Always loved this sketch. I could genuinely explain what all of those buttons were for on an old stereo - these guys needed me as their technical advisor lol
@@bigredsock1 It adjusts different parts of the frequency spectrum to alter the sound characteristics of the music. Each slider in the equaliser adjusts one part of the frequency range of the sound signal. Low frequencies (on the left side) have the effect of changing the levels of bass in the sound, whilst high frequencies on the right alter the treble. If you don't have on one your computer, it's worth thinking about - I use one called emac on my iMac. Definitely enhances the sound if you get it set up right.
@@KlimtEastwood Dolby was a noise reduction system for cassette players. Music cassettes had an inherent hissing sound - Dolby filters were designed to reduce this hiss. The hiss was not so bad on better quality cassettes. Personally I wasn't a huge fan of Dolby B as using it did remove the hiss but it also seemed to chop part of the music off as well, especially the higher frequencies (which made sense because that's where the hiss also resided). It is for this reason that it reduced the volume a bit. I only used it if the hiss was so loud as to be annoying. When recording I usually used high quality TDK cassettes and it wasn't normally necessary to use Dolby with those. Dolby B was the most common filter to be found on cassette players - C was reserved for higher-end HiFi systems and it was better as it reduced the hiss without ruining the music quite so much. There was another one called Dolby DBX and that was the best one, however it was rare to find it on 'off the shelf' cassette decks because it was mainly used in recording studios. You could get it however and I did have one cassette deck that used it, which I bought for my home recording studio.
I've often wondered why a sound system needed to equalize its graphics . When graphics are video features. . This one isn't much cop it has no bag for your head and doesn't come with any slim line salad dressing
What do all the buttons do, priceless, what does the graphic equaliser do.....equalises graphics. Same as MSN AI need to learn, try and log in their community channel for news comments, takes 5 or six hours. The answer is that MSN's computer has a switch with 0 or 1 , Billy Boy is that an on off button....Answer....No, it is used to restrict users between 0 and 1 and piss people off
One of my favourite sketches, timeless comedy which is as relevant today. An absolute classic!! 👍
Absolutely classic comedy- these two were great!!!!!!😀😄😄😄
"A very sophisticated system that lets you listen to music with the little green light on or off according to taste" 😂
This was pure gold the old days ❤
When Ray Dolby died they held a one minute noise reduction.
This needs more appreciation. Bravo!
Brilliant
You're all taking the hiss.
😂
😅
These guys saved my 80`s.

So what does a graphic equalizer actually do?

@@Wally-H Thank you for your explanation. As for your suggestion, the volume control is complicated enough for me!
@@bigredsock1 No problem, chief 😄

I'm sure that's actual footage from a product training course I attended around 1985.
the great & much missed mel smith
....... played " the real bloke " to perfection !
This is so true
I used it as a training program for sales people
First time I’ve seen this. Hilarious!
I remember seeing this sketch back in 1987
On screen image looking very much like an Aiwa system, Beautiful design
But what is the EQ button for????
Gotta hand it to good old Mic Vol
B is for button. C is for...cutton? 😂
We've not heard much from Mic Vol, recently.
He got turned down
@@nickjcresswell 🤣 That is priceless.
Nothing like equalising your graphics!!!! Why does Griff remind me of Beaker on the Muppet Show at the end 🤔😉
Makes me think of all those elaborate keyboard and guitar rigs, and drumkits some musicians insist on using.
CD-aux .....these two greats were spot-on.....cd's were not even partnof most steroes sold in the 80s lol .No one wver questioned this though 😂😂✅👌
I used to love Smth and Jones. They don't make comedy like this anymore : )
Hilarious
probably Aiwa model

Does anyone know what episode this is from and thus when it aired?
Series 3 episode 1 - 18 September 1986
@@milesfinch Thanks
No mention of the Overhead Underhangs then?.......
I'd love to know what make and model that stereo actually is. It would be great to get one now.
Ayushi XL-20 It says in the sketch 👍🏼
@@ChillToMusic87 But would be great to know what they actually used as the prop.

What is dolby B and dolby C? What is wrong with dolby A?

Am/FM
That's AM/PM !!
Surely if you had LW and MW buttons you wouldn't have AM as well.
