WASH UP! Girl Talk: Same Thing Happened

WASH UP! Girl Talk is a Sesame Workshop initiative designed to bring stigma-fighting menstrual health lessons to pre-adolescent girls in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Piloted in 2019 across 150 schools in rural Zimbabwe and now expanding to Kenya, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, WASH UP! Girl Talk provides teachers and learners with menstrual health and puberty education, helping to destigmatize the issue and keep girls in school. Sesame's WASH UP! Girl Talk ambassador is Didi, an empowered and knowledgeable character, who serves as a positive role model for girls and boys, guiding them through fun activities, animated videos, and more.

Sesame Workshop's Global Social Impact division delivers on Sesame Street's mission to help children around the globe to grow smarter, stronger and kinder. Our key areas of focus are access to early education, critical health lessons, and content targeting vulnerable and marginalized children. We develop research driven content that can be delivered through a variety of platforms including broadcast television, school distribution, and community engagement, and includes video, audio, digital and print components.
