Nine Club I love your podcast I've been skateboarding since I'm 13 and I'm 30 years old now. I can't stop watching keep up the amazing job you're doing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been watching since the first days with Roger!! All the love from New Zealand !!!
WHAT UP SHREDZ?!?!?! LOVE your content! especially the top "NINE" series.... Nine Club please take notice of this skate shop in rural Canada, because they surely take notice of you.
Stoked that Jason mentioned Trent from Cowtown and Tuan Nguen too. I skated with Tuan and Toan in Temecula the summer of ‘91 before moving to Phoenix when I met Trent, Ed, and Laura. I’ve seen quite a few rattlesnake mountain biking here. Great episode! Go Suns and Go Cardinals!
I had never heard of Jason before this episode but this has been an awesome one! I’m right at the point where they’re starting to discuss him photographing wildlife and this surprised the shit out of me. This dude has a lot of interesting shit to talk about! It’s awesome to see skateboarders who are involved in tons of other things outside of skateboarding.
Glad you enjoyed that part of it. I've been traveling my whole life for stuff, from skating to visiting my pops in Alaska or whatever so it was easy to dive right into that. I feel like the travel hurdle is something a lot of people can't get over.
You're right to educate yourself. People rightly praise the 70s dudes, even 80s dudes. But Jason and his generation, are the ones that took doing no complys, boneless, nose pickin a ledge, and made it into what it is today. I would like to say "my" generation, but I was always a few weeks/months behind california, being in England and pre Internet. Although, I'm sure there was good skater crews all over the world who pushed each other, and tried to come up with new tricks themselves. It wasn't always just, watch videos and copy. Especially in early days when footage was rare
Skateboarding must be one of the hardest sports to judge. I don't envy anyone who has that job. You must be so on point. Know every trick and watch the runs so intensely. Just watching Tampa Pro shows how hard it must be to compare skater's performing at their prime. Style and trick selections are so subjective. Love this episode!
I disagree, I think its very easy to judge, flow, use of the course, trick selection, skating switch, staying on your board while executing said tricks, hyping the crowd. That's what wins contests, yet oddly Nyjah still cleans up even though he cannot do what Yuto does, so your points do have merit, but judging there is inherently NO room for interpretation of the rules of it, so I get you.I do think Judging has a LOOOONG way to go before we stop saying skaters are getting robbed.
Get CURTIS MCCANN on the show. I remember being at Fort Miley in SF with this kid named Tim Battle who I had just met that day - he was really good. This was on a Sunday and it was quiet there, and two car loads of people with boards showed up to skate and it was Curtis, Choppy Omega, Shamil Randle, Jesse Neuhaus, Mike Manzoori, Ben Liversedge, and Tim Upson, and Mako Urab. Dorian Tucker was there too but he hurt his ankle and was doing stretches. Turned out Tim Upson knew that kid, Tim Battle from skating at the Playground park in Connecticut
I saw a sequence of him doing a crooked grind in 1992, and I tried to learn it and hyper-extended my knee. I later learned how to do them frontside, but I never liked them regs.
@@rothy13 I've bothered you about this like three times on Instagram, but it's my Jason Rothmeyer story. I had to tell it after enjoying this nine club.
I did shoot that photo! I think they said it was a wooly bat? Not sure of the species but I saw it during a night hike in Brazil on that trip I got Dengue Fever on. The rat was almost the same size as the bat and it actually flew with the damn thing in it's mouth. It was so sick.
Rented all my first skate videos. Loved the contest videos. 📼🎥📼 BBC had the slick bottoms first with the original Doze logo. They gave me one when they first put them out. A month later we got some from Toxic that said prototype on them. They were team boards. Crob should make a twin tail slick bottom next 💨💨💨 ✨✨

i was skating in all white new balance running shoes (the 501s or 301s or something, i forget the exact number) back in like 2006 and had never imagined that they (or nike) would start doing a skate line. people would bug out on it too because it wasn't something you would see anyone would do. especially back then, skateboarding was still vibey on the level that if you weren't skating in some soleteks or globes or circa/fallen or vans or something at least vaguely in the form factor of a skate shoe it was like "what are you doing" but i didn't care. it was also kind of like a challenge thing to myself, like i knew i could skate in skate shoes, so i wanted to see if i could hack it in something completely unorthodox
