  • We grabbed a friend without telling her where we were going and took a journey up to Limfjord, Jutland to go on an Oyster Safari. This is the first in a series of videos we plan to do where we take someone from one part of Denmark to a totally different part, all to experience something new together with Travelin' Young.
    We had an amazing time, you must try this for sure!

    The one with onion and Tabasco looked very good, I think I could eat one of these.
    Edit: In these Covid times, it is very good that you show some outdoor activities, maybe people/families get inspired. Well done.

      Thanks, yeah that was our idea. We took the trip while museums/etc were still closed. So it was fun to find something good we could do outside given the current situation. And it wasn't easy to do in January :).

    Eating your own harvest - how nice is that! Fresh baked bread makes oysters taste twice as good.

    Did you guys notice the switch in the danish dialect, when you reached Limfjorden? I felt a nice and homey feeling when the lady in the background in danish said: "... en dav' " instead of "... en dag" (Translated in context: some day).

    If you are a fan of oysters, you should go to 'Ho bugt' ( The bay of Ho) north of Esbjerg. The kind of oyster is actually an invasive species, so you could do nature a big favour eating their oysters. A small trick. Arrive at low tide and bring wellies and big bucket. How do I get to them? Well ,go out at low tide, and you'll literally end up walking on top of them. Watch out for the tide though. Do not pick oysters on your way out Fill your bucket as you walk back. The bucket is likely to get very heavy. There are plenty of oysters for everyone, and they are huge. Be aware that oysters should only be taken in all of the months with 'r' . January, february, march, april (not over summer) september , october , november and december. During the summer there is a risk of algiepoisining. You don't want that.

    Hey Youngs I know this suggestion is in Sweden... But in general also many ppl from Copenhagen go to Sweden.. even maybe also ppl from Jutland (I grew up northern jutland visiting Sweden alot taking the ferries there..).... but Kullen you should try visit up north of Helsingborg ... can also much on Danish side recommend Gilleleje (and a walking path up to the Nakkehoved lighthouse- maybe go there when lighthouse is open)

    If you should be into more shellfish activities/ experiences in the area of Limfjorden, I can recommend you to come by Skaldyrsfestival Mors, its the first weekend in June. And when you've been filled there, there is Jesperhus Blomsterpark + svømmehal nearby, as well as Højriis Slot ( which have murder mysteries in July if you're into that kind of stuff ) Tough I must admit it has been a while since I've been either places.

    @Travelin' Young The funny thing about you using the word Waders is that its a word of ancient Danish origin and the pronunciation this day is just like the dialect of northern Jysk around the Limfjord or wattensea that very likely is the place of the origin behind the later word Waders from the word to wade, or in danish at vade or a vade(sted) - a shallow passaga through water.

Modern english Having emerged from the dialects and vocabulary of Germanic peoples-Angles, Saxons, and Jutes - Yes Jutes as in Jyde. Not that strange as we were the only people in that time with strong viking ships dominating the shallow coast "wattensea and west coast of europe and GB.

    • @Aoderic
      @Aoderic 2 роки тому

      Yup, you would never hear a Dane calling it "Limfjord", exactly as you point out, the greatness of it demands a definite article, and so it is known as "Limfjorden"
      "the Limfjord" would have been okay since he's speaking English.
