A question to those who know the history of reggae: Is it Lee Perry who started the social reform ska, which became later the roots genre? I don't find any older social reforming reggae songs. Respect anyway.
this is an interesting question - one I wish I was more qualified to answer. I'm going to hold this thought in the investigative part of my journey from now on - I shall ask around - if there's others who might have noticed this it could be a truly crucial point.

I would say calypsonians did. They were very political from way back. Long before ska.
