In order to understand, the basics of the underlying psychology the following need to be understood.
These need to be seen in the mind as they operate, by watching in a non judgemental manner, through sathi.
A) The reinforcement principle-
This is what our lord Buddha said in explaining how the fire goes on and extinguishes when stopped adding fire wood. As long as a phenomenon, like a wave, is strengthened it persists and keeps going. This fire wood is grasping.
What rupa, Vedanta, Santa Sankara as they happen in mano kaya need to be seen and the perceptions simplified in line with teaching.
Suttas need to be studied.
Once the underlying drives weaken and stop the wave height diminishes and cease.
B) These phenomena persist by psychological grasping, upadana, and even by watching. This is seen in slit experiment, how the observation reinforces the phenomenon.
Looking to understand these abhidamma through the senses is futile as when perceived, it is too late, pamada, as they have happened and died instantly. So any thing through the senses are an illusion, a shadow. These we grasp and carry as self. Buddha said Sopaka put down this heap of excrement. This carrying, the weight, grasping what has been dead, need to be seen.
When well understood we will throw this away as the young woman threw away the carcass around the neck.
This needs to be understood by seeing in mindfulness.
C) These happen so fast and when perceived it is too late.
The Buddha said, Don't look at me, it is only my decaying body you see,as I am not here. The Buddha, the wisdom he described here, where buddha teay is, is not within thoughts, sense impressions formations and not even in conciousness.. This can only understood by understanding and seeing anitta sanna, and what sanna means. It is the illusion, like the dog saw on the water, a shadow. This needs to be understood.
What buddha described can be seen, by opening the mind to infinity ( animitta) and seeing conflict/ desire ( appanihitha)
and the emptiness of phenomena will be understood.
By just opening the mind without taking five aggregates as focus, others will be understood. Stopping slowly happens as ssid to Angulimala, I have stopped you stop, referring to Samara, the process of continuous flow of five aggregates creating worlds. Sabba loke anabhiratha sanna and all data sanna will be understood.
Letting go is the only way by understanding the suffering which is caused by grasping, is seen and others will be clear when this one thing is seen gradually ever so deeply, through sathipattana, the only path.
It’s bit hard to understand logic here, not sure if I agree, because we know there are so many people rescue dogs and cats from an animal shelters or animals that meant to be put down ( due to many reasons) and animal activists who fight for animal cruelty and some work so hard to protect sea mammals ( whales and dolphins) getting killed. So all the people who rescue them and provide a safe home Is wrong ? I think As long as you look after without getting extensively attached, I can’t see how that can effect them to born as a animal on their next life . Suppose anything for that matter , even your kids , you can do your duties and not get attached, then the logic should also apply for everything we get attached...
In the story here says “ sadu cried when his cat he looked after on his temple died , it tells me the even the sadu didn’t know true nature of of attachment. It is failure from that sadu’s side, we can’t penalise the animals for that...
