I’m starting to wonder about if I like the longer ones a bit better, even though it “feels” harder to get through them, 😂 you usually really DO get to know the characters. The Makioka Sisters was like 500 pgs?!, though, and the author chose for us not really to know some of the characters, so it isn’t always the case! 🤔
Juliet’s Daughter of the Forest is an all time favorite. I’ll have to read Wildwood Dancing (I think you told me that was your favorite?) but I just haven’t gotten there yet. Hope you are enjoying the season, Amy❣️
I loved our buddy reads last month! I'm so glad we read The Makioka Sisters together--I think it would have been challenging on my own! You're welcome! I love your thoughts on it here, and I 100% agree!
Is Juliet Marillier generally a fantasy writer. That anachronistic approach to values and causes and issues really does take me out if a story, too - not to mention that it is very very annoying. You're right! It's like there's a master list of nods you must include somewhere and so many authors are checking those boxes. I enjoyed listening to you, though.
Yes! I’ve had to pull back on certain kinds of books, because I just couldn’t handle heavy handed things against my personal convictions. However, because I read widely, it’s harder when it just a little thing here or there. 🤷🏻♀️🤔😔♥️
I definitely feel the same about fairies 😬 There's just something I don't like about them. The Warrior Bards series sounds interesting. I understand when an author has a different opinion than me, but not when they throw it in and make it out of character 😖 I've never heard of Charlotte Mary Yonge, I'll have to read some of her books! I need to read Dombey and Son again, I listened to it years ago and I can barely remember it 😁 - Mattie
Yes, it was done in an annoying, eye-rolling way. 🤣 I will probably?! finish the series as I did care enough about the characters, but I’m taking a break with it now. Glad I’m not the only one that isn’t in love with fairies. ☺️
❤ ohhh can't wait to hear more of Julie and Deerbrooke. Is it set at Christmas? I can't decide if i want to continue with Juliette Marillier after i read v Daughter of the Forest. I'll see what you think abt that trilogy you're reading now.
The opening scenes of Deerbrooke and Julie are not Christmas, but we’ll see? Did you like Daughter of the Forest, Penny? I only read that one in that series, I think?! My favorite I’ve read of hers were Wildwood Dancing and Cybele’s Secret. Fairytale-ish retellings.
I've yet to read Daughter of the Forest but I own it. I expect to get it next year at some point. I've seen a few fantasy booktubers whom I follow not like the next few in that series as well as the first one. Kate said she liked the first and is going to reread it. Oh ok abt Deerbrook. The way you said it about wanting to get to it in December made me feel like it was a winter or Christmas setting. But that might have just been me. 🤪
I have been wondering about Countess Kate- that’s good to know. I think I will try to get to the Pillars of the House next year sometime.
I think what you said about less character development in Countess Kate is why I love big books Amy- Dombey and Son being one of them!

I enjoyed Daughter of the Forest, too! Yes, Wildwood Dancing is very fairytale-like.

😌♥️📚awww! I’m so glad to have “found” you, Elizabeth, through the online book world!
@@amyofhearthridge I just now saw this! I'm so glad I found you too!!
I really want to re-read Dombey and Son. It’s one of my top favorite Dickens so far! ❤
Poor little Paul Dombey, I’m still not over him! 😭
I know 😭♥️

Yes, she is a fantasy writer, Sandra! 😄
I've quit a few authors because they threw their views in a book and I didn't agree with it. Especially, when it seems unessasary. Not a fan of that.
