after several hours, what i was able to understand from this mv and song is that: hwasa wants her lover to focus on themself because she wants them to care for themself as much as they care for her. she ignores her lover whenever they show too much concern for her because that's her way of telling them to think of themself more often instead of her. OR hwasa has kind of a 'tsundere' personality and is always rude to her lover even though she loves them. hwasa eventually gets annoyed at no matter how rude she is, they never leave her alone or get fed up with her. but in the end, we can see her lover leaving her. now one of the two things happened. either her lover misunderstood her and thought that she didn't love them anymore. or her lover realized that there were too many differences between them for them to ever be in a peaceful relationship. even though hwasa wanted them to stay, they left.

The song is about a relationship where one person neglect themselves for the sake ot the other party. Not only about lovers, but also friends and family. In MV she's talking about a guy whose only interest is her. He belittle himself and praise Hwasa, he makes her "hero and a genius" but she doesn't feel that it's true so it becames suffocating (that's why she's in a plastic wrap). She's intentionally ignoring him hoping that he will start looking at other things but in the end she is hurting too because of that. She's singing "baby you're the sky" which means that inside he's vast and limitless and he should expand his interests. She's a queen but she doesn't want a servant, she wants a relationship on an equal standing. I'm not sure about the ending tho, I think he listened to her and left in order to find his happiness but also she made her lonely. Well that doesn't mean that they broke up, they could just take a break then get together again but with more healthy mindset. So the message imo is to pursue your own happiness and stop being obsessed about the other person in order to build a healthy relationship. Not many artists highlighted this toxic part of a relationship, especially not from the perspective of the 'object' of obsession/intense affection (we probably only know Mariah Carey's Obsessed lol). The way she talks about how it suffocates and frustrates her because she realizes that she's holding HIM back from finding his own happiness (outside of loving her). I love how mamamoo take “simple” concepts and make them much bigger and complex. A Korean UA-camr talked about this in a reaction to Mamamoos windflower and talked about how most artists talk about things in a pretty 2D manner. They either talked about sadness or happiness after a break up, but mamamoo talked about both, the happiness and sadness that your fighting with after a breakup, and he mentioned he’d never really seen that before. Here I see the same thing. She talks about the complexity of a relationship where someone’s obsessed with you and you like it, but you also acknowledge it’s bad cause you’re not that great of a person and it’s hurting your partner. You don’t take pleasure in their hurt cause it hurts you as well. It’s all really deep, and the symbolism through out the song makes it a lot deeper. You can tell this MV has a lot of care and thought put into it. Hwasa didn't want to just make an MV; she wanted there to be meaning. I'd write all of the symbolism and imagery and the meanings down, but we'd be here all day, so I'm just going to talk about the things that I really liked. Keep in mind, this is all just my interpretations, so take all of these with a grain of salt. 1) Queen imagery. Obviously, it's a reference to Hwasa's nickname, "Queen Hwasa." But if you take the lyrics into consideration, it's also a reference to how her lover sees her as this untouchable idol; he puts her on a throne--a pedestal. And this, in turn, causes him to blindly go the extra mile for her. It is also a reference to how Hwasa is a strong, confident woman...but sometimes, she can be a little TOO much about it. Again, taking the lyrics in consideration, it seems like because she might get a little too big-headed sometimes about herself (hence why she calls herself a "brat") and forget that she cannot just take in a relationship (hence why she mentioned her "greed"). It's not a one-way street. 2) The lions. Again, a reference to Hwasa's other nickname, "Hwalion" ("Hwasaja"). Lions symbolize strength, power, and fierceness--things that Hwasa definitely is. But lions are also vicious, aggressive, and arrogant. Again, referring to Hwasa being a confident and strong woman, but also stubborn and prideful and sometimes allowing that to make her lose sight of how she cannot just keep taking in a relationship. 3) Plastic bags. Hoo boy...there is A LOT with this. It could represent packaged goods made by an industry (the Kpop industry, in this case) and how Hwasa and other women (and guys, too, but the MV focuses more on women)--being a part of the Kpop industry--is treated as just that. They're mass-produced objects of consumerism and materialism. Also, plastic bags can suffocate you. It could also symbolize how Hwasa finds the industry, being in the public eye, etc. all to be too suffocating sometimes. The bags could also symbolize how there is a transparent barrier between Hwasa and how the public sees her--she looks fierce, confident, and sexy...but she keeps a shield up to protect herself. It's transparent, sure, but still a shield, nonetheless. 4) The white veil. A reference to Mary (Maria) and to Hwasa's Catholic faith. I'm not too familiar with Catholicism, but from what I know and have been told by Catholics, Mary is seen by many as a symbol of feminine strength. Note how so many women are leaning on Hwasa. This is referring to how several women--and young girls--look up to Hwasa as a source of strength. After all, she challenged S. Korea's beauty standards and societal expectations of women by simply being herself and doing things her way. If that isn't strength, then I don't know what is. 5) Wheein. First of all, I knew Wheein was going to make a cameo in the MV, but NOT LIKE THAT. Anyway. As mentioned in the previous point, there are shots of people leaning on Hwasa for support and strength...but Hwasa is shown to only be leaning on Wheein. Wheein is Hwasa's support system, her rock. And if you look closely, Wheein not only lets Hwasa lean on her, she also HOLDS her. She is a source of comfort for Hwasa, as well. Her safe place, if you will. Furthermore, they are bare from the chest up and wearing light make-up. This gives a vulnerable, exposed image, and I think it's meant to symbolize how Hwasa and Wheein are able to be completely themselves with each other. When they're together, they're not Hwasa and Wheein--members of Mamamoo, celebrities, etc. They are simply Ahn Hyejin and Jung Wheein--best friends and soulmates (their words, not mine). (Real talk, though, I really enjoyed their scenes together, however brief they were. They were very tasteful, but also incredibly intimate. I almost felt like I was intruding on a private moment they were having). I'm going to be listening and watching to this MV for a long time. Hwasa deserves every good thing that comes from this song and MV because it is AMAZING. I'm so proud of our Queen.

Shim Cheong went to see the sailors who wanted to buy a girl and asked them to buy her. “I need 300 seoks of rice for my father to regain his eyesight,” Shim Cheong explained.

Finally the day came when she had to leave. “Father, today I’m going to be the Kang family’s step-daughter,” she lied to her father. “To adopt me, they will give three hundred seoks of rice to the temple. Then, you will be able to see again.”
“That’s great! I won’t be a blind man anymore!” her father said happily.
Now, Shim Cheong was on the boat with the sailors. After sailing for several days, the ship reached a deep part of the sea. Suddenly, a strong wind rose and the sea roared. So the sailors wanted Shim Cheong to jump into the roaring sea to be the sacrifice. When she woke up under the sea, she heard beautiful music. She had no idea where she was. “Am I dead or alive?” Shim Cheong said to herself.
At that moment, she heard a voice saying, “Wake up, now. This is the sea palace. The Sea King was touched by your story. He sent me to save you.”
Shim Cheong stayed at the Sea King’s palace for a few days. One day, a maid came to Shim Cheong. “The Sea King has ordered that you return to land,” she said. Shim Cheong was put into a big lotus blossom. Finally, the lotus blossom floated to the surface.
The sailors who bought Shim Cheong found the lotus blossom. It was spotted at the same place where Shim Cheong had jumped into the sea. The sailors were surprised and lifted it out of the sea to bring it to their king. When the king touched the blossom, suddenly it opened and a beautiful girl walked out. The king loved her very much and made her his queen.
As the king’s wife, Shim Cheong’s life was very happy, but she could not forget her father. One day, the king found Shim Cheong looking very sad.

after several hours, what i was able to understand from this mv and song is that:
hwasa wants her lover to focus on themself because she wants them to care for themself as much as they care for her. she ignores her lover whenever they show too much concern for her because that's her way of telling them to think of themself more often instead of her.
OR hwasa has kind of a 'tsundere' personality and is always rude to her lover even though she loves them. hwasa eventually gets annoyed at no matter how rude she is, they never leave her alone or get fed up with her.
but in the end, we can see her lover leaving her. now one of the two things happened.

The song is about a relationship where one person neglect themselves for the sake ot the other party. Not only about lovers, but also friends and family.
In MV she's talking about a guy whose only interest is her. He belittle himself and praise Hwasa, he makes her "hero and a genius" but she doesn't feel that it's true so it becames suffocating (that's why she's in a plastic wrap). She's intentionally ignoring him hoping that he will start looking at other things but in the end she is hurting too because of that.
She's singing "baby you're the sky" which means that inside he's vast and limitless and he should expand his interests.
She's a queen but she doesn't want a servant, she wants a relationship on an equal standing.
I'm not sure about the ending tho, I think he listened to her and left in order to find his happiness but also she made her lonely. Well that doesn't mean that they broke up, they could just take a break then get together again but with more healthy mindset.
So the message imo is to pursue your own happiness and stop being obsessed about the other person in order to build a healthy relationship.
I think a lot of people nowadays are like that, especially mothers, they neglect their own happiness for the sake of family, but in the end that's not making anyone happy. There's a lot of people who get's "addicted" to their partner too and when they leave they become miserable.

So she composed, wrote the lyrics, and choreographed the whole thing? Oh my god she's the real deal I swear. I've already read some analysis about the song and gosh if it isn't such a complex one! Not many artists highlighted this toxic part of a relationship, especially not from the perspective of the 'object' of obsession/intense affection (we probably only know Mariah Carey's Obsessed lol). The way she talks about how it suffocates and frustrates her because she realizes that she's holding HIM back from finding his own happiness (outside of loving her). The song really has a deep, complicated message. I love the imagery and symbolism used in the MV too, they're all so stunning! Especially that one scene where she stands above the man wearing all black, indicating that she's mourning inside despite having him wrapped around her fingers. (Also don't get me started on the WheeSa part I literally shrieked lol)

A Korean UA-camr talked about this in a reaction to Mamamoos windflower and talked about how most artists talk about things in a pretty 2D manner. They either talked about sadness or happiness after a break up, but mamamoo talked about both, the happiness and sadness that your fighting with after a breakup, and he mentioned he’d never really seen that before. Here I see the same thing. She talks about the complexity of a relationship where someone’s obsessed with you and you like it, but you also acknowledge it’s bad cause you’re not that great of a person and it’s hurting your partner. You don’t take pleasure in their hurt cause it hurts you as well. It’s all really deep, and the symbolism through out the song makes it a lot deeper. ur totally right! but I think if we look at the lyrics, it feels like that the boy has loved someone before but they were sensitive about him hanging with girls so he changed and now he doesn't even look at other girls "you know only me" and "look around once in a while". So she is calling him a twit because he is very loyal and a fool for loving her so much and that she is the one cheating or even joking around with other guys and feels bad for him.
To sum up i think in the ending they are both just together in the last and i think it's just a cute song with no breakups and all

i know why Hwasa is singing about Shim Cheong in this song. It's about how a certain person in life doesn't know that someone at least needs they're own space once in a life time. It's like they're BLIND of not knowing what Hwasa is going thru in life. That explains the story of Shim Cheong, which was a classic Korean novel back in the day. Shim Cheong sacrificed her own life to give her dad's eyesight back. Because her dad was BLIND all this time. And that also explains why people in Hwasa's life are blind and not knowing what she actually goes thru in life.

if you see the interview hwasa had about her solo, even though it can be easily interpreted as the boyfriend/love being overly obsessive or clingy, she actually states that’s not exactly the case. she said it’s more or so that the girlfriend is overly apathetic about their relationship and considered everything he did as “clingy”. but when he leaves, she finally realizes she was the fool/twit.

You can tell this MV has a lot of care and thought put into it. Hwasa didn't want to just make an MV; she wanted there to be meaning. I'd write all of the symbolism and imagery and the meanings down, but we'd be here all day, so I'm just going to talk about the things that I really liked. Keep in mind, this is all just my interpretations, so take all of these with a grain of salt.
1) Queen imagery. Obviously, it's a reference to Hwasa's nickname, "Queen Hwasa." But if you take the lyrics into consideration, it's also a reference to how her lover sees her as this untouchable idol; he puts her on a throne--a pedestal. And this, in turn, causes him to blindly go the extra mile for her. It is also a reference to how Hwasa is a strong, confident woman...but sometimes, she can be a little TOO much about it. Again, taking the lyrics in consideration, it seems like because she might get a little too big-headed sometimes about herself (hence why she calls herself a "brat") and forget that she cannot just take in a relationship (hence why she mentioned her "greed"). It's not a one-way street.
2) The lions. Again, a reference to Hwasa's other nickname, "Hwalion" ("Hwasaja"). Lions symbolize strength, power, and fierceness--things that Hwasa definitely is. But lions are also vicious, aggressive, and arrogant. Again, referring to Hwasa being a confident and strong woman, but also stubborn and prideful and sometimes allowing that to make her lose sight of how she cannot just keep taking in a relationship.
3) Plastic bags. Hoo boy...there is A LOT with this. It could represent packaged goods made by an industry (the Kpop industry, in this case) and how Hwasa and other women (and guys, too, but the MV focuses more on women)--being a part of the Kpop industry--is treated as just that. They're mass-produced objects of consumerism and materialism. Also, plastic bags can suffocate you. It could also symbolize how Hwasa finds the industry, being in the public eye, etc. all to be too suffocating sometimes. The bags could also symbolize how there is a transparent barrier between Hwasa and how the public sees her--she looks fierce, confident, and sexy...but she keeps a shield up to protect herself. It's transparent, sure, but still a shield, nonetheless.
4) The white veil. A reference to Mary (Maria) and to Hwasa's Catholic faith. I'm not too familiar with Catholicism, but from what I know and have been told by Catholics, Mary is seen by many as a symbol of feminine strength. Note how so many women are leaning on Hwasa. This is referring to how several women--and young girls--look up to Hwasa as a source of strength. After all, she challenged S. Korea's beauty standards and societal expectations of women by simply being herself and doing things her way. If that isn't strength, then I don't know what is.
5) Wheein. First of all, I knew Wheein was going to make a cameo in the MV, but NOT LIKE THAT. Anyway. As mentioned in the previous point, there are shots of people leaning on Hwasa for support and strength...but Hwasa is shown to only be leaning on Wheein. Wheein is Hwasa's support system, her rock. And if you look closely, Wheein not only lets Hwasa lean on her, she also HOLDS her. She is a source of comfort for Hwasa, as well. Her safe place, if you will. Furthermore, they are bare from the chest up and wearing light make-up. This gives a vulnerable, exposed image, and I think it's meant to symbolize how Hwasa and Wheein are able to be completely themselves with each other. When they're together, they're not Hwasa and Wheein--members of Mamamoo, celebrities, etc. They are simply Ahn Hyejin and Jung Wheein--best friends and soulmates (their words, not mine). (Real talk, though, I really enjoyed their scenes together, however brief they were. They were very tasteful, but also incredibly intimate. I almost felt like I was intruding on a private moment they were having).
I'm going to be listening and watching to this MV for a long time. Hwasa deserves every good thing that comes from this song and MV because it is AMAZING. I'm so proud of our Queen.
