    I owned previous generation of Rogue since 2015 , run for more than 110,000 miles. Now is still working fine. So far so good! My friend owned a Toyota Camry in 2014, run for 50,000 miles then the suspension damaged. So I believe driver more or less is a big factor to my opinion. I'll still get the new Rouge for sure! 💪

    Great review, the couple comparisons are great as they give more insight. To be honest, the Rogue seems to be the better buy here. A quieter, more refined ride, better tech, more comfort and amenities and it has a larger interior. These aren't meant to be speed demons. These are family vehicles meant for commuting to drop the kids to school, go to work and pick up groceries. The Rogue just seems to be the better vehicle for that (and you get more bang for your buck). Nissan is using a more refined CVT in this, so the reliability will be much better. In the future, it would be nice if they offered the VCT engine as an option for the Rogue.

    I've owned 2 Nissan and the issues with transmission and suspension were present in both cars. It's not surprising when you mention that Nissan has CVT problem, they are famous for that.

    • @IKhanNot
      @IKhanNot 3 роки тому +2

      Yeah the CVT is a bit of a weak spot for many customers. Funny enough we have a 2008 Sentra with 245,000kms and a 2018 Kicks and both transmissions have been great. The one key thing is changing the fluid every 50,000kms and each time I drained the fluid it was black and smelled burnt. Hopefully they stay running good as a replacement unit is $5,000.

    Great, thorough review!!
    I love my Rogue Platinum. 5 months in there is nothing I don't like about it. I traded in my 2012 Rogue SV to buy it. Got a decent value on that trade too.
    And the panoramic roof? I never open it either. But simply with the sunshade open it is a completely different driving experience. I could not be happier. But I have been a Nissan/Infinti owner my entire life.

    The RAV4's engine noise is horrendous! I've never hear a 4 cylinder engine make that much noise. I know that Toyota has a great, and well deserved, reputation for quality, but they really seem to not have the consumer in mind with this engine.

    • @jillthompson6110
      @jillthompson6110 3 роки тому +8

      I wouldn't necessarily equate "quality" with "reliability". Toyota sells cars that have platforms that aren't really updated significantly. Toyota is a very conservative company that believes in incremental improvements on its decades-old platforms. They constantly try to perfect their old technology, but they are much more reluctant to introduce new changes that can improve the driving dynamics that could hurt their reliability scores. The result is that Toyota cars are very reliable, but the cars drive like the cars of 20 years ago. Their cars are very reliable because there are few new technologies that could break.

  • @ShafinRehman
    @ShafinRehman 3 роки тому +4

    The RAV4 drives like it's a decade old, and feels kinda cheap overall. It'll probably last longer, but it definitely isn't that enjoyable to drive or own. The Rouge seems really nice, especially inside, but I still have to question that CVT.
    Really hard toss up. I'd wait to see how the Rouge fares reliability wise in a few years.

      George, I agree - I never open it, But the driving experience with just the sunshade open is amazing. It's hard to explain if you have not experienced it, but it
      is one of my favorite interior features of the vehicle. One in a list of many.

    Brilliant comparison that goes over the pros and cons of each car thoroughly and fairly. For me, the ideal choice would be a combination of the RAV4's exterior/reliability and the Rogue's interior/refinement but since there is no such a car, I'd pick the RAV4. Toyota has obviously chosen to invest into the engineering of the car at the expense of refinement, which is why the RAV4 has more horsepower and is using a conventional auto yet gets better fuel economy than the Rogue which has a less powerful engine and a CVT. I'd much sooner opt for a well-engineered car that will last forever, even if it's a bit noisy, rather than a more refined car that will probably need a new transmission before it hits 60k miles!

  • @A3A4Tom
    @A3A4Tom 3 роки тому +7

    Rogue is miles ahead of the RAV4. RAV4 feels like its from a different vintage compares to its rivals, especially CX-5 and Tucson. Even though its a safe choice, Toyota needs to do a lot more to move the refresh version forward next year.

    Great to see you guys again. The HABS beat the Make Beliefs and we're beating Winnipeg. Plus the weather is absolutely beautiful. And Andrea that dress is killing it! Not a fan of the CVT. But it looks like they've finally fixed the issues of the CVT and upgraded the Roque and I like the new design. I'm not a fan of the boxy look of the new Rav 4, I prefer the older one. My daughter and son-in-law have the older Rav 4 hybrid just a year before the newer model. I do like the design of the new Rogue. The Rogue interior is quite nice so much so that it's surprising how high end it really is now.

    Great and balanced review... nice to see a couple doing a review, unique and entertaining. Apart from perceived reliability, Toyota has invested heavily in their brand reputation (pick up any marketing textbook and you'll see). Nissan makes a more trendy product that could be just as reliable, but their corporate allegiances have betrayed their success (e.g. Nissan's investment in JATCO). That being said, it looks as though Nissan is breaking out of that old mold, hence the ZF 9-speed for the Pathfinder. Based on this comparison, I would personally choose the Rogue.

    For the price of the Rogue Platinum model, i can buy a used Lexus RX350 - that's a luxury. Toyota sells that's a fact, no matter how much Nissan throw luxury into the Rogue. There is no comparison. Even Mazda does not have CVT in the lineup. I dont know the cost difference between a CVT and an 8 Speed Auto, based on fuel econ, they r both similar on paper. I am not sure why Nissan so stubbornly sticking with this garbage CVT while they can just simply buy the 8 speed or even 9 speed from ZF if they have problems producing a reliable transmission. When factoring in depreciation and ease of selling the car post ownership, Rav always sells faster and command way higher resale value. Buying a Nissan is like throwing money down the toilet. I "may" buy a Rogue with the Rav 4 engine/8 speed auto/torque vectoring awd.
