I had something similar happen a few years ago during the Patriots-Falcons Super Bowl. A generator went out in the second quarter and about 4-5 towns/cities were completely blacked out. We (a few friends) were in a bar and never have I seen so many people getting out emergency chargers (ones with built in batteries or gears you wind), downloading Fox Sports app, and the bartenders start writing down a can tally to keep some calculations on tabs.
It came back on just before the Pats took the lead. The bar was trying to prevent people from leaving and skipping the bill. Generally everyone was well behaved and there was no snow and we had cell phones so no where near as bad as this.

Ironically, the weather for Super Bowl XLVIII in The Meadowlands was excellent with it being 49 degrees at kickoff, warmer than many of the traditional Super Bowl sites. Of course, the temps dropped right after the game with a snowstorm by the next morning.

Something very similar happened in East Central Illinois during the 1998 NFC championship game between the Falcons and Vikings. WCCU 27 fox affiliate was out all day. I remember trying and trying to call the station, but getting a busy signal each time. Cable or antenna, we couldn't watch. A buddy of mine had "that new" satellite system called Directv, and since they couldn't broadcast local stations at that time, they would broadcast the national feeds of network programming. So quite a few of us ran over to his house and caught the second half. Would love to see you do a video on that, if you could find any info on it

Here's my question: why in the world would the program director and/or the operations manager of that radio station make the decision to air the Super Bowl knowing there's at least a 50-50 chance of the game not ending before they are legally required to sign-off for the broadcast day? As a former program director of a radio station, I would have never made that decision on a local level. If there's a chance you have to dump out before the game is over, you go with alternate programming. CBS Radio had the rights to the Super Bowl that year, so we can assume this was a CBS Radio affiliate station. I hope that the decision to air it was one that was made by New York and the station had no choice.

I believe this was the last Super Bowl broadcasted by Curt Gowdy, ( I never spelled his name correctly) and the last time the game was played at 4pm. Ok....number one Lewiston ID is down in a valley. About 745 ft above sea level. Right before you come to it, on the north side of town, there is a canyon cliff (Lewiston Hill). You have to drive up that hill to get to Pullman on US 95 and it is called Lewiston grade. The top of that hill is 2700 ft above sea level making the drop 2000 ft from top to bottom. Lewiston RARELY gets that kind of winter weather. So it is Clearwater's fault. Second KLEW is NOT a NBC affiliate, it has always been a CBS affiliate. Since they are the only station in town, they would show special programming (like the Super Bowl) from other networks. (Fun fact - KLEW was once owned by Walt Disney's wife.)

How I cackled at “this is the day the Lord has made.” You had me going before that. There was, however, a dispute at the time over whether Super Bowl XIII was really better than X. NFL Films immediately declared X “the best ever,” but it was a low bar. XIII was 35-17 for a few minutes, but was very close most of the time, and I would give it a slight edge over X-but it’s close and many disagree.

This is very similar to what happened in 1990 with the World Cup Final between Germany & Argentina in Prince George & all of northern British Columbia. Unlike in the US where the World Cup was only available on cable via TNT (yes TNT did cover the World Cup in 1990 in one of the worst covered World Cups in US history, mainly because they inserted commercials in the middle of the game) the World Cup was on over the air CBC in Canada. For the majority of Canada there were no issues with the broadcast. However in northern BC & Prince George just before the match kicked off at noon, the power went out due to rolling blackouts. This was because the BC Power Authority (now Hydro BC) had a policy at the time stating if the temperature went above 80 degrees, rolling blackouts would occur in order not to over-strain the power grid. The temperature at the time was 81 degrees & was expected to reach 84 as the high so the earliest the power could come back on was at 6:00 well after the match concluded. Because of this, people had to drive down to Williams Lake 146 miles away if they wanted to watch the match. However unlike this Super Bowl, the people of Prince George & northern BC did not miss much from that year's World Cup Final as it was easily the worst World Cup Final of all time as the match became a foul filled affair & Germany won 1-0 on a penalty kick late in the match.

As someone who’s seen (almost) every Superbowl Superbowl 10 is the first one I would classify as good. The Steel curtain was something else. For context I’m in my mid 20s. The first SB I watched live was Colts/Bears. The only only interesting things about the early SBs are the weird stuff, like they originally had 2 distinctly different footballs depending on what team was on offense, the goal posts being in the wrong place, and the amount of things that would draw a flag in today’s game. My goodness the horse collar tackles are everywhere.

As someone who works in the cable industry - I knew full well the people weren't going to be understanding. I get screamed at any time a channel has a technical problem, even though (as someone who works for the cable company) we can't do ANYTHING if we're not getting a feed from the network. People will literally call and say things like, "This is the only channel I watch!"
Well lady - you get over 400 channels. Find something else.

Do you also bear the brunt of it when a local channel gets dropped during contract negotiations? I imagine both sides catch hell when that happens.
