CDDA has no chance due to being open source and consoles are strictly closed source Even if some studio wanted to get charitable idk how legal it would be Unlike PC, you can't just up and make a game for consoles. The dev kit alone is pretty expensive and getting permissions to release the games is another matter entirely
20h in and am now going as fast as PC players in my controls, it feels good, especially compared to other console colony builders/RTS Cannot find a complaint yet, it’s vanilla Rimworld like I’ve been hoping for for years
This new ui does look better but not sure how well it would scale with mods. Speaking of mods, with the lack of (what I think should be in the vanilla game) mods like: Expanded work orders, minimap, clean up room, tainted rename, better trading screen, RimHud, numbers mod, colonist manager, etc. I'm not sure if I'd want to pick it up on consoles given how much quality of life improvements they bring to the table.

@@licitdeviant317 same. But that's the challenge. I understand quality of life mods but some are a gray area. The gameplay is a strategic challenge until you understand the mechanics. I hate losing pawns and have save scummed one playthrough since the start of me playing.
In answer to one of your questions "why buy this?" - I'm a husband and dad in my mid 30s with a relatively normal / decent job and mortgage. I own a PS4 but have been wanting to play this game a while (mainly because of you and Spiff), but I'm not going to spend 000's on a gaming PC. I bought Royalty pack for day 1, it's hard to find games like this on console where you can pickup and continue a engaging sandbox story (rest mode on console is great for when you get a spare 30mins / hour). Btw - you and Spiff make the best content! Keep it up!
Bruh, my PC from 2007 runs Rimworld. People look at PC and assume they have to get the latest part even tho it won't reach 100% usage within the next 5 years since games are made for cheaper hardware. Hell, the PS5 uses a dual core, that's the kind of part that was used in 2004, you don't need the ultimate PC to play games A usable GPU costs like 80USD and a good one costs 170USD, and that is probably the most expensive part you'll buy There is nothing wrong with playing on console, but don't make stuff up
@@budlikycz2445 Samuel Streamer has some top notch stuff too, very carefully crafted mod packs and he sticks to the characters to make the stories more believable. Also his commentary is funny overall
@@rompevuevitos222 going to check him right now. Pete does mostly Vanilla with a lot of roleplay for the created characters. Most fun combo i found is tribal, blood court(so leadership is settled trough fights to the death) and blind. Just a pack of berserk ooga boogas that only stop to worship the tree
I just got my Steam Deck so its amazing to see how well this game has transitioned into console controls. Plus having the track pad and touch screen is amazing. Gonna throw this on as I play myself!
Extra for perspective Freezers are set around usually -10 Refrigerators are usually between 2 and 6 with 4 being the ideal The hottest ever temperatures measured on earth are usually 5X (in the fifties) Room temperature is actually 21~22 Bodytemperature is 37
Even though I have Rimworld on PC, I'll probably be picking this up day one. Since I work from home, I truly don't want to play games where I spend 8-10 hours a day working at. So if there is a decent console port I will jump to that to get my fix while I chill on the couch.
If your PC is not far from the living room, you can just hook it up there and increase the UI scale in the game settings Altho it depends on layout of your home and you will probably need a wireless keyboard and mouse
8:47 Having said that, since you're able to access your viewer metrics, you could probably find out exactly where your viewers are from. I'd be intrigued to know if you do have a larger Celsius viewerbase than Fahrenheit, honestly.
I picked this up yesterday, for Xbox, based solely on your video (and your previous PC videos) and I've already put 12 or so hours into it. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with future updates. Fingers crossed for mod support.
Unlikely, first the devs must ask Sony to provide a system for it since accessing the file system is a big no-no for manufacturers Then devs have to communicate with modders for permission unless they want outrage from the playerbase(not all modders will be happy with their mods being ported into a closed system where they don't have control over the mod itself) Then they have to select which mods to allow, since some are "too powerful" for a console, not in terms of performance, but in terms of how much they can manipulate the game(mods can even access the file system so any which does is out of the window)
@@rompevuevitos222 that means if by some godly luck console edition get mods most of them will not be in the game because they acess the files, is that right?
Speaking of inexpensive college food 1:40:45 Tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich is a very good combo if you have acess to a hotplate or stove top/range.
Honestly Dan, it's just down to either ignorance or elitism at this point. I've heard so many versions of 'this game wont translate to console' over the years, but it's such an outdated idea. Heard it about strategy games, yet we have Nobunagas ambition, xcom, ROTK, grand ages medieval, civilization, stellaris, crusader kings, etc. Heard it about MMOs, yet we have FFOnline, Elder Scrolls, Conan etc. Heard it about complicated military sims/shooters like DayZ and Hell let Loose. @@Romanplaystation couldnt agree more, the worst of it is the folks that have said in the past its impossible have been purely pc gamers, almost like they just dont want these games to branch out and be part of consoles, i personally use both, i do prefer my pc but i cant take that that anywhere so i think its great to be able to play most games on either platform
@@Dan63-w7n Yeah, I find it strange on two levels: 1- Surely if you love something, you want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy it. That's the way I feel whenever PC gamers get to finally play a port of a previously Playstation exclusive title. And 2- Surely you want the devs of your favourite games to make more money, so that they are more likely to support their current games, and develop more in the future. 🤷♂️
I'm impressed that the UI is only as limited as it is. Translating Rimworld's very PC-focused interface to something not only controller-friendly, but also legible from couch-sitting distance is genuinely remarkable. Personally, from an aesthetic standpoint, I'm not a big fan of the console-edition menus. They look very much like something Microsoft would have used back in Windows 8. I do, however, appreciate the use of icons like the thermometer and the weather graphics in the bottom right. It's more immediately identifiable than the several lines of white text with no real visual hierarchy we get on PC. I hope the PC version takes a little bit of influence from the Console Edition's UI.
Double Eleven did a great job with the console port, they also did amazingly with the Prison Architect console port. AA did you ever try Prison Architect? I think that would be right up your alley.

You can absolutely port from pc to console but most of the time a bad job is done. The surprise isn't that it was done, it's that effort was clearly shown to have been put in.
@@bobowon5450 Thing is, it's difficult to translate mouse and keyboard controls to a controller What should be immediately accessible? what should be behind a menu? Where do you even place the UI elements? And with indie games you tend to have another issue: getting the dev tools Just the dev kit is expensive enough, but you also need to reach an agreement with the console manufacturer and pay a fee to even get the game in the store, which is why most indie studios hire external studios that already have deals in place (like Re-logic did for Terraria) So you end up with an external studio that never touched the game before, doing a task that is hard enough on it's own on a limited time frame and with a contract with a big company like Sony looming over you. Porting a game to consoles has so many obstacles that it is a miracle when it even happens
Lovely to see your coverage on this. I always wanted to play Rimworld but didn't have a PC (when I did have one I would spend hours playing Dwarf Fortress) and actually got into your channel by vicariously enjoying the game through your videos. I got the console edition on launch and I feel it's really good experience. I've loved the stories it's generated, the fun I've had managing an increasingly chaotic colony and the ease at which I am able to play with a Ps5 controller. I've found a few bugs (eg prisoner recruitment) and there are some UI tweaks (no room descriptions) that are needed but these have already been identified for the upcoming patch. I've played a one colony for a dozen hours and have a lot of stuff amased on a large (250x250) map and I've not noticed any slow down or crashes.... so far at least. I love that Royalty came on launch, I can't wait for ideology to be included.

This is interesting, I'll be interested to see how this does, its an interesting market to market this interesting game to. You know? The way the community responds to this will be interesting to me. Also I wonder how many people who buy this for console already own it on pc
The only game I've bought twice (on PC then console, in that order) was Stardew Valley. I don't think RimWorld is meant to be played on consoles. It's just not that type of game, IMO.
I bought Rimworld on PC, then Console. I really liked it on PC, but I like it even more on console. It just feels much better to play. I feel like Rimworld is almost meant for condone. Sure there are no mods but tbf I didn’t even play with mods on PC personally.
Holy shit 32 minutes? I’ve never been this early before! I won’t lie though I don’t think I could play vanilla anymore 😅 I play on a 2009 MacBook and have a LOT of mod but I got tired of all the lag so I took out all but 5 mods (prepare careful, map preview, rocketman, babies and HugsLib) then removed PC and MP once I had my colony BUT OH MY GOD THE CORNERS if there’s one thing that annoys me most is that you can reach corners. So as I need them I’m slowly adding some mods back XD
My dwarf fortress/ rimworld laptop just died recently and im heartbroken at the loss of my dwarves and colonies. this is kinda perfect timing I need something to do 😭🤣. My biggest issue is that I'm so used to mods that it'll be weird to go back to base rimworld 😅.
With how much Rimworld I’ve played on PC years ago, and how many different series I’ve watched here on YT over the years, you’d think I’d have gotten the news that this was in development and released 2 months ago. Like others said, fastest/easiest $40 I’ve ever spent.
The control and UI stuff was interesting, but... Is the AI slightly more... Self-unalive oriented than usual? There were quite a few funny moments, as there tend to be in Rimworld, but Adam trying to have a party in a cave with giant man eating bugs kinda stole the show for me. Everyone just mindlessly following him to their gruesome deaths made me choke on laughter.
"Adam is throwing a party!' ... What the hell Adam!?" I just keep playing that moment over again. God that makes great comedic timing. Lord that whole scenario needs to be clipped. Absolute gold.
One problem i consistently face is my doctor's flat out refusing to tend even if they have no other priorities even when I tell them to tend without meds help ;-; It's not a zoning issue either idk anymore
Stopped playing Rimworld a few months after you cause my mods were acting up, i bought skyrim for switch to force myself to play vanilla and was so nice so I might just purchase this too as to not impulsively add mods.
They could probably allow mods, after all, the DLCs are loaded with the modding system Thing is convincing Sony to support it which is unlikely, they REALLY do not like user made content

Bought this , and loving it , because of this video. Plus discovered you the articulate A.A . Whom I now watch.
Wow. It looks better than I could ever imagine console Rimworld would be.
Thanks for the video! I just saw this for sale on Xbox and I was considering buying it but I wanted to see someone play it first. Even better is that I got to watch you play it.

CDDA has no chance due to being open source and consoles are strictly closed source

Unlike PC, you can't just up and make a game for consoles. The dev kit alone is pretty expensive and getting permissions to release the games is another matter entirely

This new ui does look better but not sure how well it would scale with mods. Speaking of mods, with the lack of (what I think should be in the vanilla game) mods like:
Expanded work orders, minimap, clean up room, tainted rename, better trading screen, RimHud, numbers mod, colonist manager, etc.
I'm not sure if I'd want to pick it up on consoles given how much quality of life improvements they bring to the table.
Thats a problem cities skylines has. None of the QoL mods that make the game REALLY what it is.
Remember the first time playing without mods?
@@unorubbertoe indeed. First 3 campaigns were mod less. I remember them being miserable because of all the micro management, the more I played till I gave up and moved on.

Hell, the PS5 uses a dual core, that's the kind of part that was used in 2004, you don't need the ultimate PC to play games
A usable GPU costs like 80USD and a good one costs 170USD, and that is probably the most expensive part you'll buy
There is nothing wrong with playing on console, but don't make stuff up
Try RimWorld series by Pete Complete if you wanna see best content about this game.

After watching you play rimworld for so long as soon as it was available for pre order I got the game and when I could play it I loved it so much
Better on PC, but some people can't afford it. More money for Rimworld developers never hurt anyone.
I'm not going to lie I kind of like the interface design, very streamlined.
Even though I have Rimworld on PC, I'll probably be picking this up day one. Since I work from home, I truly don't want to play games where I spend 8-10 hours a day working at. So if there is a decent console port I will jump to that to get my fix while I chill on the couch.

I picked this up yesterday, for Xbox, based solely on your video (and your previous PC videos) and I've already put 12 or so hours into it. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with future updates. Fingers crossed for mod support.
Unlikely, first the devs must ask Sony to provide a system for it since accessing the file system is a big no-no for manufacturers
Then devs have to communicate with modders for permission unless they want outrage from the playerbase(not all modders will be happy with their mods being ported into a closed system where they don't have control over the mod itself)
Then they have to select which mods to allow, since some are "too powerful" for a console, not in terms of performance, but in terms of how much they can manipulate the game(mods can even access the file system so any which does is out of the window)
@@rompevuevitos222 that means if by some godly luck console edition get mods most of them will not be in the game because they acess the files, is that right?

Honestly Dan, it's just down to either ignorance or elitism at this point. I've heard so many versions of 'this game wont translate to console' over the years, but it's such an outdated idea. Heard it about strategy games, yet we have Nobunagas ambition, xcom, ROTK, grand ages medieval, civilization, stellaris, crusader kings, etc. Heard it about MMOs, yet we have FFOnline, Elder Scrolls, Conan etc. Heard it about complicated military sims/shooters like DayZ and Hell let Loose. @@Dan63-w7n Yeah, I find it strange on two levels: 1- Surely if you love something, you want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy it. And 2- Surely you want the devs of your favourite games to make more money, so that they are more likely to support their current games, and develop more in the future.

I have wanted to play rimworld for well over a year but don't own a PC so I was so excited when it finally came out on console

Stop being suprised that PC games are easily ported to console. Honestly, it's just down to either ignorance or elitism at this point. I've heard so many versions of 'this game wont translate to console' over the years, but it's such an outdated idea.
Heard it about strategy games, yet we have Nobunagas ambition, xcom, ROTK, grand ages medieval, city skylines, civilization, stellaris, crusader kings, etc. Heard it about MMOs, yet we have FFOnline, Elder Scrolls, Conan etc. Heard it about complicated military sims/shooters like DayZ and Hell let Loose. I mean, it's definitively unoptimal, but it obviously can be done (does the PS4 have Mouse support? i know the PS2 did but i haven't had a Sony console since)
People who say otherwise are indeed just elitist or ignorant
@@rompevuevitos222 Some games have mouse and keyboard support. Depends on whether the dev implements them though. I'm sure there is a website that lists them all, but only ones I know for sure are DayZ, and Final Fantasy Online, and maybe Elite, maybeeeeee, I cant remember, lol.
@@Romanplaystation cities skylines has full kb+m support but dont know how good it is, i get way too stressed with it on my lap on the sofa, using mouse on the sofa arm feels so awkward
You can absolutely port from pc to console but most of the time a bad job is done. The surprise isn't that it was done, it's that effort was clearly shown to have been put in.
@@bobowon5450 Thing is, it's difficult to translate mouse and keyboard controls to a controller
What should be immediately accessible? what should be behind a menu? Where do you even place the UI elements?
And with indie games you tend to have another issue: getting the dev tools
Just the dev kit is expensive enough, but you also need to reach an agreement with the console manufacturer and pay a fee to even get the game in the store, which is why most indie studios hire external studios that already have deals in place (like Re-logic did for Terraria)
So you end up with an external studio that never touched the game before, doing a task that is hard enough on it's own on a limited time frame and with a contract with a big company like Sony looming over you.

The majority of my Rimworld play has been on a Switch Pro controller from the couch (~200 hours). With Steam, many things are possible!
