Great instructions. I found the parts a smidge cheaper on Amazon, but never would have known for sure they were right without you video/website. You earned my business and deserve others.
Now, for the next poor schmuck that tries to fix his washing machine, some warnings:
1. The dude in this video is deceptively strong, what he does with ease, you’ll likely grunt doing. If he grunts, you’ll pant.
2. Add a wire brush to your tools list, you’ll need it for corrosion.
3. Even with the rust buster, I failed to get the spanned wrench to bust. So don’t lose heart, I’ll be right there in front of you in line at Lowe’s with a new washing machine.
Greetings from a shmuck that will tray this in 2 days
I would recommend cleaning the transmission shaft prior to installing the new tub seal.
I have news for you if you are doing this job. i ordered a brand new plastic tub and seal both GE parts ,not copy cat parts. the seal does not fit into the tub. it is 1mm larger in diameter. you can push it into place ( very difficult) but then it pops itself right out of the tub. it will leak. I finally got the seal to seat, put the machine back together and it leaked ruining my brand new transmission. when i opened the machine back up the seal had popped up again letting water leak down the transmission shaft. that is when i started taking measurements and asking why this happened. I ending up using sandpaper and working the edge of the seal until it was about .75mm less in diameter. the seal then fit into the cavity. i permatexed the seal in place and let it sit overnight. it did not pop out. i tried 3 different brand new GE seals and every one popped out. if you try and permatex the seal in without decreasing its diameter, it will pop itself out. i know, i tried. I dont know what is going on at GE but the tolerances of the seal and tub do not match and you will not be successful in the replacement without making modifications. this info as of Jan 2024. if your experience has been different, and you are using current parts, please comment.
Thank you for the informative video. I took off the nut w the spanner wrench, and the tub isn't lifting out. it's stuck. Any advice? Thanks
What is your model number and we can look into this for you.
i'm sure original poster is past it after 9 months, but i used a pick and cleaned between the transmission shaft and tub hub mounting base - was filled with mineral buildup, basically gluing them together. clearing that, then penetrating oil and a few whacks and it came loose. just don't be like me a be too aggressive with the split ring on the next steps, i broke it.
corrosion is a b

HELP is there a video for a GE Spacesaver washer tub seal???
We are always working on more videos but at this time we do not have one for this. You can post your model number and problem on our repair forum and the techs will help you out!
I can't push my hub washer all the way down to the tub seal. It can only sit on a shoulder at the bottom of the shaft. Then there will be small cap between the tub seal and the hub washer. How do I fix this problem ?
What is the model number of your washer?
What size spanner wrench? Is it 1 11/16?
This part is model number specific and in order to make sure we find you the correct part we would have to have your model number.
I need the smaller, super seal
What is its name ???
The inner tub on mine will not lift out. It doesn't look like this one. The inner tub is metal, and it won't lift out.
