Well I used to have photography as a hobby and have made many great photos at concerts with my Nikon camera, but nothing beats the actual experience.
Mobile phones are far worse of a distraction than DSLR cameras; you keep staring at that stupid screen to see if you're continuously recording everything well enough. With a real camera it's just moments that you have that thing in your face.
