After rewatching Halo Legends again, I've decided that perhaps I treated The Duel too harshly. The watercolor DOES make it hard to see what's going on at times but other than that I think it's amazing. If I could redo my Halo Legends episodes video i'd probably place it above odd one out but below origins 1. Homecoming is staying where it is though. Sorry lol
The origins 2 I believe is Canon. The humans fought the flood back when the forerunners were around and the elites and the humans did work together against the flood at one point
Also the odsts hate Spartans mainly because when the Spartans were younger they wanted to test the cqc capabilities and they sent in 3 odsts to fight 1 spartan. I believe 1 died and 2 were forced to retire from their injuries.
@@MemeLordCthulhu I mean both are amazing but the whole comment is essentially what you said, once you remember or watch prototype, babysitter dosen't sit as high
Prototype was actually what got me into Halo in the first place. Warner Bros. uploaded every short individually on UA-cam a while back, and Prototype just so happened to show up in my recommended tab one day, despite me not really being a Halo fan. I gave it a chance, loved it, and my experience with that led me to hunt down a copy of Halo: Combat Evolved after getting my friend's OG Xbox.
@@ZeOHKay Halo 2 is a lot of fun and a long game to finish. I recommend ODST after you leave New Mombasa in Halo 2 if you want to keep things in chronological order and then finish halo 2. Games in order Halo Wars, Reach, Halo:CE & Fireteam Raven, Halo 2 (until New Mombasa is done), Halo ODST, The rest of Halo 2 & the first part of Spartan Strike, Halo 3, Spartan Assault, Halo 4, second part of Spartan Strike, Halo 5 & Halo Wars 2.
I would have put The Duel at number 3 instead of Origins I. Origins I is excellent, but I don't feel a need to rewatch it like I do with The Duel. I like Homecoming well enough, but he's right that the action half is meh. And while the backstory half is really good, it was never going to be able to deliver the same emotional suckerpunch that Prototype and Babysitter do while only having half of the episode trying to.
I actually really love the art style and storytelling of The Duel. Idk what's wrong with this dude..he also doesn't know shit about Halo lore apparently. Origins II at the end was talking about Halo 3 events in which the Covenant did assist the humans. I don't think it should've been judged so harshly.
If I’m remembering this correctly, I think Odd One Out was supposed to represent how we see ourselves as master chief, the “greatest warrior of all time” trope is a dead giveaway lmao.
Rumor has it, 133-7 is the motivation behind the say "Spartans never die, they're simlpy MIA"... The guy's been missing so many times, and always, always eventually found his way home ! Somehow never breaching Cole protocole.
Spartan-II - Sierra Company ID#1337 S-1337 for short This story is entirely non-canon The Spartan II program selected 300 children throughout the colonies, 150 were approved for budget, this number was further shortened to only 75 candidates due to even more budget restrictions. Only 33 of those Spartan candidates survived augmentation in a combat ready state, and the others were either severely maimed or outright killed by the procedure. The absolute highest possible identification number for a Spartan II given through the candidate selection would be S-300
@@Runedragonx Hence 133-7. My headcanon is that, for personal reasons, he pestered his commanders until "lucky 7" was added to his official ID (you know he's loud enough to make it work). I know this episode is very much not-canon. But let me believe dammit ! ;7 Let me believe that 133-7 was onboard the Pillar of Automn as it left Reach, that the random jumps brought them near a planet they sent a patrol to explore, that, due to being late to the extraction, he was left behind when Thel 'Vadam's fleet caught up and the Pillar jumped to unkown coordinates (Halo) ! PS : And I did my homework, the 133 slot isn't occupied in the Spartan II's list ;7
@@pierre-mariecaulliez6285 don't mind me as a take this and put it in my own canon. Ive wanted to make a short stop motion with 1337 but I wanted it to feel as canon as possible this has helped so much😂😂
I love seeing O'brian thinking about Cal at the end of The Babysitter, you can tell he's realizing how much of an impact she ended up having on his life. Cool video, glad someone's still talking about Halo Legends. It feels like not a lot of people actually know about the movie.
Probably because a lot of movies adapted from games tend to be disappointing and don’t live up to fan expectations. But this is an example of success in my opinion. In my opinion not all of the stories are incredible like Prototype, but each of them still have qualities that distinguish them from each other in there own way.
@@Fi_Sci_ I think a Halo tv series (which they are developing) would be better at storytelling. Halo is huge on lore and a 8-10 episode or more season of a Halo show would be able to tell a better story. You can get more story and characters and narrative in with an 8+ hour story than with most 2 hour films. I'm honestly glad that it's going to be a tv series and not movie. You can have just as much of a budget and success with a tv show and considering you can tell a much bigger scale story with a tv series, I think it's the right route to go.
@@Fi_Sci_ Yeah, more room for character development and you aren't limited by a runtime. So much can happen in just one season. You can have several stories happening at the same time too.
In Origins II if you look closely the Marines are wearing Halo 3 era armor..so when she was telling that part of the story she was chronicling the story of Halo 3 in which the Covenant did assist humans in combating the Flood. Edit: So he's is basically judging these barely knowing Halo lore apparently.
@@thatkidcgonzo That is not true. If you played Halo 2, then you would know about the Great Schism, and how the Elites had separated from the Covenant. By Halo 3, the elites are no longer part of the Covenant, which is why you don't fight any Elites, or encounter any Elites with the exception of Thel until Floodgate. If the Covenant were helping the humans during Floodgate, then why don't atr least the Grunts and Brutes appear to assist? And why are none of there as allies in The Ark and The Covenant. Also, why would the Elites help us in The Covenant if they were still in the Covenant?
@@grandstrategos1144 Fair point ig, maybe they could've phrased it differently..but this isn't the first time Halo media changed lore or added lore. The novels for example are canon, but add new or different lore. I don't make the rules lmao, I'm js that maybe The Covenant helped the humans outside the games for like Origins II stated for the briefest moment. The games aren't the only source of lore, many events happen while Master Chief is on his journey. So maybe they were wrong or maybe they weren't. All I'm saying is it could've happened. There's a possibility the Covenant helped the humans briefly combat the Flood outside the game's lore. We don't know for certain since the game lore like I said isn't the only lore. I was just making an observation based on what I saw in that short being the Marines wearing Halo 3 armor.
@@machina5 I enjoy it at least, though it's admittedly partly because I'm a little bit of a tank enthusiast, and I like the details regarding history that are shown or talked about, I enjoy that. Plus GuP got me into anime as a whole so that kinda helps with my opinion of it, though I do admit it's probably best described as an anime for beginners to watch, since it's simple and everything.
"the package is an interesting episode, it's the only CGI episode in all of Halo Legends" It's important to me that you know that the Duel was fully CGI, the reason it looks the way that it does is they used a watercolor filter over the top to give it the effect, which is why the detail is so completely broken down.
I know it doesn't transfer perfectly to my life but I relate to Ghost's disconnect from people in the beginning. I'm autistic and I don't quite understand or care for most people but "BE HUMAN" has always been my motto to remind me that everyone has a life that they're just trying their best to live.
Yep, on the very mild end of the spectrum here. I can definitely pass off as “normal” if we talk a bit, but it’s enough to feel a disconnect between me and everyone else as well. After I snapped from constant bullying, it had always been a struggle to decide whether to embrace or reject my humanity because while I want to do the right thing, me “being human” is still something I’m afraid of because it means fully experiencing the very human feelings of sadness, loneliness and emotional isolation that comes with it, as well as the white-hot anger from the seeming injustice that stems from the bullying. I relate with Ghost because he probably rejects his humanity to protect his own mind from snapping the same way I do.
Origins 2 is a pretty good foreshadowing of Cortana and her actions in Halo 5. I believe the original writers said she's an unreliable narrator and this episode represents her descent into rampancy. There's some good analysis on it once you look it up and speculation on the scenes that don't match up to canon.
Absolutely. Unrated comment. It didn't deserve the flack he gave it, there was so much more to it. And this guy also placed The duel and Homecoming and Odd one Out higher than it which is shocking tbh
Origins is just Cortana dumping lore at the viewers with some personal bias, it’s not completely terrible but it’s definitely the weakest of all the shorts, and not all that enjoyable TBH. Edit: Also after taking another look at Origins 2 actually no it’s fucking godawful. “Darkness born in eons past, became a threat to all life once again. And Humankind and the Covenant who had drowned for so long in each other’s blood, were united if only for the briefest moment against a terrible enemy they both shared.” ^That and the animation shots following that quote *HEAVILY* imply that the UNSC and Covenant had called a truce or formed an alliance to stop the Flood which, no, that’s not what fucking happened, unless you interpret “Covenant” to mean “Most Elites, several Grunts and most Hunters.”
Origins 2 was technically correct since it was from Cortana's point of view and every mission she was with you in 3 you fight the flood and with the arbiter there she thought the Covenant and UNSC joined to fight the flood
The absolute best part of "Prototype" was that at the end, when they were mentioning Ghost, he was labled MIA, even though they know he was wearing a nuke when it went out. You know Halo. You know what that means.
13:06 that’s not Fred, that’s Arthur-079. Fred is the guy with all the scars standing on his left (the guy they pan to next) aside from that, this video is great! The lineup is very fair and Prototype totally deserves that top spot
@@59hawks Actually, yeah, that sounds about right. It's unknown if the frigate made it to the rendezvous, or if the Midlothan was destroyed en route, beforehand, or later on, from what im recalling.
I really love that you put Tiens DBFZ theme when you started covering the Odd one out episode, since it’s basically just a Dragon Ball episode with a Halo skin. MAKE IT CANON 343.
i have a head canon for that episode, the other two guys who fought with 1337 to defeat the brute are also spartans but lost their memory when that frigate was crashed at the planet
The way Origins I and II portray the flood is perfect with skyscrapers and even entire cities being consumed by biomass. The shot of all the scorpions being dropped off to fire at the flood structures on the buildings is awesome. I wish the flood had this type of presence in the games outside of cortana in H3
The Duel no matter how over the top it seems it will always be my favorite since it shows how the Covenant are slowly crumbling and also that shot you said you liked the most being mine as well 10/10!!! (9:38)
I LOVE Prototype with every fiber of my being. I actually got Halo Legends on release day by complete coincidence, since I saw it at Wal-Mart on release day and asked my mom, "Is Halo, can I have?" So, that weekend, my best friend came over, we projected it on the wall, and watched Halo Legends with my folks. Even my parents, who aren't video game fans, much less Halo fans, actually really liked it. Mom thought it was a tad too mature for little 11/12 year old me and my friend, but didn't make a fuss about it or anything. But even after the past decade, the one quote I can hear PERFECTLY in my mind, "And for one last instant... I'm human again." So many lines from Prototype have echoed through my head, in good times and bad. And personally, Package is runner up just from the sheer blood-pumping action of that final run. The badass rendition of the Halo theme as the Spartans just carve a path through the ship. And I loved Fred facing down the Major with two knives and simply telling him "Alright. The Great Journey... ends here." Made Fred one of my favorite Spartans.
I remember seeing Legends as a kid too, and the Prototype episode being my favorite because of the action scenes, I ignored the story of Ghost cuz I was a kid. But a year or so, I for some reason wanted to rewatch it because of some nostalgia trip about the action scene, so I rewatched it but I guess I understood more avoid mature topics like sacrifice and so ended up getting teary eyed for Ghosts sacrifice.
I am glad Halo legends gets attention, it’s a fantastic series of shorts, the Short “Baby Sitter” was very influential as you can see through my PFP and name, a story of a squad of ODST’s with a Spartan with a simple mission, putting so much emotion, humor, humanization of the ODST’s, it’s just fantastic despite its bitter sweet ending.
Another inconsistency with Halo lore in Origins 2 is Cortana's war spiel. As a matter of fact, as we hear most explicitly in "the Impossible Life and Possible Death of Preston J Cole," Humanity had been experiencing a peaceful golden age after the discover of faster than light travel, and they expanded outward into the galaxy. In fact they began to become naïve and complacent because of a century of peace. It was only because of the insurrection that Humanity began getting its militial act together. When they became more accustomed to fighting each other again, it gave them a lucky preparation for when the Covenant attacked. This is most evident in the Spartans themselves, who were the convenient heroes in fighting against the Covenant despite being created to but down rebellion.
That's one of the things it seems most everyone misses, the Spartan program, and Mjolnir armor were never originally intended to deal with aliens, but with the insurrection.
Here I was thinking "Huh Halo content thats twtenty minuntes, I can watch it before bed.", now I am looking at a movie that is two hours long.. Thank you neptune.
Don't know if anyone informed you of this but I believe both the Origin episode's are depicted or at least Origin II is from Cortana's information and perspective. So that's why we see this random teaming of the Covenant and the UNSC to fight the Flood together, due to her borderline near status to rampancy. It's kind of a cheap way to explain it but I think it's fitting all things considered.
Origins 2 is Cortanas perspective of what she thought happened when she was captured by the grave mind. She wasnt there when the humans and elites made peace to fight the covenant and flood
Origins 1 will always have a place in my heart I just love every second of that episode and how they implemented everything we saw in the games about the furunners even showing us what the relic from halo wars did
Home coming, Babysitter, The package, Prototype were my favorite stories ever imo. Well done in terms of story and direction if you see the outside perspective. Opinion wise, I enjoyed it. But if this UA-camr or others didn't like Origins or the second, or Homecoming, I can respect your opinion. Overall, The dual is usually the one I skip, but I still give it a chance cause why not. Odd One Out, although not Canon and seemingly placed as us of "this is us as a Spartan if we ever see ourselves as The Master Chief" holds a special place in my heart for it's action, anime and comedy for me, just like the origins parts. Idk, it's just me I guess haha
Prototype really is just a perfect piece of media, and as good as The Babysitter is, Prototype just tops it in every regard. The emotional impact and storytelling, the quality of the animation, the way it shows off the sheer power of the prototype armour while still showing that it's not indestructible. The prototype is filawless, and I've only come to appreciate it more as I've gotten older.
Finally, someone else who thinks The Prototype is the best episode in the collection rather than The Package. If we were to ever get a full Halo anime series, I would want it to be made by Studio Bones with the same art style as The Prototype. It's absolutely perfect for Halo AND they really nailed the core of Halo to me.
I saw a explanation for Origin 2's inconsistences as being a side effect of Cortana's rampancy. Since she's the one telling the story, it's possible her memory was corrupted to some degree and misinterpreted the alliance with the elites as one with the entire covenant.
I will fight you on the Homecoming Ranking. But seriously I thought the Contrast between Daisy's Past, and Present was on Purpose to show how the Spartan program stripped them of their Identity
I'm not gonna fight you on Homecoming, but I'd like to bring up what I take away from the episode that make it so special to me. Daisy's story is one of choice, free will, and a bit of predestination. She's ripped away from her family as a child and spends the next few years desperately clinging to the idea of getting home and getting her life back. She's a bit of an anomaly in the S-II program, as she seems to have been taken from a wealthy family in the colonies, as opposed to the rest of her group that were taken from lower and middle-class families so that less people would care about a bunch of kids seemingly dying of degenerative health issues. This better life that she wants to get back to helps her resist the conditioning and eventually break out with some of her friends. She makes it home, evading the UNSC all the way until she comes face-to-face with her clone, one of the few that survived to that point because of her family's resources. Whether or not she kills the clone doesn't matter -- she'll be dead soon regardless, and it's left to our interpretation whether or not Daisy goes through with the murder of her clone. She ultimately completes her training while one of her escape buddies either washes out or evades ONI long enough for them to give up. Years later, she leads a retreat from her home planet. The evac point they're desperately rushing to is her old home, the same place she desperately ran to in her bid to escape the SPARTAN program. But just like her last visit, she ultimately doesn't escape. She dies, not 100 yards from her own grave, and the one member of her escape group does with her. Ultimately, it didn't matter what she chose. If she did kill her clone, she consigned that version of her to the same fate she ultimately suffered, in the same place to boot. If she had got out or hadn't joined the SPARTANs, she would likely have died in the same place, but without the grave marker her clone got. But as a SPARTAN, she lives on in the memory of Chief and the lives of those she rescued from her fate. As a SPARTAN, she never truly dies.
And thanks to the Hunt the Truth Campains its Cannon They actually go more in depth with the lore too, I won't spoil it too much but they cover the police reports of the other escapees encounters and Daisy's too. What got to me was the clone having dreams of Daisy's abilities and life as a Spartan, her strength and speed. Some serious philosophical stuff and lore implications there. Especially with the Science of Neural Physics that the Precursors supposedly had.
Personally, I found Daisy disappointing as she goes through all this bs just to die to some a-hole jackal sniper who decided to bring his needler today. I mean it's very good at showing us that you should hate ONI but seeing her die after going through all that with no justice just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and is just depressing.
Not only that, she died pretty much at the finish line. I have this head-canon that the group that escaped were pretty much friends from day one, and kind of the bottom tier of the program. Performance wise they were the worst (while John and his friends were the best) and that they were never actually brainwashed, acted rebellious all the time and were tortured way worse because of it. I'd imagine that they and grey team didn't care for the other brainwashed kids and had their small little revolutionary faction going, as far as possible at least. And if her and John were actually enemies growing up, instead of friends, it would give even more meaning to the final scene. But after their escape failed, two of the group commited suicide, Ralph lost his mind, and Joseph probably died and some point before the episode. Daisy has nothing left. I disagree with the video's idea that the future part wasn't interesting. There's a clear difference in Daisy's demeanor before and after she talks to Ralph. First, she's pretty much moves and looks like a ghost. You could imagine that she really couldn't give af weather she lives or dies anymore. But when they're making a run for the Pelican, she acts completely different! Before she fought like she had a deathwish, but on the warthog, she is on on edge, shouts frantically at the marines. Basically, she starts out probably borderline suicidal, but after she finds out Ralph is there, she's actually TRYING to survive. Besides her teddy bear, Ralph is probably the only piece of humanity she has left, the only thing she loves. The story is trying to say that in her mind she thinks; if she can just get to him and survive, everything will be fixed. She'll have a reason to live, a real reason, not some bullshit she doesn't acctually care about like "duty", or "mankind". But you know how it ends...
Guess I have to rewatch now. Listening to you talk about how you used to just be happy for anything Halo made me realize that I was the exact same way. So now I'm going to go back and genuinely watch it. Thank you haha
*Sees Prototype at #1* Ah, another man of culture I see. All jokes aside, Prototype was, and always will be, my favorite Halo Legends short. Ever since I bought the physical copy of the movie on a whim, I would always think how cool the prototype suit was or how I wish Ghost was in one of the games.
The "Covenant" that fought the Flood while being allied with the UNSC was probably the studio misinterpreting the Sangheili-led Fleet of Retribution that was formed after the Great Schism.
With hindsight, cortanas "war war war" speel makes a little more sense now. Granted I don't think it was ever planned as they changed the story after the reception of Halo 4 and the failure of Halo MCC, but I can easily imagine that the fragment of cortana that made its way to the Domain was this part of her subroutine. Doesn't excuse the mishandling of 5, granted when you go through development hell, I wouldn't put the blame all on them.
What I got from prototype was that a ghost loved someone from the squad and once she died he cut himself from all emotion not caring about his future squads until that last battle when declared to “be human” to see her with his humanity and not as a ghost.
I'd didn't actually happen. Watch the end of the episode and you see signs of Cortana rampancy as she glitches from blue to red several times. Everything she says should be taken with a grain of salt because she is slowly going insane.
Watching this reminded me why I fell in love with Halo Legends years ago. I was a bit surprised by some placements like Odd One Out and Origins Pt. 2 (been years like I said), but I understand and do agree with much of your sentiments about each segment. This video reminds me why I need to watch Halo Legends again. Your points were well made, clear, to the point and it wasn't full of the over-exaggerated reactions and other shit I've come to hate over the years. Basically: great video!
@@KingRogue Not to say the episode was bad by any means I actually enjoyed all of the episodes but it was just lacking to me compared to the others My biggest gripe for that episode was it's art style to me it didn't look that great to watch
Odd one out better be s tier. Ok, i understand why you put it at 5 But i do agree, off of enjoyment factor, itd be a number 1. Its a really good episode.
I remember going to a blockbuster with my dad to watch this on the weekend. I rewatched it over the summer of 2020 as my sister and I were playing through the series together, and boy did the memories slap me across the face.
I played a decent amount of halo with my friends when I was young. And I because of that I owned most halo games (all now). Never was a huge fan but finished halo 3 and reach. This video was superb and I hope u blow up. And Imma go watch the last 3 stories of this vid with my brother. Peace
@@Theclooch I’m rlly strict when it comes to anime, but for an anime based off of an American game, they did a superb job with those 3 short stories. There were some minor problems but it was very enjoyable. Makes me wish their was more to the Cal-141 Spartan story and what the squad did after her death. The ghost story ending was very conclusive and I don’t wish for any more of that story. Pros: beautiful animation, good plot, great adaptation that makes me care for characters other than chief, Just FUUUUUNNN overall. Cons: -American VAs were good but no where near Japanese level VA. -Wish it was longer for more development (good development given the timeframe) -Best waifu dead... rlly wish there was more to her character, too bad she dies (my brothers reaction finding out she was a girl was hilarious) -felt empty after cal death (not rlly a con by who cares) Question: is there any more to the odst story for that squad or is that it? (makes me feel empty like every other bittersweet ending) Edit: found out their was more but O’Brien died I think? Dam...
@@seankim5762 As far as I know, there are no other stories with the team. The only thing is that the one ODST from the episode, Dutch, also appears in Halo 3: ODST (A spin-off game to Halo 3). And now something complicated: The O'Brien from the episode is not considered in fan consensus to be the O'Brien who died. Halo 2 got a bonus cutscene in a multiplayer pack back in the day called "Another Day at the Beach" (you can watch it on the internet, it even got a remake as an Anniversary cutscene. I highly recommend) and in this cutscene is an ODST named "O'Brien" who dies, but there is no confirmation and also no evidence (except the same name) that both are the same person, after all the name O'Brien is now also a very common name, so you can assume that both are different people. I hope I could help lol.
@@boi1133 helped out a lot actually thanks. I’ve known halo for a long ass time as it was the reason why I got my first Xbox in 2012, but the story was just way too long to keep up with and I was too young to rlly grasp everything. Getting little bits of info tho, while knowing the general main story is always pretty entertaining, so thx.
Prototype rocks. Rocks so damn hard it blows my mind. It all comes together, visuals / dub (for the most part…) / and the soundtrack. I still find myself watching this every once in awhile haha.
Legends is so good, it carries that feeling of bitter sweetness that all the halo games and lore carries, that at any moment you may have to do what you gotta, and that in war anyone can be a casualty, Daisy, The Babysitter, and Prototype really drive this home and thats why their my favorite although I always feel a little depressed after seeing those characters die.....and then there's Odd One Out which is a great tonal shift and I love it to death, HOW IS IT NOT CANON?
My favourite episode is Odd One Out because its hilarious to watch, I see myself in Spartan 1337, and it doesn’t end with someone dying tragically. Seriously, why does someone have to always die in these episodes, why do they always have to pull at my heart strings?
For me, The Babysitter is the sickest overall. Then Odd One Out is definitely one I would probably play first for someone who's new to the series. Then Origins is probably 3rd for me(especially pt 1). It's good to play at night when everyone is ready to go to sleep. What I like about these the most though is how they're basically a perfect compilation of all the best music.
I 100% agree that the Prototype is number one. It is something that lingers in the back of my mind just because of how it just makes you feel. Such big swings of emotion, both high and low, to what feels like the most bittersweet conclusions.
my only two questions when I opened this video were: "What about Odd One Out?" and "What is the best episode of this series and why it's the Prototype?"
the duel i would say it does a good job at showing the culture of the elites and how the Arbiter became a status of honor to a Badge of shame so danm well
When I was but a baby, I thought the package was the best because it was all action. But now, I realize that Prototype is obviously the best, not only because the action, but also because of the amount of character Ghost gets. Now if only I could get a movie out of Prototype.
Found you randomly through my recommended at 2 am before heading to bed, good vid, subbed. But, as someone who has also started delving a bit into anime this year, if you like Studio Bones, you should totally check out Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. The best way I can describe it is a fantasy world, but filled with conspiracies that would typically be thought up from someone like Alex Jones, it's good shit. (Also, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are both amazing, check them out too!)
Probably because it’s a bunch of chad spartan 2’s that mow down waves of covenant with a bad ass song track behind it and gave blue team a pretty decent relationship with chief...UNLIKE A CERTAIN OTHER GAME
Homecoming is top 3 for me. Not slow, but not fast. And it tells imo the most heartfelt story in most of Halo. If I had to rank it Prototype Babysitter Homecoming Package Odd One Out The Duel. Never liked the art. Thats all i can really say. And then both Origins, which i skip every time.
I know I'm over a year late, and I doubt you'll respond to me, but I wanted to comment anyway so here I go, I'm really upset that you put Girls und Panzer when you said "some of it's bad" for anime. The anime is really good, I love it so much and seeing you jokingly label it as bad is upsetting to me. But you have your opinions and I have mine, and Girls und Panzer is really a special anime to me and all anime have their target audience, so I'll just leave it at that. Halo legends in my opinion is fantastic with none of the episodes being bad, really my opinions on Halo Legends match for most of the episodes, now I may not be able to fully convey everything I love about each episode, but I'll try to, and others have already explained each episode so it's best to read those comments for the explanations of each episode. For Origins 2 i agree it rewrites the Halo story and gets it all wrong, the music was great and I loved it so much, the visuals were amazing too especially the Covenant/UNSC team up against the Flood, I very much agree that Origins 2 was the worst of them all,, but the episode was not bad, not at all, it's just that the rest were better. For Homecoming I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favorite really my reasons are much the same as yours, Daisy's origin story was great while the present was mediocre, but I still very much enjoyed it even if the divided story can hamper the enjoyment of it, the animations were fantastic and the ending was sad and perfect and the context behind the ending just made it even better. when I first saw The Duel I was an Elite fanboy and loved the Duel so much, but now that I'm older I see it in a new light I see that it is redden with clichés and the water colors was an interesting choice for art style, but I still love and enjoy it regardless, and that ending with the epic shot between Fal and Haka was absolutely awesome I loved it so much when I was a kid and I still love it today 11 years later, and one more thing I really enjoy the Fal vs giant army scene. For Odd One Out I found it a great change of pace and I enjoyed the comedy I even laughed when I first saw it, this was the funniest for me and I loved it so much, and the fights, the characters, the animation, the art style, the music, the voice acting, and the ending was really good, I really loved and enjoyed it so much, and the episode describes itself best with "Less Talk, More Action!" So yeah that's Odd One Out. For The Package, I really didn't like it compared to the others really, for me I would have put The Package below Odd One Out, and I'm debating whether to put this episode below The Duel, Homecoming, or Origins 2, I really didn't like it compared to the others, but I still enjoyed it very much from the flight to the Shipmasters Flagship to the Spartan run through the ship to the energy sword duel between the Chief and the Major the ending, I really enjoyed this a lot but I just enjoy the others more. For Origins 1 I loved watching the origins of the Halos and taking a look at the history of the Forunners before their fall by the Flood, I really loved the visuals, the animations, the art style, Cortana's voice over of the events, I love all of it and just talking about this makes me want to buy the movie and rewatch the movie. For The Babysitter I really loved the story behind it and the dynamic between the ODSTs and Spartan Cal, I also loved the animation, the art style, the music, the Characters, and the ending, I loved all of it, the story really got me I never expected Cal to die but after all of the events of the story I loved the ending when the ODSTs defended Cal when a marine mocked her death, my favorite aspect of the episode was the interactions between Cal and O'Brian, it was cute at first and so saddening and tragic at the end with her death, but when O'Brian picked up that Sniper Rifle and took aim I was hyped and cheered for O'Brian to take out the prophet and complete the mission making sure Cal did not die in vain, I really loved the story so much, I could say more bit I really said enough already. And For The Prototype...what can I say really that hasn't already been said, the animation was amazing, the music was beautiful, the art style was really great, the character of Ghost was amazing and his backstory was tragic and beautiful, and the story was amazing and I cannot easily describe how great both the story, especially Ghost's backstory, and more specially the ending, Ghost and the Prototype suit were amazingly awesome and the fight against the Covenant, his last stand, was awesome, the animation during the fight was amazing, the dialogue between the characters throughout the episode, especially between Ghost and his commanding officer was amazing, and that ending sacrifice was beautiful, especially with that last smile and "Be Human" I cannot describe my love for this whole episode in general, I just love all of it so much. So that is my feelings and opinions about Halo Legends, I doubt anyone will read this,as this video is more than a year old, but I just wanted to say my feelings on this movie, and I did so if you read all of this, or just skipped to the end, thank you for taking the time to read this and have a good rest of your day.

By the way, out of the main characters of The Babysitter, the only one confirmed to have survived the Human-Covenant War (and to actually still be alive as of the latest known lore (I word it this way since we don't know what might chance with Halo Infinite)) is Dutch. He was one of the main ODST characters in Halo 3: ODST. After the war he returned to civilian life, but it felt to weird for him so he enrolled into the Spartan IV program and is now the leader of his own Spartan-IV fireteam. Out of the other ODSTs from The Babysitter, the only one whose fate we know is O'Brien. Well, we don't actually know for sure, but at least we know that an ODST with the exact with name died in the Pelican that crash on the beach of New Mombasa in the second mission of Halo 2. It's just that it was never official confirmed whether the two were meant to be the same person in-lore. Though we don't learn of O'Brien's death in the actual Halo 2 game (since the game doesn't let you read the names on the tags of the dead soldiers), we actually learn of it in the "Another Day at the Beach" bonus video that came with the "Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack." It's a 3D animation video about what happened to the other Pelican that was hit by the Scarab at the beginning of the second Halo 2 mission, with that Pelican crashing on the beach and then the surviving ODSTs that were on board go on to fight some Covenants (including an invisible Elite) and then they go and occupy the building that lead to the beach (aka, the same building with soldiers in it that we encounter in the 2nd Mission right before arriving to the beach, and we help them fight off the Covenants attacking the building). Also, Blur Studios made a remastered version of "Another Day at the Beach" and that remastered version was added alongside Halo 2: Anniversary in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Me: This heretic and all who follow him must be silenced.
I didn't really care for homecoming it just didn't vibe with me for some reason
I hated homecoming it looked too generic with the style of designs
@@thatkidcgonzo his point is it implies the Covenant united with Humanity to battle the Flood rather then it being a splinter faction that did that

Seems about right
Rumor has it, 133-7 is the motivation behind the say "Spartans never die, they're simlpy MIA"... The guy's been missing so many times, and always, always eventually found his way home ! Somehow never breaching Cole protocole.
Spartan-II - Sierra Company ID#1337
S-1337 for short
This story is entirely non-canon
The Spartan II program selected 300 children throughout the colonies, 150 were approved for budget, this number was further shortened to only 75 candidates due to even more budget restrictions.
Ive wanted to make a short stop motion with 1337 but I wanted it to feel as canon as possible this has helped so much😂😂
I thought it was a morale thing, Since hearing that Your Battalions spartan was torn in half by a Jackal would bring Marines morale down
UNSC are trying to get rid of him constantly sending him to planets yet he always seems to come back
I love seeing O'brian thinking about Cal at the end of The Babysitter, you can tell he's realizing how much of an impact she ended up having on his life.
@@thatkidcgonzo I agree, Shows in general can often times be superior to movies because of how much more development is offered.

I know it doesn't transfer perfectly to my life but I relate to Ghost's disconnect from people in the beginning. I'm autistic and I don't quite understand or care for most people but "BE HUMAN" has always been my motto to remind me that everyone has a life that they're just trying their best to live.
Same story here. While Ghost probably isn't autistic it would certainly explain his lack of connection.
I honestly think if they ever made a halo animated show, if the style wasn’t in the style of The Prototype it just wouldn’t feel right.

And Humankind and the Covenant who had drowned for so long in each other’s blood, were united if only for the briefest moment against a terrible enemy they both shared.”
^That and the animation shots following that quote *HEAVILY* imply that the UNSC and Covenant had called a truce or formed an alliance to stop the Flood which, no, that’s not what fucking happened, unless you interpret “Covenant” to mean “Most Elites, several Grunts and most Hunters.”
Origins 2 was technically correct since it was from Cortana's point of view and every mission she was with you in 3 you fight the flood and with the arbiter there she thought the Covenant and UNSC joined to fight the flood
@@ayylmao575 that's why it's called an unreliable narrator

The WHOLE of Prototype is one tear jerker after another, especially with the most GUT WRENCHING rendition of Unforgotten/Never Forget

It's the soul of halo
Same bro
Don't know if anyone informed you of this but I believe both the Origin episode's are depicted or at least Origin II is from Cortana's information and perspective. So that's why we see this random teaming of the Covenant and the UNSC to fight the Flood together, due to her borderline near status to rampancy. It's kind of a cheap way to explain it but I think it's fitting all things considered.
Either way, humans did team up with the elites to stop the flood so there truth to that
Nope. It's Frank O Conner's fault. See: The video 'We Were Forerunner'
Origins 2 is Cortanas perspective of what she thought happened when she was captured by the grave mind. She wasnt there when the humans and elites made peace to fight the covenant and flood
Nope. It's Frank O' Conner's understanding - or unfathomable lack thereof - of what happened in Halo 3 because he's a fucking moron.
Every time someone mentions a character named ghost
THIS is the ghost that I think of
The story of the first “heretical” arbiter was awesome. Really loved the Naruto and even Japanese samurai vibes the Elites gave off.

He didn’t he realize that place they are evacuating from was her former her
I'm not gonna fight you on Homecoming, but I'd like to bring up what I take away from the episode that make it so special to me.
And thanks to the Hunt the Truth Campains its Cannon
They actually go more in depth with the lore too, I won't spoil it too much but they cover the police reports of the other escapees encounters and Daisy's too.
What got to me was the clone having dreams of Daisy's abilities and life as a Spartan, her strength and speed. Some serious philosophical stuff and lore implications there. Especially with the Science of Neural Physics that the Precursors supposedly had.
Great work on the video man, just great work.
Also The Duel is canon to the Halo story and I love that
Personally, I found Daisy disappointing as she goes through all this bs just to die to some a-hole jackal sniper who decided to bring his needler today. I mean it's very good at showing us that you should hate ONI but seeing her die after going through all that with no justice just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and is just depressing.
That's war man. Does the job of showing just how fucked humanity was that one of our greatest warriors got offed just like that.
I mean I got killed by a-hole jackal snipers on legendary and heroic 25k times. So I mean It seems justified to me
She’s killed by an elite not a jackal
Prototype made us all cry. It was beautiful story with a tear jerking ending
Guess I have to rewatch now. Listening to you talk about how you used to just be happy for anything Halo made me realize that I was the exact same way. So now I'm going to go back and genuinely watch it. Thank you haha
Ok, I know he technically isn't. But Ghost is the first Spartan ever in my eyes...it's just how the short presents him that makes me feel that way
*Sees Prototype at #1*
Ah, another man of culture I see.
All jokes aside, Prototype was, and always will be, my favorite Halo Legends short. Ever since I bought the physical copy of the movie on a whim, I would always think how cool the prototype suit was or how I wish Ghost was in one of the games.
I always forget that headhunters isn't in legends. Though I have to admit that's one of my favorite animated halo bits, that and the baby sitter
Bro feel you what you mean about prototype, actually in high school when I was really depressed that episode inspired me to be better, to be human
Great to hear.
You are getting better at editing these, man! Congrats!
I think the "Covenant" allying with Humanity in Origins II is meant to be the Swords of Sanghelios? That's pretty much the only thing I can think of
I'd didn't actually happen.
Basically: great video!
this is how I rank them worst to best
Origins 2
the duel
Odd one out
origins 1
the package
Prototype
Daisy
the Babysitter
you rank the duel that low?
@@KingRogue Not to say the episode was bad by any means I actually enjoyed all of the episodes but it was just lacking to me compared to the others
My biggest gripe for that episode was it's art style to me it didn't look that great to watch
@@KingRogue The weird part is ranking Daisy that high.
never forget in bungies halo the forerunner WERE humans
Odd one out better be s tier.
Ok, i understand why you put it at 5
But i do agree, off of enjoyment factor, itd be a number 1.
Its a really good episode.
I’ve said it a million times over, we should’ve gotten an anime series of halo rather than a live action one
ooooh a halo vid, let's goooooo!
Peace
@@Theclooch
I’m rlly strict when it comes to anime, but for an anime based off of an American game, they did a superb job with those 3 short stories.
Cons:
-American VAs were good but no where near Japanese level VA.
-Wish it was longer for more development (good development given the timeframe)
-Best waifu dead... rlly wish there was more to her character, too bad she dies (my brothers reaction finding out she was a girl was hilarious)
-felt empty after cal death (not rlly a con by who cares)
Question: is there any more to the odst story for that squad or is that it? (makes me feel empty like every other bittersweet ending)
Edit: found out their was more but O’Brien died I think? Dam...
@@seankim5762
As far as I know, there are no other stories with the team. The only thing is that the one ODST from the episode, Dutch, also appears in Halo 3: ODST (A spin-off game to Halo 3).
And now something complicated:
The O'Brien from the episode is not considered in fan consensus to be the O'Brien who died.
Legends is so good, it carries that feeling of bitter sweetness that all the halo games and lore carries, that at any moment you may have to do what you gotta, and that in war anyone can be a casualty, Daisy, The Babysitter, and Prototype really drive this home and thats why their my favorite although I always feel a little depressed after seeing those characters die.....and then there's Odd One Out which is a great tonal shift and I love it to death, HOW IS IT NOT CANON?
nice to come back to these old memoires, thanks for that man.
When I think of halo legends I also think about this halo 2 strategy guide I had as a kid
I 100% agree that the Prototype is number one. It is something that lingers in the back of my mind just because of how it just makes you feel. Such big swings of emotion, both high and low, to what feels like the most bittersweet conclusions.
holy shit im obsessed with this channel
Homecoming i like, it shows the story of a spartan who tries to come home but can’t because she shouldn’t come home as she belongs to the UNSC
my only two questions when I opened this video were: "What about Odd One Out?" and "What is the best episode of this series and why it's the Prototype?"
the duel i would say it does a good job at showing the culture of the elites and how the Arbiter became a status of honor to a Badge of shame so danm well
I still cry with prototype as well when I feel like I need to get some tears out I know where to go
When I was but a baby, I thought the package was the best because it was all action.
(Also, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are both amazing, check them out too!)
prototype and babysitter hit harder than a drunken methed up dad with a belt
“Be Human” that always chokes me up 😭
Homecoming, Prototype, and Baby Sitter are my fave
The package has always been my favorite episode. I don’t know why. It’s just something about it
Probably because it’s a bunch of chad spartan 2’s that mow down waves of covenant with a bad ass song track behind it and gave blue team a pretty decent relationship with chief...UNLIKE A CERTAIN OTHER GAME
@@raginlemon9261 yea that
I just stumbled on your channel, really looking forward to more videos of anything in the future, subbed!
Homecoming is top 3 for me. Not slow, but not fast. And it tells imo the most heartfelt story in most of Halo.
If I had to rank it
Prototype
Babysitter
Homecoming
Package
Odd One Out
The Duel. Never liked the art. Thats all i can really say.
And then both Origins, which i skip every time.
I cant believe you put homecoming so low, The origin story of the Spartans is so great!
Finally, content
Cortana being preachy in Origins 2 makes a LOT more sense in the context of Halo 5.
I was going to dislike your comment since you said you got upset over an opinion but I decided to read your comment even further and then all the way and I must apologize. Your comments were backed with analysis and deep thought and not all from hate or clouded from disagreement. You could have just mentioned that you were upset over the girl und panzer comment and left but instead you still decided to gift us with a full look onto your perspective of the episodes and so I must thank you, it was a great read.
@@MrNuggett99 Thank you for the apology, I really appreciate it, yes I was upset about him putting my favorite anime in the bad category but I can put my feelings aside for the topic at hand. As for the episodes, I've seen them many many times, and loved every second of them, so I was able to form my own in depth opinions about them, and I was glad to write them all down so everyone can read them. Thanks for taking the time to read all of it, even if the beginning mislead you at first, I really love and appreciate when others take a look and read what I've written, it really lifts my spirits to know I've made others happy, so thanks for the time to read this and have a good rest of your day.
Glad to see a civil conversation on the internet every once and a while, I also agree that Girls und Panzer is good anime. Ever since I watched Halo legends I’ve been hoping for another one, especially since I’ve seen Star Wars: Visions which follow somewhat similar principles as Halo legends. I enjoyed your writing, have a good day.
Damn this man wrote an encyclopedia.
@@notcooldudette5035 Thank you for reading my comment, even if it's a long one, and I'm glad you enjoyed my writing. I too am looking for more anime to watch following Halo Legends and I just haven't made the time to watch Star Wars Visions yet but it looks really interesting so I will most definitely watch it in the bear future. Thank you for reading my comment and enjoying it all the way through, and I hope you have a good rest of your day.
Edit: I honestly could say more but my comment is long enough and my comment here that you replied to is a perfect example of so I'll just leave this as it is. It was nice talking to you, and I'm glad you could read my long comment all the way through. I hope you have a good rest of your day and beyond and thank you for wishing me the same.
Though we don't learn of O'Brien's death in the actual Halo 2 game (since the game doesn't let you read the names on the tags of the dead soldiers), we actually learn of it in the "Another Day at the Beach" bonus video that came with the "Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack."
It's a 3D animation video about what happened to the other Pelican that was hit by the Scarab at the beginning of the second Halo 2 mission, with that Pelican crashing on the beach and then the surviving ODSTs that were on board go on to fight some Covenants (including an invisible Elite) and then they go and occupy the building that lead to the beach (aka, the same building with soldiers in it that we encounter in the 2nd Mission right before arriving to the beach, and we help them fight off the Covenants attacking the building).
Also, Blur Studios made a remastered version of "Another Day at the Beach" and that remastered version was added alongside Halo 2: Anniversary in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
Prototype actually made me cry when I was a kid.
Still makes me tear up
Yeah me too.
I always wished they animated the Halo short stories like Dirt.
