- Discover Spain just an hour's walk from Torres de Alcala on the Moroccan coast. As it's a military island it's strictly off limits to you and me. Note the blue rope which is the border between Europe and Africa/Spain and Morocco.

Fascinating footage, thank you for sharing this. Must be the most boring-yet-beautiful place to be stationed as a Spanish soldier.
Imagine having to be on guard for countless hours all geared up in a horrible hot sunny day, where your only view is Moroccan families having a good time swimming in the beach.
I would go there from the Moroccan side and shout: Romania, European Union, while weaving my Romanian passport and asking if I could enter. Why would they say no? I am a Romanoan citozen thus EU citizen and I even know the first stanza from the Spanish anthem.
@@iGamezRo You can not enter there neither I am (I am spaniard) because is a military position and civilians cannot enter there (spaniards or foreigners). Is the same with the rest of small peñones and islansds (Chararinas, Alborán, Islas de Alhucemas). Instead you can go freely to Ceuta and Melilla, two wonderful spanish cities there.
@@brakaponter i saw some photos of people going in and out but just the beach side connected to morroco. i think that they they kick you out if you want to go on the rock

I love how it's a military garrison, yet the official border marker is literally just a blue piece of rope lying on the sand next to a few old fishing dhingys and a volleyball net.
1:40 - The shortest international border in the world, measuring just 85 metres (279 ft) long.
La Gaviota del 01:56 es Española .
This is the world's shortest single land-border segment!
Do those military ever leave and stuff ?
Come take them if you are man enough we will wash those cities with your blood just like we did in annoual battle, and we are coming for cueta and melilla and all the other occupied territories your time will come.

Si eres europeo, nada.
You get reduced to the floor and arrested after that depends where you are form if you are from eu I guess sent to the peninsula and arrested and if Moroccan sent to the morocan authorities
La mitad de Marruecos fueron provincias españolas, decidieron crear Marruecos y así les va.
¡Todo gracias a Franco!
Actually it is from the point of view of History why this place is Spain.
it has been Spanish since the 1500s
@@jorgeblancoiniesta5115 it will be time to put such poor soldiers to go home in basque, madrid barcelone or everywhere but not in africa, ceuta and melilla are devoited and destinated to embrace theire true moroccan culture
@@issamehtp They've all been Spanish centuries before Morocco existed. The common rule on both sides of the Alboran sea goes right back to the 10th century and the Cordoban caliphate. Saying they belong to Morocco just because they share the same continent is absurd.
@@lmlmd2714 If geographic fact is absurd accordingg to you, what about wikipedia ? according to wikipedia: ceuta : "Founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC. J.-C., the city is rich of a fruitful and original cultural history because of its strategic position and different in its turn from the surrounding culture of North Africa, Amazigh, Moorish then Arab (......) It belongs to Tingitane Mauretania and becomes a first-rate commercial center, taking advantage of its location as a Mediterranean crossroads.
The alternations in the domination over the city are reflected in the predominant culture in each era. Seven centuries of Muslim domination almost entirely erased the Roman and Christian vestiges of the city (....) 1415: Portugal takes Ceuta from the Merinid dynasty and thus begins a vast campaign of colonial expeditions in Africa: Battle of Ceuta (1415)." Concerning being spanish before morocco existed, I just want to tell you stop inventing facts from the bottom of your anus, always according to wikipedia : "the first Moroccan state was established by Idris I in 788", ceuta was taken in 1415, melilla in 1497, if you quickly combine these dates they were taken from who ? Yes good answer, it's Morocco ..
Concerning morocco, there were several dynasties which are the roots of current morocco, even if their name is not "morocco", but has spain or any other nation always been called like now ? NOPE

Can I cross the border and claim asylum?
This is a good question actually...
It's a military outpost, so no.
If you want to get shot...
Why would you claim asylum? Are you running away from a war?
No but that's a hilariously easy way to get shot.

- Peñón Alhucemas: delivered by the Saadian Sultan Muley Abdalá in 1560 to the Spanish Crown in exchange for protection from the Ottoman invasions.
- North of Morocco: Republic of the Rif.
- Cabo Juby: 1767, Mohámmed ben Abdel·lah, Sultan of Morocco, signed in writing that did not guarantee King Carlos III the safety of Spanish fishermen by recognizing that he did not have sovereignty in these lands.
