Thank you so much! I have to pick up my truck in a few hours at 6am to help me move. Your video is very helpful in showing us what to expect. I’m more confident about the pickup now 😂👍🏽
Wow, super helpful ... now you've got me reconsidering a truck instead of the U boxes for my move. A lot of really good information in this video. Thank you!!
Awesome vid! Now i know what to expect when i do this. I will be picking my up at 1 AM so the fact they do not need to be open for me to rent a truck is great!
Hey Peter, it's 5 years since you recorded that video. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! 😂 I'm tech savvy, but I'm just going to rent the UHAUL "Old School" style. At the counter. In person. 😂 For anyone who may need GOOD instructions on working the App? And some of the problems you "might" encounter? THIS video is VERY helpful.
That picture looks just like you. Thanks for the video, I searched to see how this rent by phone thing works. I had U-Haul storage for a long time. The U-Haul app really sucks.
I guess this process goes smoothly depending on where you live. I live in The Bronx and signed up for 24/7. I got an email confirmation saying I could pick up the truck an hour early as long as I bring my phone to start the process. I get here early, and it says to wait till the place opens up for me to have my vehicle hand delivered :). Awesome!
Thanks a lot. It did help me prepare well before going there to pick up. Few issues I encountered - Since I was doing it first time, they wanted to do certain identity verification, either two reference contacts, or passport or lease agreement. It took me a while to get it done. I wished if this was done earlier when booking, rather than during pick up. Another issue was with the photo of DL and many other items I had to take. My phone camera (OP6T) takes high res photos. So, the uhaul was not able to accept high mb photos. I had to do some camera settings change to work. Everything else was just as seen in the video. Thanks a lot for this.
My pleasure. Sounds like my experience. It was really sunny that day, and I actually had to get in the shade to get usable photos. It just seemed like more work than I was expecting, but it did work.
I watched your video yesterday and then went and did the whole process. It was exactly as your video showed. Thank you so much uploading so I knew what to expect. Cheers!
@@Nessal83 tbh I don’t know what they asked them. They’re really just looking to see if you are who you say you are I guess lol but the call is super quick. It won’t take them more then a minute to verify everything. The process was super easy!
For some reason, it seems like they charged you for a day rental, instead of based on mileage, according to the check out process when you returned. I wish my uhaul did this.
@@petervonpanda Agreed. I get that they want to verify mileage, condition of the truck, etc. But unless you are picking up and dropping off after hours, there isn't any advantage to using the app. Thanks again for making the video.
Thanks for showing the process! I was thinking if I should either use the app, or go in person for the pickup, because I wasn't sure how complicated the app is to use.
IF ITS A NEW LICENSE WILL THEY STILL BE ABLE TO ACCEPT ME USING THAT UHAUL? I PLAN TO MOVE SOON AND IM SCARED TO DRIVE A BIG UHAUL IM ONLY 18 AND I GOTT AMOVE OUT OF MY PARENTS HOUSE AND I DONT HAVE A LICENSE YET BUT IM TRYING OT GET ONE
Do they still charge the $100 refundable deposit if you use the app to check in and out. I remember last time I checked in with a person, they charged me the extra $100 deposit but didnt see it anywhere on your billing when you checked in online.
that is a lot of steps to check in. imagine check out....especially after long drive, move or trip i see myself too tired, don't want to do all that possibly make mistakes. this is one time i like people vs robot.
If I make the reservation, and list additional drivers, can one of the additional drivers pick up the vehicle? For example I created a reservation online, but my Mother needs to to pick up the truck, and I've listed her as the primary driver on the reservation. It's confusing because if she logs in at uhaul, the reservation would be actually be under my account. Should she login to my account when she is at the location?
Peter - Regarding the partition between the front cockpit to the cargo area, is it sliding so that the driver or passenger can access the cargo area without getting out of the van?
Thank you Peter, that was a great video, and your voice has great resonance and it's very succint. You are great on the electronic stuff. I',m planning on moving a fridge, and a stove, conventional size. What type of truck do you think I should get, and will they also rent a dolly, or a cart to move the appliances? About how much more is it for a truck with the ramp?
I’m not sure about the ramp. However I think for those two items, the full size van will probably work but if you want to get some more stuff in, might be worth moving up to the small box truck.
Hi, I work for U-Haul, and I thought Peter’s video on the Truckshare Program was great and very informative! The 15 ft Truck is the smallest truck big enough to put a ramp under the box, but if you are planning on moving just 2 appliances, the 10ft truck would be the best option for you. As for Dollies, you can definitely rent them online, and if using the Truckshare program, your dealer will place them inside the truck before your rental. Best of luck on your rental!
So what was your total mileage driven as well as your rate? Could you possibly do a breakdown of the receipt and all of the fees and charges? It does not seem nearly as good of a deal as advertised I mean g you would expect a vehicle that has $19.95 plastered on the side of it as though it were the majority price tag and for the fees and various other charges not to exceed that $19.95 sign on the side of the truck so I'm very surprised that you started off at twenty bucks and then somehow got hit up for an extra $60 on just fees and mileage because that does not seem like a $20 deal... And all that being said, what exactly does the $20 deal get you? 1 mile? you rent the truck drive it for a mile and then take it back and there's your 20 bucks? I mean it just seems like a total bait-and-switch for them to put $20 on the side of the van and then for your fees to exceed the cost of the rental so I mean geez I mean it's well known that the rental car agencies and rental van and hauling agencies for moving houses and whatnot those companies are ripe for disruption in the same way that ober disrupted the taxi industry and hopefully once technology decides to disrupt those industries we will have a plethora of options to be able to rent vehicles on demand and might end up in a situation where even in large sprawl cities where a car is a necessity, we'll end up at a point where we no longer need to own a vehicle we can just rent one whenever we need one and it's affordable enough not to have to weigh the pros and cons of buying a car vs renting one for $500 a week you know? Anyways, great video /rant
They charge you 19.99 a day for the truck but then they slap on .89 cents a mile onto the charge! So if you’re driving a long way, it’ll rack up the bill quickly. I’ve heard that they do give you deals if you are driving more than 200 miles or something like that. But it’s still pretty costly at the end. But, if you don’t own a van and need one, it’s the best deal around most of the time!
So, in people's experience, is this actually faster than a counter pick-up? It seems like a lengthy and annoying process. More of a hassle than a convenience.
Too much time to do this online. I'd rather deal with the person. Much quicker. And you don't kill 25% of your phone battery when dealing with the person. So many hoops to jump through.
Cmon, people! Cant you just put the freakin phones away and walk into the building?? The process is probably faster than all the bs you have to do in the parking lot.
Thank you so much! I have to pick up my truck in a few hours at 6am to help me move. Your video is very helpful in showing us what to expect. I’m more confident about the pickup now 😂👍🏽
Ditto! I feel more comfortable with picking up my truck using self service too now :) hope uour move went well
I’m a introvert and I love to avoid conversations that’s simply not needed so this is great.
i am a photographer and wouldve charged uhaul 50 bucks for making me take all the photos.
Wow, super helpful ... now you've got me reconsidering a truck instead of the U boxes for my move. A lot of really good information in this video. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, this curred my anxiety about this process.
Hope the moving goes well, Kia!

Did they ask for passport when you were dropping the uhaul off?
Renting this exact model van soon. I’ll be going in but kudos to U-Haul for creating another option.
Thanks for the video!! We’re using this today for moving and wanted a step by step video for it. Great job
My pleasure! Hope it helped!
Thanks for the video! I had to pick my truck up this morning and your video was really helpful to know what to expect.
Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this!
Nancy Is a total ROCK STAR!!!
Thx! Excellent video! Now I feel more confident to do my first 24/7 U-Haul pick-up. Appreciate it!
This shit is more inconvenient than just going to the counter for pickup and dropping it off!
@arrowguy173 Why so defensive? He has an opinion as well. You’re just as guilty putting him down.
This was helpful! Uhaul's website doesn't have sufficient information
you have no idea. ive worked here 6 years and this video was more informative than our training material. smh
@@WhoIsElKabong girl I’m watching this as a uhaul employee as well and I learned so much 😂😂😂
Did this last night ! Pretty interesting way of picking up a U-Haul van!
Did they make you do the "meaningful insurance" part where they call a contact of yours? I'm picking mine up at 12:30AM so I'm concerned about that...
@@lukegodbold6696 lol they actually did do this. They needed 2 contacts but they just made a quick call to them making sure you’re legit lol

Great video. I wish I had watched before I went through all this myself. I felt like it took alot longer than it would have just going to the counter.

Thanks for posting.
Why wouldnt uhaul provide a video as detailed.
Will be picking mine up in 2 days! Wish me luck lol
Excellent video, wow. They should hire you for training materials.
Wow, thank you!
Thanks...very helpful. Your mobile ended up being much faster than mine. I ended up closing/ending with the person face to face.
Yes always better to just go inside unless you are picking up after hours
seems like too many steps to process online, id rather go to their service point
This helped me a lot im moving next week thank you haha

thanks for this video
what about the 2021 app can you use that to do the moible self service? I'm guessing they may have updated it since 2018

You should do more Uhaul videos
Where did you leave your car
Thanks for the helpful video. Do you need to make a reservation first online before you can pick up the vehicle?
Will the pickup option shows up only if you are at tye truck location?
The lesson: do this the old fashioned way instead of through the app 🤣
