Same with Ukitake and Kyoraku, that's why he resorted to using his complete hypnosis. But even then that didn't work 100% on Unohana in the beginning. Aizen wasn't dumb he knew for a fact there were captains he couldn't take out. Because at the end of the day he wasn't the strongest....yet. That's why he had to use his intelligence.

Unohana went to great lengths to completely erase her past as the first kenpachi. Very few people actually knew who she was and what she was capable of and she made sure to keep it that way. Chances are, that copy of hers was made with incomplete data and was weaker than the real deal.
Every time Unohana or Byakuya unloads with the Kidou, I swear it's like a more dangerous version of two top-tier people playing a lethal game of Yu-Gi-Oh.
Unohana is probably the strongest captain behind Yamamoto and Aizen. She is able to use the high kidou tecniques without incantation, while also being the best healer out there, while also mastered kendo in a simillar fashion to Yamamoto with his own Kendo tecniques. The girl was probably thousands of years old (after all, she came into the Gotei 13 at the same time Yamamoto did), so it isn't that surprisining to think she is top of the power tierlist.
I don't know much but Is she stronger than Kyoraku and Ukitake.. If I remember correctly Kyoraku was supposed to be strongest after Yamamoto and Yama saw these two are absolute best. Didn't Kyoraku become Leader of SS as well.

Also, while Kyoraku did become Captain-Commander, that doesn't nessesarily have anything to do with strength, more so decision making, leadership, etc. Sadly, we didn't really get to understand what Unohana's bankai is. We know she is the best kendo user in SS, having mastered thousands of sword styles. She's a prodigy when it comes to Kidō, and is one of the best healers in SS. Besides that, not much is known. She was the first Kenpachi, and killed Zaraki like a thousand times, so she's pretty strong at least. If not stronger than Kyoraku, then right behind.

I've never seen her serious or agressive which makes it pretty creepy lol

Also, you obviously haven't seen the Zaraki vs Unohana fight if you say you haven't seen her serious or aggressive. She also definitely has the most combat experience out of any of the captains.

I love how unohana remains unphased and emotionless throughout the whole 23 sec battle. Seems like she's barely putting in effort to use bakudo or hado which normally would were someone out using such high levels of bakudo and hado
Her combat prowess is also S+ tier, but she hides it. Overall, she probably rivals even Yamamoto. One of the few characters that can in the entire series besides Aizen, Yhwach, Ichigo (near the end), Urahara (maybe), and Zaraki (near the end).
The fact the the real unohana can fight against the reigai unohana at par is awesome just shows you how strong she is....i just hope the final arc of bleach gets animated i want to see unohanas bankai animated and her fight with a certain someone ^__^ hahaha

Her Bankai was revealed to be horrid in the fight versus Zaraki, Shinosuini Minzaki, End all Things, And be Reborn anew in the Twilight, In short to make Zaraki take the mental blocks off his mind he put when he first fought her, She killed him hundreds of times then healed him and killed him again until he feared not even death, She how ever didnt fight to her full potential not using Kidou and or etc, Just sword skill, A fight which they both savored and enjoyed, Until finally Zaraki became stronger than she and she allowed him to finally kill her, Dropping his sword he caught her as she supposedly died, and hollering out, Its sad really, Its a story to me of love, The love of the art of kendo sword fighting, Fighting in general, brought these two closer together, The fun the love, and the thrill, To me they were the perfect couple....... I find perfectly in character for Unohana to use kido despite her being the original Squad 11 Captain of a squad that resents Kido. Nonetheless, the Kenpachi she easily defeated was at the level of the killer of two Stern Ritter and wounded Juha Bach. She cut him down like he was nothing. More so she defeated him countless times and revived him without ever releasing her shikai; one must note that each time he was defeated he became stronger and she weaker from losing reatsu. I believe she is slightly below Yama and now on par with Kenpachi (if he masters Bankai).
I know this is 9 years ago, well lemme add a comment. Unohana herself admitted defeat against zaraki when they first battled. Zaraki almost won the fight, yet he stumbled to the ground, admitting defeat. Zaraki is so enthrilled into the battle, that he's afraid to win over unohana, the only swordsman to ever fight on par with him and give him the happiness in swinging his sword. Unohana knew this, and she knows that zaraki is still holding back a little while fighting her. That's why she said that zaraki is the real kenpachi.

If you have read the manga shunsui refers to her as 'daisempai' which means first student under the sensei. Which means she is the second strongest captain.
She fired a Hado 88 similar to the Former Kido Corps Commander firing his at Aizen and blocked it with A Danku no incantation which means her Kido casting ability is likely around Kido Corps Commander / Aizen level

I find perfectly in character for Unohana to use kido despite her being the original Squad 11 Captain of a squad that resents Kido. She was not one for honor and as she states, she's willing to be underhanded to win a fight and Kido would certainly be used as a result. She's certainly a testament to the times at how the Gotei 13 changed from a bloodthirsty, win at any cost group to a soft hearted, peace loving, and honorable organization. I personally don't find that a weakness,

Nonetheless, the Kenpachi she easily defeated was at the level of the killer of two Stern Ritter and wounded Juha Bach. She cut him down like he was nothing. More so she defeated him countless times and revived him without ever releasing her shikai; one must note that each time he was defeated he became stronger and she weaker from losing reatsu. I believe she is slightly below Yama and now on par with Kenpachi (if he masters Bankai).
I know this is 9 years ago, well lemme add a comment. Unohana herself admitted defeat against zaraki when they first battled. Zaraki almost won the fight, yet he stumbled to the ground, admitting defeat. Zaraki is so enthrilled into the battle, that he's afraid to win over unohana, the only swordsman to ever fight on par with him and give him the happiness in swinging his sword. Unohana knew this, and she knows that zaraki is still holding back a little while fighting her. That's why she said that zaraki is the real kenpachi.

If you have read the manga shunsui refers to her as 'daisempai' which means first student under the sensei. Which means she is the second strongest captain.

@TheFawziAsraf I say Jiyu because in order for them to say Jyu they have to apply these together じ + ゆ, so the sound comes out as Jyu or ju if they use the u instead of yu ;)
