Try check your Catalytic converter? That’s the same problem I had with my ‘04 Matrix. But first things first, start by replacing the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) Sensor.

Sorry bro, I just got done replacing master and slave plus mwr light flywheel stage 1 clutch so that set me back $2k but I'm prepping for mwr motor.

I had to replace factory water pump at 140k. It was leaking but didn't overheat yet. Toyota did it
