Huge Difference. OEM isn’t cheap but they are built to last forever if u take care of them. Those cheap carbs will literally chip away and shavings will get into your carb. The bolts and jets will strip and snap in half. Also, when you buy carb repair kits( jets) get the OEM ones for 30.00 instead of the cheap 9.00 ones.
I've had to replace the stock mikuni carb on my ATV (arctic cat 500 from 2000) since some jackass put oily sticky axle grease on the air filter which when it sat for 3/4 years it sealed the entire floatbowl shut. So I had to get a aftermarket carb lesson learned don't buy cheap carburators from ebay. Amazon has legitimate suppliers with working carbs ready to ship.
I have 2 Honda TLR 250 trials bikes, i decided to buy a replacement carby, i purchased a Sheng Wey which is Taiwanese made, a LOT better than chinese made !! The Sheng Wey is basically exactly the same as genuine Honda, the oem jets, slide, float etc are all interchangeable, my bikes fantastically, i'm very happy with the carby's !
@@TheDadBodWorkshop I bought the first 1 about 3 yrs ago & was so impressed, i bought another 1 about 6mths latter. Pretty sure it was about $60us plus about $10 shipping ?

I MYSELF GOT THE SAME CARB. IT STARTED AND IDLED GREAT. I WAS VERY HAPPY UNTIL PUTTING UNDER A LOAD AND I'M SURE IT GOT REAL LEAN. IT WOULD BASICALLY DIED AFTER 1/4+ THROTTLEI TRIED DRILLING THE MAIN JET JUST A BIT LARGER AND THAT TURNED OUT TO MAKE NOT EVEN HARDLY START. I GOT ANOTHER CARB FROM AMAZON AND IT LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD BE GOOD, BUT IT WOULD HARDLY START AND WAS REALLY WAS WORSE. I HAVE PONIED UP FOR FACTORY CARB.. NOT INSTALLED BUT MAYBE ILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT WORKS. THE FACTORY CARB HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE I GOT MY TTR90 WITH SOME PERFORMANCE SET UP BUT THE AIR FILTER ALLOWED DIRT INTO THE ENGINE AND I HAD TO REBORE THE CYLINDER AND REPLACE THE PISTON. SO FARE I AM NOT PLEASED WITH THE CHINESE CARBS FOR THIS BIKE. THEY ARE PROLLY FINDING CHEAPER AND CHEAPER SUPPLIERS AND JUST NO QC.
You know these carbs don’t just bolt on. They do need to be jetted for your application unless they state they are for your EXACT model and year of bike. It sounds like you needed your needle jet raised or maybe a bigger main jet.
Autokay. At the very beginning of the video I actually posted a screenshot of the carb I used. It's been a year now and the carb is still working great. Thanks for watching!
Have you tried spraying a little starter fluid into it? That's a good way to determine if it's carb or something else. If it starts for a few seconds and dies then the problem exists in the carb. If it doesn't start at all then it something else. As far as how to fine tune these carbs I'm not sure... I have been pretty unsuccessful at tuning this one I had. Thanks for watching, sorry I couldn't be of more help!
If it’ll run for a second on starting fluid then you need to clean your carb. No amount of screwing with the air screw will make it run if the plot jet and main jet is clogged.
@@TheDadBodWorkshop Amazon is better, ebay has a problem with bad carburators and needle valve not sealing thus gas leaking everywhere. Amazon has more legitimate suppliers.
I noticed the after market carbs do not have the heater connection. Is it absolutely necessary to have this? Also, is there another Yamaha model that uses the same parts as the TTR90? Parts for the TTR90 are not easy to find.
no, you don't need the heater connection. I used one of these carbs on my ttr90 it works fine without the fuel heater. The fuel heater wires will spark if they ground out so dot just let them hang.. I found out the hard way.
bought 2 cheapos from ebay both rubbish bike would never run right managed to get a second hand original bike has run perfect for the last couple of years
Thanks for your input! I've had good luck with the cheap carbs as long as they're a basic carb and don't require things like power valves or accelerator pumps. But I try to go OEM or big name brand for anything beyond a basic carb.

@@orangelightproductions2418 why fo they do that with the grease? I found some grease in the airbox of a quad i bought
@@JMASON-qy7ki it's common to put grease around the rim of the air filter/airbox, but it's supposed to be a thin layer on the rim only

Pilot Jet has nothing to do with the electric start
@@silkcustoms520 what? Yes it absolutely does. It may run on choke but a clogged pilot will definitely affect how it runs. Especially at idle.

Why is the Mikuni logo also on the Chinese carb?
It's possible it was originally a mukini carb and now has been remanufactured.
Good tip
