At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Notice her little sister crossing her fingers as the performance starts. Later her mother wiped tears from her eyes and then again crosses her fingers before Howie speaks.. With all the weight of the world on her shoulders to perform in front of a USA audience and a worldwide audience viewing it on tv she handled the pressure as if there was none at all. So much to talk about but one of her qualities to point out is rather than sing to us, she sings 'for us'. Her voice is a once-in-a-forever quality and her artistic achievements can only be described as one of a genius. People in the music industry are in total awe of her and what makes it even more special, she is a wonderful human being, humble, kind, caring and loving and all of that comes through when we listen to her sing 'for us'.
