In DC they'd never let the real batman be evil (brainwashed or magic or whatever) more than five second so instead the failsafe becomes a problem.
Zur represents Bruce's worst self tho. Like, they've turned his worst qualities into a character that he has to fight. Evil Batman has been done, but this is "The Good Batman's Flaws turned into a Person".

And while I like it, the Zur Batman plot is for some reason not well-liked, though my sources on that come from this channel, so I think their influence has something to do with that. Chip Zdarsky's work on Batman has been the best since Scott Snyder in the New 52 imo.

Catwoman's attempt to re-educate and control criminals was born of a pure intention and I can't fault her for it, but Bruce (and Jason) were both right about how teaching the goons to be more effective and arming them would backfire. The Cat got results but the Bat had valid concerns. I think Bruce brainwashing Jason makes sense given his current mental state and the greater plot of the Zdarsky arc because it's supposed to go over the line, but it would be out of character in normal circumstances. The familial drama between Bruce's past abusive actions, each of which were born of distrust and a delusional grandiose sense of self-competence, is also a relevant thing to bring up during Bruce's Zur arc, even though we are all tired of seeing that side of him. My hope is that this storyline caps off all of the evil Batman tropes we've gotten by forcing Bruce to see his flaws clearly, and having him reflect on all of it so that he becomes a better father and a better Batman. This threat came about because of his distrust and paranoia, and he is responsible for creating a lot of the problems the DCU is currently facing. He needs to see it and change to move forward.

Where have you been since 2002. That's literally the only thing that makes sense to have fooled them. Zur is purely batman. His entire existence is because Bruce is Bruce first and batman second. Zur is there because he thinks Bruce should be all batman. Batman: Ego proves this. Fugitive proves this. Even failsafe the first arc of this run proves this. In fact The Batman had Bruce's arc be to realize that. Batman beyond is the only timeline where he's batman first and look where he ends up. Alone

Nygma has known since Batman: Hush in New Earth Continuity and I think since Zero Year in Prime Earth Continuity (If not, then at least since the Hush story's equivalent). Joker has known since Bruce revealed it to him as depicted in Batman: Death of the Family. Savage is Savage and is friends with Ra's Al Ghul, as well as other immortals and specialists that Bruce trained under. Of course he'd know.

I don't think it needs a retcon. We've found out that Zur was Driving Bruce's actions this entire time, hence their showdown in "Mind Bomb". This storyline is taking the worst of Batman and putting it in front of him. He's literally got to fight and overcome his worst self in this story, and that will hopefully involve seeing that the way he treats Jason is wrong. Chip Zdarsky is the one that characterized Jason really well in Gotham War, and he's the one that wrote Bruce's brainwashing in. I trust that he'll resolve it too.

Zur en Ar is Bruce Wayne/Batman's split personality he created in case he ever got mind controlled, this persona however spiraled out of control, creating Failsafe in the first place and some time after beating Failsafe uploading his consciousness to it to tale Bruce Wayne place as Batman Permanently. Zur doesn't kill or anything and he does have a heart but his methods to help others are too controlling he is effectively a Batman dedicated only to the mission. And he would even leave the Robins and his Bruce Wayne persona entirely to remain Batman 24/7

You have a really wired point to jump intro this story, so here is what you need to know: Alfred is dead. He was killed by Bane and Batman, along with a majority of the Bat family blamed Damien Wayne for it happening. Bruce Wayne is no longer a billionaire. He is only a millionaire due to the Joker taking over Wayne enterprises during the Joker War. Batman built a robot to counter himself called Failsafe. It was made in order to stop Batman if he ever went rouge. Batman was revealed to have a mental version of himself as a final resort to use if he had to not hold back anymore (Zur). Failsafe was activated when people thought that Batman had killed Penguin. The robot took down most of the Bat family and the Justice League before sending Batman into the multiverse. Batman met Red Mask, an alternative version of the Joker who was trying to find the orgins of the Joker in the multiverse. The problem was that every time he entered a universe where the Joker was never a threat or had already been stopped for good, his presence reawakened the Joker. So Batman fought Red Mask across the multiverse (Dark Knight Returns, DCAU, Injustice, Arkham, Etc.) and lost his hand! He beat Red Mask and was rescued by Tim Drake, but it had been 8 months since he was gone, and in that time, Catwoman had stepped up and created a network for thieves that stole from the rich to give to the poor and had convinced the Bat family to go along with it. Batman wasn't happy with this but was willing to give it a try and then one of these thieves killed someone and Catwoman tried to cover it up and Batman then told her to disbanded and get out of Gotham, she refused and set the Bat family on him. He let Zur out to fight them, and he was pretty burtal with them, so Nightwing removed Batman's access to the Bat family resources. It was then revealed that Joker was back as he wanted to fight Zur Batman, so he called out Batman, but Bruce was able to suppress the Zur side of him before it killed the Joker but passed out when woke up he found out Zur had transferred itself into Failsafe then he locked him and Joker under Blackgate. Seriously, they side with Catwoman during the Gotham War, knowing that she covered up a bunch of deaths done by her merry band and then acted all shocked and hurt that Batman went Zur on them! My opinion on this run by Chip Zdarsky is that it's OK, nothing to spectacular, but it had some great moments and some interesting ideas. Joker year 1 and the man who stopped laughing were fun reads Honestly, they are some of the few comics I am reading. The others being Worlds Finest and TMNT Last Ronin II, I have lost touch with other like X-men really since Swords of X happened and the same with Thor/Hulk after Banner of War. I actually dropped Spider-Man a while ago, around Red Goblin, and completely missed King in Black and Gold Goblin. So I when I tried to get back into Spider-Man, I picked the worst time ever as PAUL RABIN, Mr 'I am a mass murderer but it's OK since its just like Peter’s guilt over Uncle Ben' seriously what the hell was Marvel thinking!

I've had a new idea for Batman for a while now. We all know that Batman's current method simply doesn't work. He beats up the bad guys, they get sent to Arkham, and a week later they're back on the street terrorizing the people of Gotham. It's not very effective is it? Now you could have Batman start killing mfers but then you get the Snyderverse Batman and look how that turned out. What I'm proposing is an alternative form of crime fighting that not only stops violence, cuts down on destruction of public property, but also targets the socioeconomic and political issues that plague Gotham City by deterring criminals. And that is...he grapes them. Yes I know it's controversial, but here me out. Crime in Gotham City would be down 500% the first week when word got out that Batman is forcibly f'n criminals up the butt. Guys like the Joker and Riddler would simply give up their life of crime forever. Commissioner Gordon would be like "Why'd you turn yourself in, Joker?" and Joker would be like "I...don't want to talk about it. 😟" Batman would get a hold of Riddler and be like "Riddle me this. What's Black, Green, and walks with a limp?" Gotham City would be a utter utopia! DC would have to stop publishing Batman comics because there'd be no more criminal element.

My opinion on this run by Chip Zdarsky is that it's OK, nothing to spectacular, but it had some great moments and some interesting ideas. Joker year 1 and the man who stopped laughing were fun reads
Honestly, they are some of the few comics I am reading. The others being Worlds Finest and TMNT Last Ronin II, I have lost touch with other like X-men really since Swords of X happened and the same with Thor/Hulk after Banner of War.
I actually dropped Spider-Man a while ago, around Red Goblin, and completely missed King in Black and Gold Goblin. So I when I tried to get back into Spider-Man, I picked the worst time ever as PAUL RABIN, Mr 'I am a mass murderer but it's OK since its just like Peter’s guilt over Uncle Ben' seriously what the hell was Marvel thinking!

@@zacharybosley1935 Considering how Terminator didn't have as much staying power beyond it's initial run, and how the later movies turned out. I'd VERY much say it is boss. Especially when the batman IP was never about it to begin with. :/

I've had a new idea for Batman for a while now. We all know that Batman's current method simply doesn't work. He beats up the bad guys, they get sent to Arkham, and a week later they're back on the street terrorizing the people of Gotham. It's not very effective is it? Now you could have Batman start killing mfers but then you get the Snyderverse Batman and look how that turned out.
What I'm proposing is an alternative form of crime fighting that not only stops violence, cuts down on destruction of public property, but also targets the socioeconomic and political issues that plague Gotham City by deterring criminals. And that is...he grapes them. Yes I know it's controversial, but here me out. Crime in Gotham City would be down 500% the first week when word got out that Batman is forcibly f'n criminals up the butt. Guys like the Joker and Riddler would simply give up their life of crime forever. Commissioner Gordon would be like "Why'd you turn yourself in, Joker?" and Joker would be like "I...don't want to talk about it. 😟" Batman would get a hold of Riddler and be like "Riddle me this. What's Black, Green, and walks with a limp?" Gotham City would be a utter utopia! DC would have to stop publishing Batman comics because there'd be no more criminal element.
