Former South African President PW Botha on Thursday (16/4) attacked the decision by magistrate Victor Lugaju to postpone his trial until June 1.
Botha is charged with contempt of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) after ignoring a subpoena to appear before the truth panel at a public hearing in December.

@@angrysocialjusticewarrior You've been hoodwink, what PW stood for was that every Tribe was given an equal chance. The reason the Majority was behind is that they were mainly in the Rural Areas. That wasn't by White design, we only declared areas as Homelands as that tribe was the Majority there. Group Areas was declared to protect the White Culture as the infrastructure in those areas couldn't support an invasion from the Rural areas. Look at the vast squatter city's and the unemployment, that's what we tried to prevent.

Very few people told the truth at the TRC. There was no truth and little to no reconciliation. A group of ex-cadres wanted to sue the ANC for the torture they were forced to endure in the camps across Africa but were barred from voicing their complaints and totally ignored by Mandela.
Botha did nothing wrong.

There is still a sort of segregation, however it is not imposed by law. Which means in a nutshell (and we both believe the same) that different cultures cannot get along. There is no such thing as integration and mutual understanding. I think De klerk didn't change his mind when he got to power back in 1989 ,he just followed imposed orders from high. He was a staunch proponet of status quo, but the cold war came to an end, and the international communty imposed sanctions and so on leading to a dramatic change.
I guess the afrikaners should have kept power, but outlawing apartheid. By doing so, the country wouldn't have fallen apart and people stayed their own way in their own communities and all that follows. The big mistake was granting power to local bantus who are mostly corrupt and incompetent.

He bombed our capital in 1985 and 1986 because of our support for South African liberation movements. He made all kinds of threats to my country (Botswana) to try to force us to give him support on the world stage.
One thing about international pariahs is that they crave moral legitimacy. I'm sure he and his government would have loved to point at us and say "see, even the blacks support us!" But that's one thing we were never, ever going to give them, and never did.

Having lived there under his presidency, although not South African, I can say he was no saint but he had the best interests of the country at heart. Your parents are certainly welcome to their opinion and it was shared by many. One colleague (white South African of a certain ethnicity)who was very vocal in this regard went on to vote for the ANC while planning their family's escape to the UK. Quite happy to leave those who had no hope of getting out to live under communists but not prepared to do so themselves. Early versions of the woke.
