    Biggest point for me with having a motorised slider is the fact I don't need to be holding the gimbal/camera. I can create some cool and interesting shots of my work as I'm doing it, and that's the biggest win for me.

    Sam, thanks for this. An old acquaintance contacted me, brought one of these over. he had purchased it and then never even took it out of the box, and had moved on, and just GAVE it to me!
    So I have a couple of upcoming jobs, just unpacked, found your video and have set it up. The referral for the support arms much appreciated, they will be here in two days, one day before the first shoot. This thing is so smooth, love it. Thanks again from a new subscriber.

    Did you do or have to do any image stabilization in post production? Like warp stabilization in Adobe Premiere?
    EDIT: Do you recommend the version with aluminum rails instead of carbon fiber? I've had experience using CF vs alum in other camera equipment like tripods, but not on a slider. Generally CF is lighter so less strenuous when carrying, but aluminum should provide a more stable movement?? Your thoughts?

    Remember to weight down your tripod (and/or lighting support) legs if it is the least tippy. I use sandbags from a pair of wrist weight belts that are never used. Each bag is just 1 pound and three of them will weight down a tripod plenty. Cheap and easy solution.

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Brian. To be honest, it kind of comes down to how much you can spend on it. I really wanted the Rhino slider but it would have cost me about £1200 at the time. I decided to go for the GVM at around £300 which was much better for me as a beginner and I still use it today. Can’t go wrong with it. The quality isn’t as good and it’s not as sturdy BUT it gets the job done for me. I hope that helps.

    GVM sliders are horrible. I've tried 2 of them and they both failed miserably. Build quality was sub-par and their advertised "wireless" functionality isn't wireless at all. Then there's the fact that when you try to contact their support via email (which is someone's personal inbox), you get a bounce back stating the the email address does not exist. The support phone number isn't any better. Calling it routes you to a Google voicemail box telling you that "Mike" (or whatever) is not available. I highly recommend people stay away from this brand until they get their act together.

    I don't have this exact slider, but one that works in the same way mechanically (with the adjustable rod in the middle) and it is great for shots moving side to side, but I found that the big flaw with the design is doing a push in/pull out shot where the camera is facing one of the ends. The rod and mechanism under the sliding plate make it impossible for the camera to stay perfectly straight the entire time. You end up getting a push in/pull out where the camera is panning back and forth ever so slightly and it completely ruins it. Again, very good for side to side parallax shots, but not very versatile.

    I added this GVM slider ($369) and the support arms ($73) to my amazon list on top of the BMPCC4K, Meike 25mm Cine lens, DJI Ronin S, and a $108 heavy duty tripod-- had to delete the Tilta nucleus wireless follow focus to get slider -- but idk if i'll be screwed pulling focus without it using just lens MF ring while it's on the ronin or slider :/ i also got rid of my 7" monitor too 😭

    Hey I just bought a Zeapon Axis 120 which is very noisy when it brakes ans accelerates again in another way. This GVM is very noisy too. So I can't use it for an interview. Do you know one motorized slider that is very slient? A one which can be used when guests are close during an interview. Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Hi Sam I just purchased the slider on Amazon directly from your link in your UA-cam video, but it has arrived and it’s the GT-60D and not the G80 QD that you describe in the video! Mine doesn’t look as fancy as yours and apparently you need to buy a shutter release cable as well to be able to use it, is this correct?

  • @pacificostudios

    I just ordered one of these. I am going to use it for one-person pieces to camera in my bedroom studio, as a second camera, initially, but I think almost any indie film should use a second camera on a motorized slider while shooting the main footage. Remember to also use a clapperboard to help you can sync sound with your auxiliary camera.
    I think the key to using a budget motorized slider is to use a lightweight camera. I have a Canon HRF 800 camcorder that shoots 1080p and doesn't weigh much more than the battery that powers it, and it was about $250 new. I know that such a light camera will not strain the motor, cause excessive wear of the traction belt or cause excessive noise. I suspect many complaints about budget motorized sliders are from people who demand too much from a piece of kit that costs less than a telephoto lens.

    Hello Sam! After watching your video I decided to buy the GVM slider, but when i got it, it was't what I expected (too much trepidation) I ended up buying a Noxon Mod Slider and couldn't be hapier.
