Lasers are cool and all but what I'm more interested in is plasma based weapons. Most of the "laser" weapons you see in movies and games are actually more like a plasma system, not a laser.
+James Gun That's not how physics works. You'd need to put in energy to make the gas plasma, and if you're just going to take the energy back out, why put the energy in?

Laser beams are usually invisible, so will look nothing like as cool as they do in science fiction movies and TV shows.
I think a number of writers cottoned onto this which is why they started giving these weapons names like 'blaster' or 'phaser' instead.

Lasers can also carry information and therefore be used as a means of secure communication.
Invisible ammunition. That would just suck. If the military ever builds a laser powerful enough to kill on contact and puts it in a rife. At least have the audacity to color the laser so we can all see it.
To everyone going on about plasma weapons, you need to google the terms "Future war stories plasma" and read the first link. Plasma is not a good candidate for weaponization IRL, even though it's fun in fictionalized movies and TV shows. In summary, its range is too short if it isn't contained, and if any container is used, then you might as well just use a bullet or an explosive shell.

Once you work out the propulsion system ballistic weapons can work just fine. Lasers diffuse over range. The most likely answer is spacecraft will have multiple weapons if not multiple WMD options on board.

These are better, because they can be used for anything, and the never run out of ammo and carry alot of ammo. This is based off of metroid series
Energy Weapons
They are not projectile free, they use tesla ark tecknology/wireless energy technology. The projectiles are the right build and meterial. They need an apprioprate sized magnetic feild to help support there own atmosphere anywhere. And the projectiles fly back to the weapon at the end using a specific magnetic feild frequency to draw them in. The harder the weapon the softer the bullet. This doesnt mean you make your weapon so hard that you cant hold it. So the bullet needs something to create sparks around it inside the atmosphere. It will look like a flame and have sparks when fired. The sparks are what makes the flame. The flame doesnt ruin the bullet either. The differential between the metal of the weapon itself and the bullet will keep a spark from connecting the two and also ensure the bullet stays powered. So an appropriate sized tesla ark with an apprioprate sized magnetic feild. And the bullet is appropriate metal with right type of metals and magnetic feild. The reason there wont be a spark connecting the two is because they will be apprioprate to each other, i cant stress this enough. You take a high level conducting tesla ark and supply it with electricity and no sparks will fly off from it. Based on that weapon you make an appropiate sized bullet and it will only recieve enough power to do what it has to do and not connect. The magnetic feild for your bullet and weapon will help the two from connecting, however you will need to upscale the power of the wireless energy a bit. So your weapon will need to create an atmosphere or your bullet wont work. So that way your bullet has an atmosphere before it leaves the weapon. The bullet size could be small like really small like almost microscopic. So the bullets are kept in a liquid nitrogen/cold container so that way it changes there resistance enough so it keeps unnecessary wireless contact from happening before they are fired. It might need a power upscaler just use a circuit that involves even softer metals. The bullet is accelerated magnetically and at the end of the weapon the bullet gets reheated the right amount to allow the wireless energy to start to work. Since the bullet will get hotter once it recieves wireless energy, you might need to downscale a certain percentage on the wireless energy or upscale the metals of the bullet. So itll be a huge ball of energy that burns right through stuff. The main advantage to this is if scaled right it could penetrate power armor. Its a huge ratio. Best part about it this weapon could also be used as a taser an energy weapon and a normal weapon and the bullets could be made specifically for different uses
SO IN THE END OF EVERYTHING THERE IS NO SPARK TRAILS CONNECTING BETWEEN ANYTHING IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Its really hard imagining a world where everything is run off of wireless energy.

We could just use a series of multiple convex lenses attached to a light source and the lenses would amplify the energy enough to cause damage.
Will mirrors be the future armor?
With the laser-armed UAVs, I wonder if they could become competitive with fighters? Sure, the UAV is far less maneuverable and far, far slow, but if it simply destroys all incoming AAMs before they reach it, and then goes after the vulnerable bits of a fighter (such as the pilot), it might be able to unstoppably plow through waves of fighters.
I am of the personal opinion that lasers will be limited to targeting, interception, and little else of military value. Rail guns are more promising, but we still have a long way to go to perfect them. Guided, and explosive bullets are also more likely than lasers for a given application. The weapons of the future will be much like the ones we have now. Just smaller, faster, more accurate, with greater effect on a specific target. Though this depends on what manner of engagements the future has in store for us.

But, what happens when its stormy, or cloudy, would the laser be able to get through the storm? What if the missile is spinning, like most eastern missiles, wouldn't the laser not be able to focus a ray long enough to blow it up?

I watched the video but before I watched I answered "No." to the question asked "Are lasers the weapons of the future?"
After watching the answer is still a resounding No.
There are far more effective weapons with way more punch than lasers and I'm not talking about any conventional weapons which excludes all of these: bullets, bombs, bomblets, rockets, missiles and chemical reactions.
Imagine a machine able to execute any target even outside of visual range without being seen or heard eliminating targets immediately after they are identified! Yep, it's possible.

i don't believe lasers are the weapon of the future, or at least not the primary weapon of the future. Projectiles in my opinion will always be better, lasers can't penetrate and lasers can't explode causing a shock wave for widespread damage. Lasers can accurately burn and melt things but they can't penetrate through metal hitting more than one object, and they can't tear metal apart. Please correct me if i am wrong, but don't correct me if you're a star wars loving laser nerd who just wants argue cause lasers are their babies. they are only good for certain things and not for things like tank war fare, nothing like star wars and any other sci-fi laser use will ever happen. However don't get me wrong, they have uses, the point i am trying to make is that there will be no laser tanks, laser rifles, or laser air craft, if they are equipt with lasers, it will be for a specific use in combat as a defensive or secondary weapon.
Edit: before someone yells the word "plasma", i count Plasma as a projectile as it is not a wave like light based weapons, but i don't think plasma has any of the benefits explosives bring, but to be fair i don't know much about the destructive uses for plasma, only that it is an ionized particle and called the fourth state of matter.
