As a reader of the light novels, this ending shocked me. In the light novel Joe ended up shooting diesel instead of the blood frame. He beat Toxic and saved Neo Otaku city but vowed to bring back Diesel with the Dragon balls, setting up the 3rd light novel. But they decided to go away form the source material and do there own thing.
Yeah but then there was chapter 16.5, that's where it kinda went off the rails a bit.
Maybe they'll ignore the ending in season 3 like season 2 of Blue exorcist. Too bad the manga is so far behind as with all light novel manga adaptations. Its too much trouble finding good light novel translations online

Diesel took the blood for a very plot-specific reason, it just happens that TOXIC foiled her plan to use it. the result was unfortunate but it was taken for a well-intended purpose - which is probably why no one really says anything about it being done for no reason.
Diesel's "NO-O-O-O-O-OO-OOO-OOOO!!!" said it all!

This show truly is, none other than a timeless masterpiece. Everyone involved in this production did an absolutely fantastic job, and it is heartbreaking to hear that a 3rd season will never happen. In the beginning, it was just a silly skit. The adventures of Joe and the wannabe-aboo. and as the ship set sail, we also watched the story slowly develop into a true masterpiece. The subtle character development in each and every episode that led up to this absolute sensation of a finale, and the underlying anime references that only 30% of the audience understood made this show truly feel like a 13 episode anime saga. Every cliffhanger and plot twist had me on the edge of my seat, yearning for more ACD. Furthermore, the comedic side of this show was outstanding. The endless amount of memes and references had me chortling like a fat king to his jester, eyes teary with a chalice of ale. It truly was a luxury to be able to witness this show within my lifetime. The true message of this series also reaches out to those of us who are scared to be weeaboos. It beautifully portrayed the message that anime is for everyone. It shows that although we are all weebs, outcasts of society who nobody understands, we have a place where we can feel safe: in the presence of our own kind. The show speaks to us, telling us to be proud to be a weeb, regardless of if we are subbers or dubbers. The show itself is an artistic feat of excellence. The actors are amazing, showing us in each broken smile to each awkward stare, their feelings and emotions of which they pour out into their acting. Shout out to Sung-Won in the finale, his Super Saiyan powerup truly felt like I was watching dragon ball z (as in the powerup took up half the episode). I have watched the series at least 6 times, and it never gets old.

Can we talk about the way this series is shot? Especially during the transition from anime to tv drama, then back. In the beginning of the season, it's shot normally, like anime would be, then as Joe starts to hate anime more and more it transitions into a tv drama style, then when Joe is powering up, it goes back. Outstanding

As goofy as this show was I loved how they used Mob Psycho 100's % bar and Dragon Ball's meter level at the end and going Super Saiyan on Joe. That built up overwhelming emotions within me and brought me to tears at the end of this episode. Well done RocketJump you have done something that few anime are able to do to me.

...I've spent several days on sabbatical after the conclusion of this show.
Make no mistake, *this is a completely anime-original ending.*
The anime chose to end on its own terms, and I respect that.
What i find most interesting is the amount of elements they pulled from the later continuities of the light novel, while I find most underwhelming is the utilization of these plot elements in this original anime ending.
A quick rundown on what the anime used and how they would've turned out in the later volumes:
• Joe's coat comes from the later arcs in the light novel.
• The kid who appears in the ending of the anime didn't do so. Instead, she appeared in some more cases, including the illegal animal-splicing transmutation incident, where she would've been the victim of the serial killer invoking saddest anime deaths... good thing Joe intervened.
• The anime throttling incident is based on the Anime Skytree Crash seen in the later volumes of the light novel. Instead of forcing anime under the control of TOXIC, the Skytree Crash would've instead been triggered during a screening of Laputa, when everyone in Neo Otaku City comments the traditional _"Balse!"_
• Hideki's appearance is less of a gratuitous cameo in the light novel, wherein his character was fleshed out more, he had several sidestories (3), and appeared to Joe as some sort of hallucination/spirit guide.
• The circumstances of the serial killer was drastically different from the anime's choice. Fans of the novel note that the villain was infinitely better written as a mad visionary, compared to the one seen here. For one, the original novel set them as completely different characters, and he even had a speech about how modern anime had begun to suck more than ever, and how frustrated he was with both fake and real anime fans, wanting to destroy them all and keep the anime culture for himself.
A pity they had to end so soon, there were some arcs I'd hoped for them to adapt:
• The Figma nation arc.
• Joe's early Academy days.
• The Magical Girl Gang Wars Arc (special thanks to user +Grimrose)
• AMV Alley Holy Grail War
• -The Police Civil War Arc- No. _Officer Vink has died enough._
• The real serial killer's story arc, where the perspective shifts to their being the protagonist.
It feels underwhelming as an adaptation of the original Anime Crimes Division light novel's Fandom Collision Arc (special thanks to user +A Faidh for the term), but it ends with the series' inspiring message:
*_As long as you hold passion for something, your heart shall find the right place._*

Don't do the sub vs dub war all over again that was so season 1.
I feel like this ending was a setup for season 3…especially since Diesel made a joke (ironically) about not getting a 3rd season. However, as it stands, it’s a very melancholy way to end a lighthearted, parody series.
Overall, though, I really enjoyed the series! If by some miracle we get a delayed 3rd season, I’ll definitely tune in to watch it. The world needs more lighthearted humor.
