Its actually scary that Alpha-Go agrees with Shusaku on the kosumi.
It shows how brilliant Shusaku was, the fact that a man from the 1800s was able to find such an excellent move. Sadly it fell out of popularity due to Komi and was considered obsolete, then Alpha-Go was like "Nah, this teenager from the 1800s had it right from the start"
Cause remember, Shusaku was a teenager when he pioneered Kosumi
"AI says Akira you're not alive yet!" Katago bothering Akira even further beyond Sai 😂.
thanks for doing this! i played go for the first time after reading hikaru no go at age 12, i stopped playing for many years and picked it back up about 4 years ago, now i am a tygem 3dan.
thanks hikaru!
thanks yeonwoo!
Dear Yeonwoo, thank you for this very good review. Shusaku did not invent the kosumi move, though, he was the one to use it the most systematically and the most efficiently in go history. According to John Power's book Invincible, The games of Shusaku, the kosumi move can be already found in a 1650s game between Honinbo Sanetsu and Honinbo Doetsu, and in a handful of 19th century games before Shusaku's time, for instance in a 1809 castle game between Inoue Shunsaku and Hayashi Tetsugen Monnyu, or in a 1813 game between Jowa and Gennan Inseki, etc... This shows how go knowledge is a collective work beyond personal genius, across space and time, and now across humans and AI. 😊
I LOVE this game analysis @Go Pro Yeonwoo! Thank you for doing this. I just started learning Go and the video helps me understand more how other players think while they play.
I really appreciate how clean you made the video. The layout is done so well where you can show us the go board, yourself talking, and pictures at the same time. The HnG video clips cut in is great for reference. Fantastic work!
I liked Hikaru no go so much that after watching it i really wanted to become pro in go. In a year i became 1 danand even aplied to study in Korea and was approved, but sadly i didnt have money to fly there, so that dream never came true. I still really love go and watch games from time to time even though i cant bring myself to play anymore, which is a bit sad i guess.
PLAY!!!! go online and beat some people up it will make you feel better!!
keep playing bro

In their next game, Sai actually went all out and destroy Akira.
I'm looking forward to YeonWoo's review on that!
My favorite Go commentator covering my favorite anime. I'm in heaven :)
Thanks for this review, it was so nice!!. It'd be so interesting that you show us more Shusaku's games!!
This vid deserves more view. Understanding top Japanese games from the past is so difficult. This helps a lot. Keep it up!
9:42 - Taisha, famously used by Genan Inseki during the Ear Reddening game. It made Shusaku suffer for most of the game until he played the Ear Reddening move
Thank you!🙏🙇♂️ Such a beautiful video. One on my favorites from now on. It will be great if you can do more studies on old kifu. Now days all I hear is about AI. It is really interesting, amazing, and beautiful when we I find commentary of both worlds, Old Kifu and AI. 👏👏👏👏
👍👍👍👍
very mcuh enjoyed! can't wait to see more hikaru no go reviews!! :D keep it up :D
Thanks Yeonwoo for showing this game! I just recently started watching the Hikaru No Go series , they are so cool :>
Huh? Never saw your channel before, but im glad it got recommended.
You earned a new sub from Mexico. Keep them coming.
Interestingly, Hikaru no Go came out right at the time when komi in Japan was changing from 5.5 to 6.5. (I believe the original manga was before the change, but the anime was just after it.)
Yeah and as I recall Hikaru lost as black in the last game in the manga vs Go Honma by half a point soooooo. .... he actually won?!
Thanks Yeonwoo. Japanese audio as well. Super cool!
Please do a series of this! I love this
It would be cool to see a spiritual successor to HnG with another strong player from the past learning from the new modern ai style
Another interesting idea would be someone from the future with AlphaGo back to the past..
Spirit of Go Seigen
(Dec 2022) - Yes Yeonwoo... please more instructive videos like this using Hikaru no Go. Now I see Go is based on trust between the players.
Thank you, this was beautiful.
Thanks so much. I'm really enjoy the video. Plz do more of Hikaru no go's games.
Very interesting. Thnx!! Also, please review other historic matches. Cheers!!
I enjoyed watching this video :) interesting, fun and hikaru no go nostalgia ㅋㅋㅋ~ merci !
Thank you for the Hikaru no go match review. I enjoyed the anime
Great review ❤
연우프로님 영어도 된다는거 까먹고 있었어요 ㅎㄷㄷ We need more contents like these!
You are awesome 😍 i learned a lot 💪😊
Thanks for mentioning KataGo., which then led to KaTrain. I've been looking for a tool like that for some time now, but i've never come across it before.
nice! right now im stuck at 9-10kyu and thought about studying the old school style. perfekt timing hahaha thanks
I was stuck at exactly that strength too once :) Keep it up
I don't think Shusaku invented that diagonal. He only became famous for it.
Nice. Yes, more please. Thank you.
i'm happy with this video ,when i began Go game i bought the book "invicible the games of shusaku "
wow :O what an amazing game! I would also love to see all the top pros like Shin Jin-seo, Ke Jie etc play against Shusaku, it would be super interesting!
More! Using AI to help analyze games is a great idea.
didn't know the anime used real shusaku game, that's pretty neat
Can you please add review for all another games between Sai and Akira?)
ヒカルの碁が国境を超えて愛されてるのが嬉しい。
秀策についての解説もされていて参考になります。
Nice... Please next review is toya koyo and sai's game. Please....
this fucking soundtrack gets me every time
It’s truly nice to see these great games from the past explained with the aid of AI, even if those games were without komi: thank you!
A player from the past that intrigued me for quite a while is Honinbo Satsugen. Nobody writes about him, although he was the strongest player of his time by far. After a period of “not taking the game seriously” (I don’t know how to describe this properly), Satsugen made sure go became at its top again, being quite strict: probably he wasn’t liked very much, but that doesn’t matter right now after some 250 years. His games with his main rival Shunseki feel quite funny, I couldn’t say whether they are good or bad. Maybe you, with the aid of AI, could shed some light on one of these very old games? Like, I found this game below. Satsugen was 34 years old, so he must have been stronger than the mentioned 1p.

I expect any sort of dan rank in the late 18th century were far and away the strongest players of the time, and there's been quite a bit of rank inflation since.
Who was your favourite side character? I thought the semi-pro classmates Hikaru had were all pretty interesting, especially the dude who left Japan to train.
The american biker!
Mine was Kuwabara sensei.
Ben Balentine there’s an American biker in the series?
@@IcyTorment Well, I was mostly talking about the ones who did pass, but are barely 1st dans. I doubt they'd be able to cover their living expenses fully as fresh graduates.
kaga... just love him
very nice and interesting :)
So fun!
Love the review of old games. Maybe you can also go through some games of Huanglong Shi.
Please make more videos like that
5.5 was komi when the anime aired
좀 배우고 보니 고스트바둑왕도 중간에 과감한 치중시도라든가 테스트로 죽여보라고 마지막에 놓는돌이나 되게 재밌게 다시 봐지네요
Yeonwoo, could you please explain why the komi actually exists? If it's say 6.5 points for white it feels really unfair because black needs to capture 7 more 'squares' to win, it would probably result in a more aggressive and less balanced game. Was the komi added to get this exact competitive type of games?
It's to balance the first move advantage.
Daí sim que essa partida existe de verdade!? 😆
If only they made a quality anime about chess. Now, any mention of chess in anime is bleeding from the ears and eyes.
there are several anime featuring shogi ^^
@@sjs9698 Igo is the most professional game in Japan not chess
If you really want a challenge try going through 中国围棋古谱精解大系. Even I can tell these guys were masters
I wonder what AI says about Shuusaku's ear-reddening move
AI doesn't particularly like it, 5% mistake. Yoda Norimoto also says it is not that amazing of a move (but still a move expected from a strong player). If an AI were to play it, it would have played it about 13 moves later in the game. What made it famous was how much it threw Shusaku's opponent off his rhythm.
Esse anime e incrível eu li o manga e meio raro eu disse isso mais o anime é melhor que o manga
When you say “ai” what ai do you use?
katago
Is that tall guy look like Hao Asakura?
heh, a little bit? (you mean 'sai' right; the ghost with the fan?) idk how old the manga of hikaru or shaman-king are, but i'd guess hng is older...
Le Go, ce n'est pas comme dans Hikaru No Go, c'est comme dans Fullmetal Alchemist : l'échange équivalent.
Why is half
Any chance this character is named after Hikaru Nakamura?
no but funny thought
Is there a Korean player in history who compares to the likes of Dosaku or Huang Longshi?
Japanese audio this time instead of a Korean dub.
please make a video playing your guitar (and singing?) 😍🎤🎸
the english subtitles of that hng episode are horrible.
i was Black
?
The English translation is a bit ...what shall I say to remain polite... flawed. But the go is great, thanks.
theres a human version of the show that is in chinese sub and dub
the live action is more of a coming of age drama, it's not really about go. the games are rarely even shown and they change around tons of stuff from the original series to add more drama. the anime is better to review since it focuses on the boards!
This is so postmodern
hikaru no go, first cheater in competitive
