im more impressed that he started the truck in gear
Toyotas have been able to do that for a long time. My 91 was able to do that
Andrew Prina my ‘95 4Runner has a clutch start cancel button but, if its in gear my starter motor will have to turn the entire drive train... leaching the entire truck forward.
lazydragonslayer that's what he does in this video. Yours wouldn't jump as much if you regear the pig
It's the Marlin gearing he has a video starting one one a steep incline in gear.
Been saving up for a while to put one in my 97 4runner. These things are a work of art!
As usual, Marlin crawler FTW! I love mine, you don't know what you're missing till you try it
Finally, a video with an access cab doing off road stuff
3:48. That’s how I sound when I’m about to sneeze. Lol
I’ve seen most of your videos after seeing an old 92 Toyota pickup with a set up out in the Mojave desert some time ago and instantly was hooked. TacoBox will definitely be one of my next big upgrades for my 2012 Taco TuRD OFF-ROAD! 👍🏼
Dude this a must have for Tacoma Owners its basically a better then a freaking mule
Love the reduction gearing, but I'm a bronco guy and I'm not that hungry for a whole box of tacos.
Truly amazing stuff!
Tacoma 😍😍😍
Slow speed ahead captain!
There’s nothing better 💪🏻
Badass I love that crawler
Yep I’m running the ultimate combo and just got sold to add the third case. Dam big mike love the taco 🌮
Thank you for the comment and also love that you have an Ultimate! We'd like to add, however, that Triple cases are purely only for bragging rights, showing off, and amazing product demonstrations. Less than 1% of our customers run Triple Cases. Both Marlin and BigMike run Triples in all their rigs because it allows them to showcase all of our available gearing options so potential customers can see first-hand speed differences between each setup (for example: precisely what BigMike was able to do in ua-cam.com/video/WrRBbh6-eGU/v-deo.html). But, if you do go Triples, then yes we know you're gonna love it and impress the hell out of everyone around ya! On our Marlin Crawler Forum we have an unofficial Triple Case club. You just might spot it in the signature and avatar text of some of our members! Happy Crawl'n!
Dude just hops out like I got this and grins :)
Ok make it go up on its own now
10-4! Please see "580:1 Triple Case Demonstration in a 3rd gen 2016 Toyota Tacoma":

Thats just badass
Wow! Damn that's impressive.
Great setup, love Nathan's commentary
Now THAT'S crawl control!
I puckered during that little free fall and its not even my truck...... nice build
Well don't just stand there, put some coffee on! 😉
Looks like a wreck disaster super slow-mo that's a badass feature though which my for on it had it
Amazing things that truck can do looks n sounds like it probably took few scraps underneath & to the rear at the end of this vid I also noticed that the ticking clatter sound coming from the engine it sounds like my 2017 trd offroad I hear most people say it is common for 2016, 2017 & the 18''s to make that ticking clatter sound.
From what we understand, this is the self-cleaning of the D-4S direct injection system when it's not in use (at low RPM and controlled on interval by the ECU).
Dude that is super fn crazy i cannot believe it can do that. That thing is awsome👍👌
Thank you for your great comment Randy!! Do you currently have a Toyota truck? If so what year/model? Thanks!
Impressive BUT can it go back up in REVERSE?!!!
@@yt.be-r Have you driven a car recently? Reverse is always higher than 1st
Reuben Horner - right, but your talking 560:1 ratio, you wouldn’t tell the difference .
Started in gear! nice flex.
You should do a SAND RECOVERY video, be able to turn the wheels slowly enough to go forward without the extra spinning is the key to sand recovery and climbing a sand dune just to show off 💁🏻♂️
You guys should sponsor the next Mars rover. This is amazing.
You can be your own spotter haha
I'd love to a video showing how you trimmed your fenders. They look sweet!!
i need this for my RC rigs lol
Great work guys! Keep up the good work. Would love this setup in my 10 trail teams FJ.
What's the fun in that.Trail control on alot of new vehicles and super low gear.
Taco Box... Hope you trademarked that... Taco bell might make something sounding like that in the future
We have thought about TM it before... We've been using the name ever since we created the first Dual T/Case Tacoma back in 2001. Perhaps it's time to revisit this!
Yea, But the Taco box in the truck wont give you the Hershey Squirts!
That's way better than my 6.4-1 in my Samurai with toyota axles.
Legend says he is still crawling and has not reached home..his mom is worried...😉
I want one and I don’t even rock crawl. I live in mid Michigan. Just sand and pine trees. Be fun to go the sand pit and watch it crawl down. I have 2021 Tacoma and never get stuck here unless your just trying to get it stuck
Nice, I thought I was the only owner of a 2dr ecab..everyone here in Ma for some reason wants more doors..like 4wheeling a bus
Lol the whole time I'm looking at the terrain for RC crawler lines 😂😂
You guys are KING! I love what you guys do! Fuck yea TOYOTA!
AMAZING! But where can I get that front bumper?
NASA should install TacoBox on them Rovers they be crawlin on Mars with!
On the other hand im still waiting to be notified wen stock is in for my 1st gen sequoia....NICE!!!
Cannot wait to get my taco box installed! I don’t think I’ll ever hit 37-40s but I’ll get to 35s lol. Love these videos. I want that sticker on the side, where does that come from?
hat thing could climb a wall, thats awesome
Maaaan, I don't care what people say about dual casing an automatic, I want one so I can do this ridiculousness
Hello Bryce, thanks for the comment. What do you normally hear from people regarding low gearing in an Automatic?
MarlinCrawlerMedia just regarding overpowering braking. I think I'm definitely going to get a dual case now since I figure you can just shift into neutral prior to braking.
Thank you for the response Bryce. While this is true, you're correct in that once you've geared down so much you'll be moving slow enough that yes it can always be shifted into Neutral! 😁
Its fantastic!!!! How it cost for hilux 1 kd 3.0L diezel 4 cylinder?
I wish you guys could figure out how to turn that Taco into the world's biggest RC crawler.
This alone makes me want to buy a Toyota
That's cool!
Ghost ride to whip!
Damned cool!! Does it fit in my long wheelbase Samurai? Ha ha!
Amazing
For engine braking. Gasoline engine uses vaccuum braking. For diesel it's compression braking correct?
Gasoline pistons/cylinders pulling vaccuum to brake. Diesel compressing pistons/cylinders to brake
Hold my beer while get out & look.
Would a dual transfer case for the 3rd gen Tacoma fit a 5th gen 4Runner with the manual transfer case? Sick video btw guys
Just curious how does the grade affect oil pressure?
Thank you for the question Kyle. Most production car engines use an oil pan with a sump located beneath the engine. An oil pick-up tube extends to the bottom of the sump where oil is pumped from (in Toyota's case by way of a crescent gear pump).
Because a sump is the lowest point of the engine oil reserve, it relies on gravity for oil to accumulate. As the engine is rotated on any axis away from level, the oil shifts away from the sump. If the engine undergoes sufficient tilt, then the oil pick-up tube will no longer be fully submerged in oil resulting in loss of oil pressure.
Historically speaking, Toyota low pressure sensors turn on at pressure levels of 5 PSI or lower. Having the warning on is not a concern in this case because the engine is only idling and idling at a greatly reduced load -- in this case a load reduction of 580 times. Generally speaking, engines are designed to operate at 10 PSI oil pressure per 1,000 RPM engine speed, and when an engine is idling at 600 RPM as in the case here, oil pressure of around 5 PSI is perfectly normal. Even when undergoing low pressure, oil is still flowing so there is no concern for damage. Now, if BigMike decided to rev the engine over say 2K RPM for a prolonged period of time with low pressure then there would be a concern. But luckily the who point of Rock Crawling is to Crawl a greatly reduced need for throttle input is a major advantage of the Marlin Crawler (we use torque not speed).
The point the video makes is that the slope angle is so severe that it even has caused the oil to run out of the oil pan sump.....and yet the increased acceleration effect do the gravity still makes zero difference on the engine idle speed and traction at this angle when the TacoBox is engaged. 😎
light comes on when the oil pickup that sits in the oil pan no longer is sucking in enough oil. At a steep grade like that all the oil moved to the front of the pan leaving the pickup in a dry spot.
Wow!
Drooling
Super
Bad ass.
You need to get some crawl boxes for 2017 Tacoma
Thank you for the comment! We are working on fulfilling existing TacoBox (crawl box) orders and will be changing the website listing as In Stock later this fall!
When will they be in stock again?
Who makes that badass bumper?!
Thank you for the comment Evan! BigMike designed it and a close friend built it, and we are looking to produce them for 3rd gen Tacos hopefully sometime mid to late next year! more details are found in his build thread here: www.marlincrawler.com/bm2
SpongeBob- "IIII NEEEED IIIIT!"
Had a 76 Dodge Ramcharger that with granny gear in low range was impressive like this but no way the same gear ratio.
I would like to see a standard 2016 Tacoma in the same setting. (Because I have one and don't want to use mine to try it.)
If you floor it will it break your drive shafts
That is fuc#!ND awesome
A Hot Box is better than a taco box lol
Nice stuff amazing
Impressive, most impressive (Darth Vader). It seems that every video the vehicle has put in low range and then the taco box is selected on or off. So the taco box cannot be used by it self correct?
Excellent question Evan! The TacoBox is a two speed reduction box with neutral that has a High Range of 1.00:1 and a Low Range of either 2.28:1 or 4.70:1 depending on what kit you order. Both are Dual Case setups but the later is what we call the Ultimate or TacoBox Supreme.
When the TacoBox is in its 1.00:1 High Range, torque enters and leaves at the same rate of. In this gear you could say it is disabled and the truck drives 100% like factory both on and off-road. The truck has no clue that it exists. This is how we can daily drive our Rock Crawlers.
In short, the TacoBox is a separate unit from the transmission and transfer case and can be engaged or disengaged at any time.
With the TacoBox, you t/case transforms into a four speed transfer case as follows:
(1) TacoBox High + T/Case High = 1.00:1 -- daily driver mode
(2) TacoBox High + T/Case Low = Factory off-road capability
(3) TacoBox Low + T/Case High = 1.8-times improved off-road capability
(4) TacoBox Low + T/Case Low = 4.7-times improved off-road capability
(The last two examples using our Dual Ultimate setup)
The choice to go as slow and in control as you like is the new choice you have with the TacoBox mode you select!
The following video shows the Dual Ultimate / TacoBox Supreme gearing differences and what they mean in real trail use:
How the TacoBox improves your truck's off-road capability
ua-cam.com/video/WrRBbh6-eGU/v-deo.html
Btw This is the first time Darth Vadar has visited our channel so thank you very much!!! 😎
How does this work? Why isn't gravity pullying it down ?
Hey Mike is the long travel on this truck going to be for sale soon?
Hello Mr. Norton, thank you for your question. We are working hard at getting our new RCLT IFS setup available! For updates, please see www.marlincrawler.com/rclt Thanks!
Just awesome! What lift are you running?
Thank you for the comment Will! The specs of BigMike's suspension setup that was used at the time of this filming may be found in his build thread at www.marlincrawler.com/bm2. Thanks!
MarlinCrawlerMedia thanks for the reply! I’ll look into his build. I’m starting mine in the next month or so. Maybe I’ll go wild and give you guys a call!
Look Mom! *No hand* !
Mom:
Pop that motor out and rig up a bicycle to try and move it haha
BigMike here and YES I've thought about doing this!! Would be such a fun (and useless) project!
MarlinCrawlerMedia useless projects are the best projects, sometimes
Rudy Smith haha sure are. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone pedal a bicycle and move a truck. That would be epic especially if it could crawl a hill too haha.
Might need to work on that departure angle a bit.
Waiting for comments on how the frame will rot away.
I have an '89 XJ Cherokee w/dual NP231 cases behind an AW4 automatic. 94.(something):1 w/4.56 axles. Walking down a steep incline is easy...*UNTIL* you loose traction on loose dirt/gravel/mud/etc., then you'll play hell tryin' to catch up wheel speed to ground speed to regain control. Experience talking here...
I wonder what kind of box it is
You need to go to SFR Corporation and get some super friction reducer oil product for your engine and you will never replace a bearing piston or anything ever again due to low or no oil pressure sfr
Do you have to shorten the rear driveshaft for a Marlin crawler box?
Yes. You are adding about 8.5" to the drivetrain, so the rear shaft has to be shortened and the front lengthened.
@@MarlinCrawlerMedia WOW, okay!! Wished you had a Marlin Crawler place here in Virginia!! you should look into it... check out the place called , " The Cove Campgrounds" and check out their events calendar. they Host all kinds of ATV's 4x4's of every caliber. I have a rust free 1985 Toyota 4runner SR5 5 speed sitting on 35's with 5:29's. need to do more.... and Happy New Year to Y'all!!
Dude i’m sure if you put the same setup on any other truck and matched the shaft out put “after the trans” it would do the same thing
Hello Gunnar and thank you for the comment! This is correct and why over the years we've made bolt pattern adapters to place our Toyota-based transfer case products in many domestic applications such as behind SM420/465, TH350/400, 700R4, T18, NP435, and AX5/15 GM, Ford, and Chrysler transmissions.
The core reason why the Toyota Hilux platform is better than any other production drivetrain for low gearing is because of how its transfer case is uniquely designed with a compact front removable housing containing its low range components. In fact it is the only mass-produced part-time 4WD transfer case with such a design and, combined with the advantageously long wheelbase of a pickup, is why a Toyota was used when Marlin created the hobby and later the industry of Rock Crawling.
For more history on the foundation of Rock Crawling, please see our About Us page at www.marlincrawler.com/about Happy Crawl'n from Marlin Crawler!
MarlinCrawlerMedia Thanks for responding the reason I made that comment was to me it seamed that in the video you where inferring that the Toyota drive train was way better and in retro sect I don’t have a favorite drive train i now understand what you met “maybe put that in the next vid you made just so you don’t seem super cocky”
Thank you for the excellent suggestion Gunnar! We will make a Dual Case and Rock Crawling history video and mention you in it! Have a great rest of the week and cya around 👍🏼🍻
THOSE SILLY LITTLE DAMN ELFS
God I want one for my T100 😫. Stock 4.70s, needs lockers and a dual t-case setup. What’s the idle speed of the Tacoma? It’s a manual I’m assuming?
Oil starvation right there
Thanks! It's really cool isn't it? 😄 Maybe we should add how the Crawler prevents damage during oil starvation while at extreme angles. Actually, this is a brilliant idea!
Is it using fuel?
Even though I'm doing LT, and not much rock crawling. it's still MC>TG
Can you drive this truck normally also? Or you have to towed everywhere?
Where is the box installed?
Can I put this in my 2000 Toyota 4Runner? I know how to cut and weld.
The oil light came on and you let it keep going into a steeper pitch? might wanna check those rod bearings.
Thanks for the comment Mike! Oil pressure 5 PSI or lower is not damaging to an engine at an unloaded idle. Even though oil pressure is low, there is still oil volume moving. Believe us, we have been in extreme angles with zero oil pressure for many a prolonged period of time in both 4cyl and 6cyl Toyota applications running our Dual and Triple Transfer Case products. Because our gearing vastly multiplies torque, we can do very difficult maneuvers all from the safety of a smooth, quiet, low-load idle with very low oil pressures. Happy Crawl'n!
I fucking need one of those
Awesome send the truck to rock crawling send a drone to see it and stay cool in your house, may be cheaper to play video games
Y'all me to do a snow demonstration up hill and down hill
Can this be driven at highway speed as well? I'm thinking of getting a dual transfercase or something similar for my xterra but I don't want to make it a SAS'd crawler-only towed to the ATV park vehicle, I want it highway driveable but with a high ratio like this
Can this be done on a tundra?
I had a jeep once that crawled like that down hills... but that was when it was in park lol.
While this is pretty funny, we have installed our Toyota-based Dual Case setups into a few Jeeps. The biggest issue as we all know is the wheelbase, but we have some customers with stretched wheelbase Jeeps in the 300 to 400:1 range thanks to Toyota and Marlin Crawler components! (Note: These are highly custom applications and we do not offer any standard kits for this.)
16driver16 lol!!
🤣 and i thaught my nissan was only of its kind 🤣🤣
:) hahahah
