I was not surprised to see Calgary in the 4th place as home construction is so busy in our area. A lot of people are moving here due to cheaper housing compared to other major cities.

I was pretty sure Halifax was going to be no 1. It used to have slow and steady growth for decades but starting in 2015 it has taken off like a bullet. The Beast of East (coast that is). The waterfront in Halifax is amazing.

For sure….people say it’s the new Victoria… I say it’s way better than Victoria. Houses are maybe $600 , 000 if you’re lucky .
It’s very true. This city is growing so fast I feel like I go to Halifax and see a new building I never saw before. All the new development really makes the city look modern. My only concern is that there has been very little infrastructure changes to support this growth. Congestion will only get worse if they don’t start making some changes to the highways!

@@Jab-vl3bw What I know they receive aid with money, health care when they need it, shelter, food, clothing, counselling, free syringes and more from the local government and private organizations, maybe is not social services but the aid is more generous than other cities. Maybe you know more than me because I don't live in Vancouver.

Victoria, BC is an expensive place to live, at least for home owners. And where to find work that pays enough to thrive there.
As an Albertan, Calgary has become an unrecognizable because of its growth since the 1980's. It has an incredible urban sprawl and has grown expensive. It has a very large immigrant population, that progresses well.
Edmonton, 3 hours north is far more lively, interesting and more welcoming; and probably more jobs.

I find it amusing that you mentioned Yonge street when you spoke about Toronto, but then showed the Queen Street streetcar. Yonge street has the subway, but no streetcars.

I am surprised you didn’t mention Edmonton. It’s a great city for job opportunities and one the suburb cities St Albert has numerous times been voted best city to live in Canada. Edmonton has actually out paced Calgary for growth. Edmonton has the University of Alberta. One of Canada’s top universities. Also NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technologies) is ranked one of Canada’s top Poly Tech schools.
The thing missing about London, ON is that the city's growth between 2011 and 2016 was INSANE. The 2011 census pegged the city at 330,000 people. Whereas in 2021, it was 590,000! That is a ridiculous increase of almost double. Believe me, you feel it in the traffic!

Why Edmonton not in the list? It's not the nicest city but it's housing price is even cheaper than Calgary and has good enough job opportunities with the University of Alberta and home of Edmonton Oilers

I currently reside in Winnipeg, unfortuately, I desired to move to Vancouver or Calgary in the near future.
I believe 'downtown' refers to the dense heart of a city, usually made up of many high rise buildings

Calgary sometimes gets snow in JUNE, and is very windy. Great city though

I've lived in Halifax since '99. Great place to live. It is the best small city/large town I've every lived in. While technically Halifax has four seasons, don't expect a real summer. Think of it more like a lovely spring that lasts from April or May through August. When they say it is "hot", they mean it is over 20C!

You have got to be kidding me, we have been having hot summers for the last 5-7 years. Back in the 90s I didn't need A/C can't go without it now. Spring here is often wet and cold. This year we have had very little rain and it didn't snow this year until February. Even our falls have changed. Fall leaves are changing much later than it used to.
@@corinnemcleod1804 This is why I'm here, for Halifax to rest-of-the-world translation! It is true that our summers(and winters) are getting warmer, and they are still not hot. Part of the problem is that Halifax is the only place I've lived where the wind is always colder than the air temp, so even in the summer the wind can have quite a chilling effect.
Yes , Halifax is now currently outweighting western cities for house prices. $500,000 might get you a house there now. Halifax is more expensive than Calgary / Edmonton for housing. What a city though damn beautiful !
I live in Quispamsis the suburbs of saint john nb, for a population of 130,000 people we have the largest oil refinery in canada a couple paper mills,Moosehead brewrese, two power plants, one of the largest deepwater ports in canada which the cruise ships come every year. we also have a big forestry sector and fisheries sector and the cheapest housing in the country I have been living here for 15 years i originally come from whitby ontario I love it here

It appears that Van doesn’t grow as fast, mostly because of land scarcity we think. That’s why you get other cities outside Vancouver in that area growing fast in this top 10 list!

Like economic growth is the only thing that matters ,nothing said about how the benefit of growth is not spread equally for everyone.I didn’t hear anything about traffic commutes increasing .
I'd love to end up in Victoria for th mild winters , but it really depends on where we get jobs.

@@MakeThatChange The problem for Victoria is that it can't grow out very easily. Surrounded by a Water District you can't even take a step into to the north and water on three sides. It has to grow denser and that means high rises.

Hello! I found your video very informative and I was wondering if I could ask for your opinion on life insurance. I'm new to this country and I've heard mixed opinions about it. Some people say that it's absolutely normal to have life insurance, while others say it's a scam and should be avoided. I'm not sure what to believe, so I wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter. Apologies for asking an unrelated question, but I hope you can help me understand better. Thank you!
Personally I would not recommend buying life insurance. Many employers have private insurance as part of compensation package, it also includes life insurance in many cases.
Life insurance could make sense in case you’re a bread winner for the family, or have big debts, and you want to make sure that should anything happen, your family is well taken care of at least a bit….
Even if something happens, it may be a huge headache to actually qualify for the benefits, because insurance companies will always look for any fine print or excuse why your specific case is not covered.
That’s our personal opinion, but I recommend you talk to a life insurance advisor and see what they say, just out of curiosity.

How isn't Hamilton on this list? Ive been here for 42 years and have lived the change. It's changing at break neck speed every day. IMO it will grow in population by 40-50% in the next 5 years.
It’s certainly possible Hamilton will grow, we’ve heard many projecting fast growth. And it has been growing - just not as fast as the top 10!

If we do diploma in Canada in it/tech related field after 12th. Can we get high paying jobs in big cities/provinces after doing only diploma without doing a degree. Because I want to start my own business in Canada after getting PR.

And Montreal is a great city to live in if you have private health care or else you risk dying at the emergency room before you even get through triage and good luck finding a doctor anywhere!! in Quebec , I live in Gatineau born here and most people don't have a doctor and the major hospital's emergency has closed for a period more than once . Too bad these inspiring videos don't bother to mention the collapse in situ .
This list makes sense but it is also important to notice that we have more people and immigrants but we are lacking infrastructure in homes and proper city planning / design. Our growth for Canada is very insane because we are taking in so many immigrants but it really is not sustainable with cost of housing and renting. Soon places that are affordable to live will become the same to ridiculous prices we see in metropolitian areas.

Within the context of this analysis, statscan only looked at the list of Primary downtowns. Missisauga is, in fact, considered as a secondary downtown - looking at it's growth it's still significantly lower than the 10 cities we've referred to in this video, it's only grown by 7%. Vaughn on the other hand, saw a tremendous growth!

I was most surprised by Montreal being #2 and that it is so financially prosperous. Makes me wonder if the rest of the province is economically disadvantaged that Quebec is still considered a “have not” province.

I don't believe Quebec is that poor. The federal government just sets the standards in a way that benefits Quebec at the expense of the other provinces. That equalization program needs to go.

I was talking to my mom the other day and we were talking about how Niagara falls is such an under developed city It has one of the 7 wonders of the world but has a population of around 100k with all the tourism they could have easily made Niagara falls a booming city but all the housing is suburban style and there is no apartment buildings the only tall buildings are hotels and casinos and such let's also not forget all the amazing waterfront properties in the area the boulevard is covered in mansions I feel like Niagara falls is just a ton of wasted potential

Niagra Falls and the niagra region doesn't want to become a big over populated city. We like it the way it is, and yes it is a tourist trap, thats how we generate tourist dollars. Come spend your money and then go home and come back next year and spend more when we increase our prices meatballs.

If you are defining it by the Greater Metropolitan Area, than Toronto would be closer to 9-10 million. Therefore, it would still be larger than Dallas, Houston or Philadelphia. NY, LA, Chicago, and San Francisco would be larger, so Toronto would be 5th, so not that far off from the 4th position stated in the video.
@@pcoleman1971 Toronto city population is 2.8 million (inside the city limits) Area pop is 6.7 million. If you want to go for 8 million, then you have to include Hamilton and the whole horseshoe. that is kinda dumb. Y? because Hamilton is not a suburb of Toronto.' Frisco is not as big as Seattle, or even Vancouver..
@glen w When talking about the greater metropolitan area, Houston is 6.7 million, Dallas - Forth Worth is 6.6 million. The GTA is 7.2 million. And since we are talking about areas, the San Francisco Bay area is 7.7 million.
Definining what is / is not part of the city is subjective. Yet, by either city or area, Toronto is in the top 6.
Victoria's crime rate is the highest on Vancouver Island. I notice you didn't mention that.

As an ‘old style’ city, I’m surprised MTL is as high on the list as it is…that and ridiculous taxation. Victoria gets my vote but being born and raised there I am shamelessly biased. I’ll be there in June!!
Montreal is student city, something tells us many students just come for school and stay there, and that spurs growth! Have fun back in Victoria in June!
Montreal has the biggest urban parks in Canada ( greenest) , built for families, the safest and the the 3rd largest aerospace center in the world after Toulouse ( France) and Seatle ( USA) . World leader in artificial intelligence and medecine ,world-class university hospitals and collaborations between industry, government and research institutes. Some of the areas where Montréal has established world-renowned expertise include oncology, infectious diseases, neuroscience and mental health, regenerative medicine for rare diseases, precision medicine. Largest urban parks in Canada with 700 green roofs tops for agriculture downtown . Tech compagnies are moving from California to Montreal . Movies , special effects technology, arts and biggest museums in Canada etc ... Montreal is greener than Vancouver and Victoria with 475 of bike lanes and the only city in Nort america on the Copenhagen Index. Montreal is bilingual ( french and english and open to the world .

You are indeed biased. Montreal has been redeveloping entire sectors in and around downtown. Small discrepit industrial brick buildings (4 floors high) are being replaced with modern towers.

I want to know one thing : what if somebody speaks 5 languages, Kabyle my mother tongue, fluent French, English and Arabic and elementary German? Is there a place for polyglots? Besides, graduate in computing of management.
Montréal, a huge diverse and cultural city you'll easily find polyglots, but if you go west speaking french it's like having a special power.
Good issue as I will use this information to move the other way to stay away from this. Bigger is NOT always better. I will ALWAYS live in a small town.

@@MakeThatChange BC have the most dangerous cities in Canada , Kelowna, Surrey, Kamloops and Nanaimo . It rains most of the time . We are April 15th 2023, it is 8 c , raining and will rain the next 10 days. Vancouver is the canadian capital of homeless, drugs and 50 % of its population is asian.

Vancouver downtown has outgrown almost every other Canadian city. Just get a shot of down town in the mid 80's, and then today. You won't be able to find most of the buildngs you saw in the 1986 picture.. So you dropped the ball

Chilliwack BC next to Abbotsford, beautiful place to live mountains, lakes, rivers, so much new construction going on here, lots of new apartments for rent, just an hour from Vancouver

It’s true that many have left Toronto, it happens so that the newcomer inflow is still much greater than the outflow. You can say it’s growth has slowed, but certainly not gotten negative.

What are the scopes for such fields? I also have a background in writing and editorial, in which I've worked here in India. Are there going to be enough prospects for me?
LOL radio broadcasting i worked in broadcasting for 23 years those jobs are now gone, you not gonna find a place to live and you will h have to learn english and french to have any hope in hell to make it in these industries.

В двух словах, по статистике, и ER время ожидания ниже, и быстрее к специалистам можно попасть, и у большего процента населения есть семейный доктор, и в целом люди более довольны, чем по Канаде. Самая лучшая медицина говорят в BC.

Nanaimo is one the fastest growing cities why wasn't it included? It always takes a bad wrap that is so incorrect. Nanaimo is beautiful and has tons of potential.
It didn’t show up in the official stats for top 10 of fast growth. Perhaps we should do a follow up video using other criteria for growth, aside from statistics Canada

@@MakeThatChange I just say that as our province of Alberta is constantly on top. Calgary and Edmonton constantly on the upper echelon.
I get the stats aspects, buth there is so many nuances they don't consider. For example Gatineau Quebec is really part of Ottawa as it is right across the river so its growth is due to Ottawa...the same with cities around Vancouver like Abbottsfield as Vancouver has no more real estates to grow, so it's just a suburb of Vancouver. You don't even know where Vancouver ends and when Abbottsfield starts...

The statement was less about population that uses gas, and more on gas production. Thanks for flagging this though, we’ve done a lot more digging and it appears that gas production in Nova Scotia was actually reduced as of 2018
