Relax with Sheep at Shafer Vineyards in Napa Valley - 6 hours 4K

- Each year a large herd of sheep visits Shafer Vineyards during springtime here in Napa Valley. They come to naturally mow the abundant cover crop that grows in our vine rows, which is an important part of our approach to sustainable farming. Everyone at the winery loves it when the sheep arrive. There's something about their presence that is calming, cheering, and peaceful.
During the upheaval and uncertainty in the world right now, we wanted to share the pastoral beauty of this with you.
These images of beautiful sheep grazing in our vineyards are set to the music of songbirds, the vineyard breeze, occasionally the geese on our pond, and of course the sheep themselves. Think of it as our version of one of those logs-burning-in-a-fireplace videos that can play in the background of your day at home.
We've repeated one hour of footage to give you a total of six hours of wine country tranquility. This was shot during March 2020 here on our property by Napa Films. The sheep come to us from the folks at Woolly Weeders.
Stay strong and stay well.
I loves sheeps it’s Furby as a cloud
Who else found this surprisingly relaxing? I know a bunch of people play the radio in the background while they're in self-isolation, but for me this is so much better -- no ads, no politics, no pandemic news, just a bunch of sheep chilling and doing their thing. 👏😊🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐏🐏🐑🐑🐏🐑🐑🐑🐏🐏🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐏
a few years back my daughter's dog was going nuts because the kids and I were watching funny animal vids. I said "OK let's find one called "calming one for dogs" and sheep came on. He was asleep within minutes. I have been hooked on this channel, playing it in "repeat" mode day after day. Very very relaxing. Be blessed Peter Edit: before I am texted "this vid has only been out for a few months" this is not the video I was referring to, but one very similar but this one is one of my favs.
Maybe we could add audio of counting sheep so we can listen to it as we Dose off to sleep
So this is the goal of "Slow TV" actually) Welcome to the club
Yup. When I really want to relax, I meditate with sheep or cow videos. I wish I could live a simple life out in nature. I feel like I have done it before in some past life.
all I see are a bunch of white leftist biden voters.
All the joy of sheep without the smell
OH MY.. at just over 24 minutes in... baby lamb... this is the most sweetest thing I have ever seen.
Around 30:30 and before sounds like the lamb is saying ‘mama’. So sweet! :-)
29:29
Made all the more relaxing and enjoyable when accompanied by a glass or two of Cabernet ;)
Such a good bunch of people who love watching this video. Now i can see why Jesús loves sheeps as well. (smile)
jesus our lord and the church love this animal because it represents us. to the world and its darkness we are like little lambs and we need the lords hand to shephard us like a herd and take care of us and tell us what to do and what not to do. beautiful animal i think.
@sheepies & sheeps haha why?
These animals - so beautiful, so peaceful, so innocent .
This is the best thing I've ever seen. I love sheep. I love vineyards. This is the most beautiful thing ever and I want to pull up a little chair and just be with them. Thank you so much for this!
My 6 months old loves the sound of this video. Often puts her to sleep
Thank you Shafer Vineyards, this is very kind of you..
Pete wrote it had only about 6,000 views at the time of his piece, 14 April. Now it's 204,0000 ;-)
I started the video on my phone (5.5") and couldn't wait to switch a 21" computer screen. Now I'm running it on my TV while reading. And just like the sheep, I'm chilling.
Thank you so much, Doug! Brilliant to create it in the video version of a Long Read. Now I get to find some of your wines to try.
I work in home office and I suffer from anxiety. Nothing ever helped me more to focuse and relax! Thank you❤❤❤
I have a figurine collections of sheep. I must have 40 of them all sizes. I love to see them. On three trips to England, riding the buses and the rails all over England I saw them grazing and since it was springtime each time we visited, saw many giving birth, and some babies still had their umbilical cords still attached to them.
that is savage but im sure the cord wont stick around for long. iv seen it um "dry up" or waste away on my dogs and other animals.
I'm working from home now and each lunch hour I put on this video and lay down for a blissful nap. A memory I'll keep and tell about when the virus is behind us. So whimsical!
Thank you Shafer Vinyards. This is exactly what I needed.
They all look sooo fluffy! 😍
The sheep's are so adorable I just love 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏🐑🐑❤❤❤❤💋💋💋💋💋😁😁 and I enjoyed their sound they make so cute 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I wish I lived there so peace and quiet
Turn off all news and run this in the background of your day. Sigh, a relaxing relief from daily stress. My blood pressure just dropped by 20. Like several others who commented, I'm a spinner and knitter and I used to have angora goats. This takes me right back to those years. Thanks for posting this video, so much appreciated.
I keep forgetting I have it on and getting surprised by random Baas! This is cracking me up!

I decided to knit a wool sweater and I think this is just perfect to watch on my iPad while I knit!
By far the best video ever
Fantastic clip!
Me and my son love to watch this before bedtime or during quiet time!
Thank you so much for posting this...very relaxing💕
Watching from Palm City, Florida👍
Keep calm and carry on.
Napa Valley. Beautiful
Thank you! So lovely!
Come here from New York Times, what a world! Never expecting one day I work with herds of sheep...
AWWWWWW so Cute. I love sheep! No wool garments for me and not meat.

Tenía razón The New York Times, esto es totalmente relajante. Gracias por publicarla.
So pieceful. And beautiful. With no talking or dumb music it's relaxing thanks
I love this. Thank you for posting. Spring is not cancelled.
I like the fly that keeps dive-bombing the microphone.
Beautiful!! 👍🏻😁🌷. From Maggie - Napa Valley Nanny
Love from london, uk. Read about this in the new york times. Thank you for posting
Saw article in todays New York Times. Thanks for this video. So comforting to listen to nature and watch these scenes.
So glad the NYTimes shared this link! What an awesome distraction.
Read about this site in NYT (in an article by Pete Wells) so I decided to come over for a look see. So peaceful, never realized they ´talk´ so much! Thanks for putting this up 👏😄
Same here. A little surprised there's still only 21K views, even after it's been featured in the NYT.
I saw that - and it keeps growing.
Not baaad!
Me too! I'm from Italy, I wonder if it will go viral over here as well :P

Mind medicine. Thank your for this dose of calm and normalcy and respite from C19. Thank your Peter Wells for putting it front and center.
very good wine as well
Some years ago I was a shepherd at Juniper Moon Fiber Farms outside Charlottesville, Virginia & there is nothing so mesmerizing, so hypnotic as watching the flock do its sheep thing. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share all your goodness with us. With gratitude to all y'all *&* the NYTimes because this *is* more news fit to publish!
These are two things I've always dreamed of having: a vineyard and a sheep herd! I never imagined both could be enjoyed at the same time!
I imagine the wool of some of those sheep found their way into my very sizable and totally un-knit stash of Juniper Moon yarns. It's luscious so clearly you did a good job.
Ms. Ribbit, I had the same thought!
This is a wonderful distraction from all the ugly news these days. Watching these peaceful animals graze and hearing their chatter has put me at ease during this uncertain time. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you, thank you New York Times for leading me to this wonderful, calming background to my day. Now if I can just stay awake it will be great. And of course thank you to ShaferVinyards, Wooly Weeders and Napa Films. Already I have designed yet another facemask for our "new normal". I keep trying to find the perfect fit, comfort, air flow. These sheep may help me get there.
Ewe are a hero!
Maybe you could just let yourself fall asleep to this lullaby.
this vid means everything to me
Your “yule log” video for the pandemic, as described in the NYT... love it!
Pete Wells of the NY Times shared this on Apr 15. I've been running it most working hours every day since. Like others, I don't know why it's so soothing. But it is, and I am so appreciative of Shafer Vineyards doing this. Looking forward to visiting Shafer when we can travel and visit!
Thanks Deborah - glad you love these sights and sounds as much as we do!
Just saw the short clip of that beautiful dog. What a serene face.
Thank you. The world needs more of this.
Agreed
Beautiful relaxing sheep green pretty grass no music thanks for this nice vidio
Thanks for a mesmerizing trance to bring calm as we sip your wines to get through these bizarre weeks of quarantine... May we all prevail and strive to a better life at the other end of all this!
This has become my go to video for lowering the anxiety of 2020! I have it on while I am sewing and quilting. I have also been inspired to make my own video for quilting friends. Thanks so much for this, and I hope you are safe and well!

thank you so much Made the most peaceful day as it played in the background as I worked, sewed, cooked.. just so nice in these times. Peace..
Wish I could like it multiple times!
So happy to see this. My late husband wrote about wine for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and I have lovely memories of visiting you, although we never managed to be there when the sheep were in residence. Best wishes ---
This is lovely! Thanks -- just what we all need!
Thanks NYT.
Strangely and pleasantly addicting.
Also came from the mention in the NY Times Morning edition. Compared with the rest of the world right now, this is quite relaxing!
Great farming technique and a wonderful, relaxing thing to watch during these stressful times.
Absolutely love this. Has replaced music today while I get my work done. Thank you.
Clearly, a videographer with knowledge of how to shoot b-roll is behind this fine footage. Nicely done.
Thanks so much for this video....I love to draw and paint sheep and this will give me lots of relaxing in the studio and wonderful time with the sheep in your beautiful vineyard. Thank you from NY where we will be staying at home for many more weeks ❤️🐑🐑🐑
That's great. We've got them at all angles!
@@ShaferVineyards are all the sheep here ewes, or rams too? I know not all rams have horns so that's why I ask.
Just found this through the NYT article. Some of our best times have been in Ireland seeing sheep everywhere. Many great memories, needed this right now!!
Shafer Vineyards...thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful, peaceful and truly wonderful footage of beautiful sheep grazing in your vineyards. The baby and mommy sheep were beyond amazing. Love your very white Golden dog. All very Zen. Again, thank you for sharing.
We love it when the sheep come for their annual two week visit and wanted to share that. We had no idea how many people would find them so tranquil and beautiful.
Thank you! Found you via the NYT. Stay well, watchers!
Love the one having a scratch at 42:05!
Amazing video. I think sheep are truly the most beautiful and blessed animals on this earth and we should all listen to what they have to say.
Wonderful !!
A wonderful tonic in these trying times. Found this through a NYT article, thank you so much for posting. Stay safe.
It's so great to see a therapeutic landscape is maintained in a natural way. (also, a great background while working at home!) Thank you for posting. We love it!
Wonderful. I never thought listening to sheep was so relaxing
Better than listening to music while working! I may try it for sleep, just to see where my dreams take me. Thank you. :) Baaaah
🇮🇪 Many thanks to all for putting this together + NYT 🇺🇸
I'm here because my college professor Tim Samara recommended this to us in class. He also sent us an email with this link.
Love it...Love your wines too! Best wishes for a good harvest this year
Thanks David. So far it's been a beautiful year -- if you're a grapevine.
Sooooooooo happy!!!!!!
I'm in an almost entirely empty office in No. Va. as I glance at (and mostly listen to) this video. My office-mate's plants look slightly alarmed but I've assured them that it's all virtual--they're safe!
Amazing... relax...
absolutely love this. using it as my mac screensaver. best to everyone at Shafer from Kimberly Miller Perry and her dad
Thank you!
I need to watch this before I go to bed. Thank you for this beautiful video.
It's beautiful and very peaceful...
Just read about this video from a New York Times article. Thank you for sharing this video. Cheers from Washington DC
Thank you. I didn't know how much I needed this!
This is lovely. I have it running on my laptop, and could hear the sheep from the kitchen when I was making my breakfast. So soothing. I can imagine myself taking a walk among the vines. You're down the road from one of my favorite perches along the Silverado Trail, which is the bar deck at Auberge du Soleil. I was first introduced to your winery when I left Cal with a literature degree in the late 1970s and went to work at SRI. An early job was in the AI Lab, co-founded by Ridge Wine co-founder Charlie Rosen. We had Ridge Wine under the computer room raised floor, many enthusiastic wine drinkers with knowledge of wine, lots of trips to your valley, lots of wine and wine tasting (so casual then). Thank you for this comforting video, and reminder of happy days.
Sounds like you know our neighborhood well -- glad we could bring some of that to you!
@@ShaferVineyards I do know your neighborhood well. In my opinion it's one of the loveliest anywhere. I'm still listening and watching your gift of a video (baby lambs!). Once all of this is over, I'll come back to the Silverado Trail, maybe with a tasting at your winery arranged in advance as part of my itinerary. Thanks again for the beauty and the calm.
Lovely change of pace. Thank you! (Found this through NYT article)
This is awesome! And that little lamb strutting around! Love it!!!!
Thank you for this! It's lovely.
Nice upload, you have an interesting vineyard and landscape there. I manage vineyards in New Zealand and often think about getting to experience a growing season in Napa.
So beautiful and peaceful!! ❤️🌷 Thanks for sharing~
Bringing the tranquility of the Shafer vineyards to my living room! This is greatly appreciated in Atlanta! Thank you
Thanks ShaferVineyards and thanks New York Times.
This is hands down my dog’s favorite video. We watch a lot of animal videos, especially sheep videos, and he goes especially wild for this one! Just don’t ask me why we have our dog watching UA-cam lol
I think your dog and I might be very alike haha. It's not that unusual to give house pets something to stare at or walk by, as we put ourselves into enclosures and try to give our pets a little slice of heaven within them, its natural to want to try to find ways to supplement the parts that we cannot give while we house them this way. It's not really the same, but clearly your dog enjoys it : )
This is awesome! I've missed hanging out in Napa during the Spring. Thanks for reminder of how amazing it is in your valley.
thank you so much
Just loving listening and watching as I work and potter....so calming in these turbulent times. May this crisis forge the return to a simpler life...
Loved it! Thank you
This is awesome! Thank you
Love this so much ❤️. Thank you! 🐑🐑🐑
Thanks a lot! This is so relaxing! Watching from Brazil, found you guys because of Nytimes
Totally perfect for these troubled times.
Watched it after the NYT article too. Videoprojecting it in a confined appartment. I was skeptical at first, but it is really soothing !
Thanks to the guy who spent those long hours filming, changing cameras, doing traveling and also the editing :D
Happy to hear you enjoyed it. Love the idea of projecting it!
