It is trusting to a consensus of common human voices rather than some isolated or arbitrary expert or record... Tradition may be defined as an extension of this democratic franchise: it refuses to submit to a small and often arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about. All democrats object to men being disqualified by the accident of birth; tradition, in a similar vein, simply objects to them being disqualified by accident of death. Democracy tells us not to neglect a good man's opinion, even if he is our offspring's groom. Tradition asks us not to neglect a good man's opinion, even if he is our father. So I, at any rate, cannot find myself separating these two concepts as others find themselves so apt. It seems evident to me that they are inextricably linked. So good to hear this gentleman again, and how right he is, let's hope to hear him again, their is such a lot of hypocrisy around, thanks for this interview, really enjoyed it, 😊
David Is one of our best and most intellectual people in society ! Looking at some of our graduates and students in Cambridge today I can agree with him wholeheartedly. Having delta with hundreds of students over the last 50 years I am afraid we are rapidly loosing our cultural identity !
Brilliant ending! The excitement of the chase, indeed. I'm wading through the archives in my field and I completely agree with Starkey's views that history is uncovering the truth, like a detective. We need to keep this man current and in the public eye. Forget the noisy grasshoppers.

@@badgerattoadhall Well, actually, this has been festering quietly amongst the 'intelligentsia' for decades. My university experience in the 80s/early 90s was thoroughly tainted with this gobshite.
What a treasure to be able to listen to this astonishingly learned historian. So much social destruction is going on with this woke nonsense. Utterly contemptible.
I am so thankful he is sharing this. I have experienced the same in my profession, where social agenda takes priority over experience and education. I understand that some may feel us in the "old guard" need to assist and "make way" for new voices and ideas---but the methods being used will not move us forward. If we continue we will experience tremendous, and potentially dangerous, setbacks. Somewhat equivalent to the burning of the library at Alexandria or the sacking of Rome----losing tremendous knowledge. I am sad to hear this is happening in the UK as well as the US.
There are so many holes in his arguments I lost track. Dr Starkey has produced a fine body of research word, but he cannot see that he did something wrong. He would do well to stick to print, where he can consider his words. He did not use a 'word out of place'. He revealed an unpleasant side of himself that many could not condone. He is, in fact, very much playing the victim.
Thank you Peter for welcoming David Starkey as a knowledgeable guest, refreshing to listen to his straight talking and having an opinion about so many subjects past and present; seems we are not allowed to have opinions nowadays without jeopardizing our careers and future, so seeing and listening to David speaks volumes to hope.
One of the few people who I admire all the more, for his self belief without having to be modest. What the establishment have done to him was a disgrace. I have thoroughly enjoyed his social observations since the Moral Maze, QT and his historical contributions to British culture. Listening to such intellectual discussion reminds me of the the radio friendly 3 and half minute song v 10 minute plus prog rock analogy. You have to allow complex intelligent musical arrangements enough time to tell its story, and it equally requires the ability to be patient and to actively listen. Sadly, such opportunities are missed on debates or snapshots on news programs on complex social issues .
Good to see Dr Starkey doing interviews and sharing his wisdom and knowledge. Only fairly recently I read through his book on the wives of Henry VIII. It took me a fair while to read due to the length and extent of fine detail, but thoroughly worth the effort. He is too important to just disappear, over a silly slip of the tongue. Anyone with sense recognized his cancellation as a woke overreaction anyway.
Really glad that he did this interview. There was recently a similar attempt to cancel me for a similar incident when some idiots at the workplace were not happy that I have made an online case against health and safety culture and how it is corrupt to the core. Of course, despite not breaking any rules or regulations that were in place, I was forced to leave my job, but I found a new one quiet easily. The only problem with David Starkey is that he does not have 'Sir' in front of his name. Please give this man a knighthood. He is hugely inspirational.
Yes, the terrible oppression of "health and safety culture". Because when you come right down to it, who really gives a shit about health or safety? Nobody, that's who. Have you considered writing for Viz?
So happy he's on UA-cam where he can even reach a broader, larger audience. I have recently discovered his marvelous presentation of Marlborough and was taken in by the insight and detail presented. If others have rejected him, it's sadly their loss. It seems as though we are entering "The Dark Ages" again both in the UK and US. Truth must always prevail and will always find a way.
I wasn't aware of these circumstances surrounding Dr. Starkey and I find it appalling that he's been treated so badly. He is an eminent scholar. I've watched his programs and presentations for years and have learned more than I ever did in school. He's an asset to society. I'm glad that he's back and I hope we begin to hear more push-back against the over reactions and dangers of cancel culture. It's quickly devolving into mob mentality. There needs to be reasoned voices speaking in the public domain and Dr. Starkey is one of the best.
Good to see him back, he didn't deserve what happened to him, the man apologized for sloppy language and that should have been the end of it. The wholesale smearing of his reputation and life's work was just pathetic and unfair.

He's also bought into the bullshit about Trump being a _demagogue_ which makes him little better than the Democrats who call the 74 million who voted for Trump _racist insurrectionists._
@@Valelacerte eh... strictly by definition, its accurate. Its a political style that has bad connotations, but its a trait that is kind of baked into populism by its very nature.
It is what it is. I enthusiastically voted for him twice, and if he runs in 2024 I'll do it again.
@@Valelacerte hello Valelacerte ; I think he was referring to the general “perception” of Trump rather than traducing Trump.. Starkey is far too non-conformist to echo “group-think” platitudes on Trump; he would see it as vulgar and beneath him.
I'm mixed race and agree with Dr Starkey. It seems to me that my ancestry and heritage is being used as a vanguard movement against the perceived establishment of our great country.
Couldn't agree more mate 👍🏻
GrapeSkoda would that not be the same in Japan, China, every country in Africa
My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough.
" It really REALLY is insanity!" Couldn't have put it any better. Thanks.
He knows so much about English history
Welcome to the 21st Century The Woke brigade and the Victim clique . Thank you Dr David Starkey for an interesting clarifcation of todays world .
Woke, a word used by arseholes towards people who aren’t arseholes for not being arseholes
Its great to see this honest, intelligent, and thoughtful man speaking in public again.
Peter I salute you wonderful to hear from Dr Starkey again he is always worth listening to 👍
A remarkable man, a thinker that has informed my love of history. Please keep in the public domain. You're so amazing
Really great to hear this interview. thank you for having David on.
Glad to see Dr. Starkey back and feisty as ever. Keep 'em coming Peter.
Oh nice! Welcome back Starkey! Good on you guys for having him on.
Hell yeah welcome back to the fight.
Very much looking forward to listening to you. Glad you will be able to speak again via Culture Forum.
110% agree with every word this clever man has said. Sadly not being well eductade I struggle to explain in such a way so how refreshing this was for me !!
Thank goodness. Welcome back. We need your input
I commend the new culture forum for bringing back David Starkey. Very corageous. I missed Dr Starkey so much and was horrified with what happened. And disgusted with almost no one defending him.
Dr Starkey was just regrouping, back stronger, with guns ablazing.
No one defends him because of cowardice. People are so cucked by the PC poison and virtue signalling to the elites who push the twisted, sick narratives of this modern era through their iron grip control over the media, Hollywood, academia and politics and a politicized police force filled with traitors against the British people.
@@distantthunder12ck55 Indeed, most British conservative intellectuals prefered to protect J.K Rowling.
@@miguelmarques4583 It is ironic, because J.K. Rowling was one of the worst virtue-signaling cancel queens. If a nasty little cancel maggot with a grudge got noticed by J.K. Rowling or Chelsea Clinton, he could be assured of starting a swarm to ruin his victim.
@@Ubu987 Something that she has never apoligised for.
Great to see Dr. Starkey back. I enjoy very much his history telling.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
I like this bloke. He's clever and he loves England.
and the English Love him x
This guy is a genuine treasure of the nation.
Try to find that episode of Question TIme in which he told the truth to Shirley Williams, Harriet Harwoman and Boring Dumblebey about how and why they occupied their privileged positions. I will never forget the looks on their mediocre faces as they realised that Dr Starkey had rumbled them and wasn't going to spare them! He's a man of character. We need more like him.
Yes, exactly, the latter of which takes courage nowadays, despite the magnificent achievements of the English in the days of the British Empire.
He is a racist.☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
I've been waiting so long to hear from David Starkey again, I was mortified that he was cancelled so wrongly and was protesting to Darren Grimes for going along with it. He threw David under the bus!!
Grimes was thinking of his career. He shouldn't have one
Wow. He's off my Christmas card list then.
@@perperson199 He's done himself some damage there. This hormonal wokeism will pass. Most of us will still be around to pick up the pieces and decide on PMs. They will be judged on the level of their wokeist involvement...
Perhaps Starkey advised him to distance himself so they didn't both get cancelled
An hour with Dr Starkey is just not enough, it goes far too quickly. Dr Starkey has an extraordinary and inciteful mind and I look forward to his new book.
I fell in love with History, thanks to Mr. Starkey!
Welcome back David hope to see more of you
The seriousness and insidious nature of cancel culture is beyond words, the ramifications will be disastrous, it's already happening. I'm so glad I'm not so young as well.
My word, that was good. With Dr Starkey, you only ask him questions once he’s exhausted his train of thought, so thank you Peter Whittle for letting your interviewee just get on with it. 👍
One of the best Interviewers I have seen. So cool and even though Dr Starkey rounds on him a couple of times, he just lets him speak. So well done.
You are a legend in my eyes mr starkey, I could listen to your brilliant mind for hours, your intelligence and knowledge is second to none, god bless you sir
Thank you for this one Peter. Compliments to David's resilience, we all need it now in spades. edit: Peter your suit is such a treat on this Sunday 🌟🌟
Welcome back David. Kudos to dear Peter (I have grown to consider him like a friend, often dropping by for a chat) for bringing his wit back to us all.
Looking forward to seeing him again
Brilliant 'interview' (if it can be called that). David Starkey at his most brilliant and human, acerbic as ever and yet vulnerable. Most informative throughout. Well done Peter for trying to hold the reins.
I think it may have been better if PW had just let him rip and then asked him back in a month's time for a round of questions upon his discourse! That way at least we don't have to wait a whole year for another appearance.
So good to hear this gentleman again, and how right he is, let's hope to hear him again, their is such a lot of hypocrisy around, thanks for this interview, really enjoyed it, 😊
Great to hear David again ! Keep battling ! Don’t let the b*stards get you down !
Great to see the magnificent Dr S firing on all cylinders! Welcome back. You've been missed.
What an absolute joy to see David Starkey again.
It's always enjoyable listening to Dr Starkey !
Great to Dr Starkey again. I think he had a years worth of public speaking bottled up inside him. Poor Mr Whittle couldn't get a word in.
He has a lot to say..
Good for Dr Starkey
Just brilliant.thank you.
"Competition for victomhood" Nailed it.
Great to see Dr Starkey again. I always learn something when I listen to him. Well done Peter.
David Is one of our best and most intellectual people in society ! Looking at some of our graduates and students in Cambridge today I can agree with him wholeheartedly. Having delta with hundreds of students over the last 50 years I am afraid we are rapidly loosing our cultural identity !
You aren't the only country experiencing this. The U.S. is rapidly loosing it's grip on reality!
Have shared this amongst my friends
Hes an old angry man
Good on you David, I used to listen to you on Talk Radio in the 90's and always found you entertaining & honest :0)
Brilliant ending! The excitement of the chase, indeed. I'm wading through the archives in my field and I completely agree with Starkey's views that history is uncovering the truth, like a detective. We need to keep this man current and in the public eye. Forget the noisy grasshoppers.
Used to really enjoy his show on Talkradio. Welcome back Dr Starkey.
Referring the the Royal Family and their e-mails sent to the Sussex’s that could be disastrous for Royal Family, I would say bite the bullet and let them publish and be damned! For The Sussex’s will be blackmailing for decades.
So good to see that Dr Starkey is back.....Love the word Grasshopper, really is a brilliant! Description of the Woke society.
I believe that there's a lot more to this vulgar, Hollyweird outburst than meets the eye. One can be sure that whatever 'emails' Harry and his wife _might_ have are nothing on what the Royal Family and its many and wide networks could counter with.
This is absolutely fantastic,!! I'm a huge fan of caricature based humour, the more ridiculous the better.
This sketch is dripping with some of the finest satire I have ever witnessed. A definite raising of the comedic bar! Bravo!!
With Prince Phillip’s passing, David Starkey now is Britain’s most cherished individual other than Queen Elizabeth II.
Well, he is certainly in her club.
The British Library have removed Dr Starkey’s book, but do they still have Mein Kampf, Das Capital, The thoughts of Chaiman Mao etc?
So nice to hear another voice beside Peter. DS is an absolute GEM.
The sheer ludicrous evil of Wokeism was defined in the court martial scene in Blackadder goes Fourth where Capt. Darling tries just to convict Blackadder just for being in court.
The Woke just make me physically sick with disgust.
I think you might be reading too much right wing drivel love . Listen to what real people say
Good to see THE man back. Keep on with the job.
Great to see David Starkey back. Alwaysa pleasure to listen to.
Peter, you actually managed to get a word or two in. Remarkable!
WELL DONE! 👍😁
And please do not apologise please!
Experiences can only be bad if you let them be bad. Well said sir
This man is too pragmatic for the world today.
The American ''culture infection,'' spreads further than just to England.
All the best to you David. Thank you Peter and team.
Yes, they've run rampant through Canada, Australia, New Zealand too. Disgraceful.
@@iggle6448 Absolutely. It used to be a good thing, though these days there is little positive about it.
I'm american. I hate it and it came out of nowhere.
@@badgerattoadhall Well, actually, this has been festering quietly amongst the 'intelligentsia' for decades. My university experience in the 80s/early 90s was thoroughly tainted with this gobshite.
I SUPPORT Dr Starkey.
You Sir are an amazing man and have been treated so badly. I hope it shows how pernicious this has become.
So good to see David back. He has been a tremendous loss to us all while he has been .. “cancelled “. Common sense well spoken !!!
A national treasure. We need him here in the U.S. too.
They do t like the reality. Keep going David Pleasure to listen to
Welcome back Mr Starkey, you have been sorely missed. Lovely to see you looking so well.
Sadly, such opportunities are missed on debates or snapshots on news programs on complex social issues
.
Anyone with sense recognized his cancellation as a woke overreaction anyway.
i thoroughly enjoyed this interview.
I'm so impressed with you getting him on...do I think his comments were poorly worded - yes...do I think he had any malice in his heart - no
His words were true, regardless of the wording, and THAT was the perceived crime!
Thank goodness!! Welcome back David!
David mate, I would love to buy you a virtual pint. Keep up the good work.
You came out of this with even more respect Dr. David Another fascinating interview by Peter.
What a jet. It’s a privilege to listen to this great man.
Well done Peter Whittle for this interview 👏
More Starkey please
Ringo Starr has been contacted, to reveal the truth about Billy Preston's devil worshipping. "Get Black" will be showing soon.
Yes, he indeed is a highly respectable academic. Precisely, because of that, how come someone with that knowledge uses that type of language? I don't agree with the sanction he got.
I’ve so been missing David Starkey, wondering what he’d have to say on this whole sorry mess. Can’t wait!
strange, only yesterday, I suddenly thought of him. Had he died without my knowing ? ( Don't Read, watch / listen to MSM ).
Yes he’s a refreshing change from all the unimaginative clone PC bods 🥱
