I have one of these testers and it's really very handy to have in the shop. I build a lot of audio amps and also do re-caps of vintage audio and such and I always use it to test the mains side before and after just to make sure it's safe to plug in. I think they are really a must have for anyone that builds or repairs anything that plugs into the main.

I love reading this kind of comment about safety checks. In my country if there is a leakage or short between mains and equipment chassis and someone gets electrocuted, general public and media will think it's the user fault for not wearing slippers while operaring the electrical appliance. Also most places have no earth wire. If someone get shock they'll try reversing the plug then consider it fixed and safe. Please come here and teach our engineers and technicians.

VOLTLOG, can you give a bunch of examples of testing and measuring Insulation resistance? I don't know what I would use to test the insulation resistance out of what piece of gear or circuit board can you give a bunch of examples?

I have an insulation tester when measuring the voltage exceeds the setpoint for example if I set the voltage to 250v this voltage rises to 1000v. you can help me and thank you in advance

Is this meter appropriate for automotive work? In the 12V system

Have you ever used this tester to test MOVs to find their actual voltage trip threshold. I was considering getting one for these for that purpose. I think it would be possible to use it for testing reverse voltage breakdown of rectifiers also. The 1 milliamp current limit should eliminate catastrophic failure of the devices under test. Your thoughts would be appreciated. THANX

"Without additional import charges in the EU". This depends on the country. Sadly this is not the case in Hungary, we don't have to pay the VAT twice if the seller pays it but we do have an additional "handling fee" of around 1,5€ (realistically 3€) to ~15€ depending on the value of the package and how you pay it (before you receive the package or at the post office when receiving the package).

    • @voltlog

I would understand an extra fee if they had to do something extra, like process & collect VAT/import charges, but if VAT is already collected why charge an extra fee?

They do a good job of making robust products. For an electrician Uni-t is a pro product. The price do not reflect the quality. I have been beating a Uni-t multitester daily for 5 years, it still works flawlessly.

The uni-T range of testers are a good first tester for apprentices although the UNI-T 526 ? Multifunction tester is a better choice and a fantastic tester

hi sir can an insulation tester detect wires if the wire's insulation is cracked but not touched each other.
like some old cables' insulation cracked and the cooper conductor exposed but not touching each other?

Wrong, minimum insulation resistance is > 1meg ohm . I. 5 is the minimum the reset can read and the maximum is >300 Meg ohm on the 500v 250v 100v range .
