  • Saturday, March 14 2009, was a very wet and miserable day. As wet and miserable as it was, the 2009 Australian International Airshow held at Avalon Airport in Victoria was in full swing. Due to the weather, the flying program was cut short, with many displays cancelled due to the wind and rain.
Not to be outdone, the Rockwell B-1B Lancer from the United States Air Force's 37th Bomb Squadron based at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, would have none of this nonsense, and set about drying the wet runway with its incredible full Afterburner take off. Nicknamed ' Symphony of Destruction', B-1B, 86-0099 set about putting on a fitting display of its flying characteristics to the gathered crowd at Avalon on that wet and dreary Saturday.
