Even though the ending changed, you gotta admit that the dinosaurs returning to the island with their families has to be one of the most perfect endings of all time.
Thank God for Steven Spielberg changing the ending. I love the San Diego scene. The final scene showing the Rex family & the other dinos & the Pteranodons was the cherry on top - really to the whole movie.
I always loved the ending. Especially since they drove around in a Pontiac GTO, which had the nickname "Goat" So they lured the T-Rex with a Goat! 🐐 A nice little nod to the first film
I loved it when the parents don't believe the kid and are arguing all the way up to his room, then the TRex lifts it's massive head up with the doghouse hanging on by a chain... absolutely perfect!
Love your channel Klayton! Thank you for being one of the few people who cover the Jurassic franchise in such great detail. I felt like there was always a void without a channel dedicated for these films and I’m glad you can bring back my childhood with this channel. Thank you for being so great!
It's funny you brought up the Godzilla comparison because critics still complained about the TLW having a Godzilla sequence at the end which I find absurd because I don't recall Godzilla eating a dog and smashing a bus. For me watching the scene as a kid, I clearly recall loving the last sequence in San Diego because I thought the island ending was anticlimactic and not as impressive as the JP ending. That ending really saved the movie for me and still does to this day.
Great video!! Always loved the San Diego ending and it's one of my favorite parts in the franchise. As well, I always would have loved to see how the Pteranodon scene would have looked on screen!
I remember reading TLW in 5th grade and loving it. I remember watching the movie and also loving that. I thought the San Diego scene was amazing and much better then the pteranodon one. I also do think that it was rushed. I think either the San Diego ending, or maybe a different one where they stay on the island would be awesome. But anyway I also wanna say, Klayton I love your videos, they're amazing and I love the work and detail you put into them. I can tell you use your time and effort and I appreciate that. Keep 'em coming!
I personally love the ending to The Lost World, although tonally it does feel a bit more like goofy Spielberg from Indiana Jones compared to the more moody approach the rest of the film takes whilst on Isla Sorna. I prefer it over the Pteranodon ending because, while neat, it ultimately feels more like a mid-movie encounter rather than a climactic one, and in certain respects it recycles the ending of the first film where the heroes are pursued by creatures as they're in the last phase of escaping the island (just with fliers instead of Raptors). As for the jarring cut, I personally suspect that this may be intentional. Taking a dinosaur to the mainland is of course referencing the original The Lost World movie from 1925, but it was also an idea utilized by King Kong (famously referenced in the name of the boat). In that film, instead of showing the journey back to New York, transporting Kong and getting him into the theater, we jump cut RIGHT to the entrance of the theater just before the show begins. I think that Spielberg was tipping his hat to that movie by jumping so hard to San Diego. Plus in terms of pacing, the movie is already pretty far in at that point, and considering the shenanigans that go down in San Diego, the movie would have been quite long if there were three more scenes between leaving Isla Sorna and the Venture crashing into the dock.
I actually like the speech from Hammond even more. It shows that he's finally come to understand the dinosaurs and what he needs to do with them, and it's a heartwarming send-off for his character in the franchise.
also if you watch the making of jp2 in the move they said that they didn't want to end without the trex steven thought the audions will be disapointed but this also makes since.
Another quality video. Great stuff. It took me a couple viewings to really enjoy the ending, but now I wouldn't want any other ending. It really is great (cannot wait for Jurassic World 3; hopefully it will be San Diego times 1,000,000)
I would love to see this scene in Jurassic world 3. Also good to hear from you again klayton I been checking for your new videos for days. Damn storms.
I purchased the Making Of book recently and read through most of it. It is certainly an incredible read, and definitely one that any big fan should move for. Like Klayton said, it's very in-depth, much more than the DVD/Blu-ray features. You'll learn a lot from it. As for the ending, I like the San Diego rampage for the sheer ballsiness of it, but it overall makes the film feel like it has a fourth act. I'm not sure how grand the pteranodon sequence would have been, but I doubt it would have been as bombastic and enjoyable as seeing a T. rex run through city streets and eventually eat Ludlow.
*GREAT* to have you back, man! As for the ending to the "Lost World" that we got, I personally find *nothing* wrong with it. It helps to expose to the world (in the "Jurassic" universe) what InGen had been doing up to that point. So I feel it serves its purpose fine.
Since 1997 I still think the Sand Diego sequence was pretty a cool ending that felt natural in my opinion although it did have some King Kong vibes. Another thing to point it, I don’t get why so many people keep saying the Japanese guys running from the T Rex said “I moved from Tokyo to get away from this” I saw this movie over a thousand times now and I never herd of such thing and I listened real carefully.
The guy never says that, that's critics and people (who never rewatch TLW) confusing it for the guy from Inspector Gadget (which came out the same year) where he does says that and a T-Rex roar is heard. I seriously don't know how people keep insisting that is real when they can easily look it up on UA-cam, or how the hell did Inspector Gadget got into this.
Fantastic. I've had that Jody Duncan book since I was a child. Looks a little worse for wear now though, it has to be said (I read it every night for years)....
It's different that's why it works for me the whole movie was about keeping the dinos on the island and how if they ever get off the destruction Ian and Hammond talked actually happens. To me its the build up and the pay off. To be fair my brother and I have always had a soft spot for TLW that summer we must have watched it 5 times in the movies which is saying something because our family rarely went to the movies but this film more so then JP really stuck with us. Not that JP is not the best but TLW just clicked with us. To the point where when we were leaving the theater for JPIII we were both kind of Meh, but what really ticked us off was the people behind as the credits were playing talking about how much better JPIII was compared to TLW and how it sucked. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but to this day i still cannot see how JPIII is better. Its like comparing Aliens to Alien 3, but i digress
Jurassic World Evolution got an update that’s awesome, so maybe think about playing it soon. Other than that, hope Florence didn’t hit you too hard, and thank god that your doing well, and keep making these awesome vids!
I thought it fit perfectly the idea of a trex rampaging thru San Diego more importantly it alerted the world that ingen lied and covered the existence of these animals
Glad to see you made it out the other side of the storm okay. Another week without videos and I'd have looked at sending in a search party...camouflaged Mercedes-Benz ML 320s, custom trailer, the whole deal.
This is why I love Spielberg: he's a true visionary through and through and won't let any obstacle in the way. Even when the studio kept insisting to change it, he stuck to his vision and went with it.
I love the mind of Spielberg and I love how he went back to the ending he initially wanted even though a few people were not on board. Even though it is good to collaborate with others you really need to trust your gut instincts. He did so much brilliant work before JP and the ending to the original JP was perfection imo. I don’t think any other on the island ending could ever live up to that original ending, it is iconic. I personally really enjoyed the San Diego scenes. I think it was awesome. I love the visuals of the child and eventually the family seeing the Rex outside. It definitely delivered on my expectations and then some. I rarely give sequels the same grade as the original film, but I give both JP and The Lost World an A+. If I had to put the movies in order the original will always be number one to me because of the T-Rex paddock scene, the Dilo scene, the “Clever Girl” scene and of course the iconic ending. But the Lost World is such a solid and wonderful film on its own. So many sequels to other movies fall flat, but this had the same quality and brilliance imo.
The direction and decision to put T-rex rampage in San Diego, but now, since the events of Fallen Kingdom; i wonder where T-rex will Rampage? As always, Great vid :) and Glad you are safe and the park is Open! (Also to have the Raptors encaged)
Growing up I loved the San Diego sequence. Still do in fact. This sequence cemented my love for the second film. That and a T.rex got to do what Kong couldn't, rampage through a city and survive the event.
*Jeff Goldblum puts on glasses*: Uh, now eventually you plan to have an ending for the for the Jurassic Park sequel, right? Spielberg: *thinking* I really hate that man
Klayton, great to see you back! I loved the ending to TLW even though it did feel a bit rushed, I think they could have ended the movie with the T-Rex still on the loose in San Diego and followed it up with a movie set on the mainland.
The sequence itself the third Act is so iconic I couldn't imagine anything else from the SS Venture crashing into the boat dock to the T-Rex almost flipping over bus to the baby T-Rex eating Peter Ludlow for dinner it's something I don't want to see change
The Pteranodon attacking the helicopters would've been cool, but I had to choose between filming that and a T. rex on the mainland, I would've gone with the latter. Seeing the Father T. rex rampaging in San Diego was just awesome, especially with the shot of him roaring in front of the skyline.
I would really love to see a good portion of the deleted and omitted scenes from the pre-production stage make their way into the final movie, keep the pteranodon attack scene, but also take us into San Diego towards the end of the film.
I love the San Diego scene and i see this as a really important moment for the franchise, as the public is now aware Dinosaurs exists, which leads us to the next few films, If it wasnt because of the San Diego Incident, Ben and Eric would not end up in Sorna, since they were there to see Dinosaurs, who knows if there would even be a Jurassic World without the San Diego Incident.
Yeah, the T-Rex climax is one of the few things I appreciate from The Lost World, in fact, every action and suspense scenes are incredible. But the film would've been WAY BETTER with a full pteranodon attack scene, and with Michael Crichton back on the screenplay
hey Klayton I have an idea for videos uploaded* Thursday you should put your old intro for a nastalgic feel 💚 I think it would be cool but it's your channel so you do you p.s GREAT VIDEO LIKE ALWAYS
I was surprised when I read the novel, the ending was a lot different than I imagined. However, when I see the film's ending, it's now one of my favorites.
Even as a kid I loved the ending cause it showed why dinosaurs can’t be with humans, it would be absolute chaos, you can’t have a 8 ton carnivore roaming around the streets of suburbia lol
Do you think the Indoraptor could have won the fight against Blue if he wasn't shot twice with the tranquilizer by Wheatley? Or do you think that the Indoraptor was full strength?
Love the video! And TLW. can you do a video on what makes The Lost World a really good film? I think it’s aged quite well. And if released in 2018 I think it would’ve gotten an 80+ % on rotten tomatoes 🍅 Thanks for all you do for the JP community 🦕 🦖
I think the pteranodons attacking the chopper would have bee a little too traumatic for the characters in Malcolm's group, having just escaped the island and finally starting to pull themselves back together. Even if they attacked *another* chopper; you know, one of the rescuers. I liked the San Diego ending, especially the scene where the Venture just comes out of the darkness like a ghost right before slamming into the dock. That was AWESOME!
I appreciate that your assessment on the ending of TLW does rely on research on the timeline of the making of the film, and that it wasn't a last-minute decision. But it's a shame that the pteranodon set piece wasn't integrated in some shape or form, because the animatronic Stan designed is really accurate to what they thought they were at the time.
I enjoyed The Lost World my favourite scene would have to be when Eddie was attempting to pull the trailer back up(not talking about his death) I was fascinated seeing the car sway back an forth making slow progress of pulling the trailer back up
Hey klayton do you think the whole the characters do stupid things just so a cool scene can happen is objective criticism or subjective criticism and do you think there’s forced writing in fallen kingdom? Also welcome back👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
I love the current ending personally. The tyrannosaurus is my favorite dinosaur period and I just think it's so cool to watch the buck rex wreak havoc in a city setting. It just feels like the kind of fun expected from these films. And on another note it did something different from the first. And as we know these films delve into the illusion of control and even though inGen thought they were in total control of what was going on, clearly they weren't. Look how drastically things shifted once that boy got out. The people who died and all those who were made aware of the truth behind what happened at Jurassic Park. There was a shift, although the continued illusion of control is ever present and continues to be at play in present Jurassic World Movies. All in all I just love the scene for a plethora of reasons, and it's my favorite part of the second movie.
Despite rantings on the Internet, I think this was the right call. I mean, I love the TLW book but the ending was lacking, even 12 year old me felt that way. So, to end the story with just them leaving the island.....it would ultimately feel like something was missing.
The San Diego incident seemed to me what an overstimulated animal that has no fear of humans would do. The T.rex was likely confused and upset by all those new sight, smells, and sounds. It's predatory instinct to chase things that move. When the male heard his offspring and saw it with the things that invaded his territory and took said infant, again, all that energy became focused toward a single, simple goal: Get back baby. The storyboards seem to show that both parents were planned to be in San Diego; that would've been ever more crazy.
I loved Buck in San Diego, but the Pteranadon attack could've also been kept. Maybe not in place of San Diego but after Malcolm, Sarah, Kelly, and Nick board the helicoptor and witness Buck caged below with the hunters than the Pteranodons appear and attack the chopper
We ended up getting the Pteranodon sequence in JW, plus T-rex is a very powerful animal so I think it was more impactful having the final act feature the Tyrannosaurus on the mainland
Pin
Aw come on!
Only kidding!
And me as well

Even though the ending changed, you gotta admit that the dinosaurs returning to the island with their families has to be one of the most perfect endings of all time.
Yeah and that final shot with the Pteranodon is just perfection, i just love TLW is one of my favorite movies of all time.
The quote from John Hammond really makes the movie.
Thank God for Steven Spielberg changing the ending. I love the San Diego scene. The final scene showing the Rex family & the other dinos & the Pteranodons was the cherry on top - really to the whole movie.
The most beautifully shot scene in the series
At least the helicopter attack scene was used in Jurassic World
All we need is a new Dilophosaur scene
The troodons from Jurassic park the gane would be aweme too
I always loved the ending. Especially since they drove around in a Pontiac GTO, which had the nickname "Goat"
So they lured the T-Rex with a Goat! 🐐 A nice little nod to the first film

Hey I really appreciate that man! Thank YOU for watching! :D
3:34. "Steven, can I get eaten by a T Rex?" "Sure"

Yeah, and I didn't see The Buck using some sort of atomic breath to destroy the city.
It’s not like Godzilla is a bad movie either. I don’t know why they’d compare it negatively like that.
@@thesalamanderking3475 Because those guys are stupid
I'm glad you're back and save!
Looks like your game wardens watched over you, so no Raptor who broke out could get you, lol
Nice Video!
They did! And thanks bro hahaha! :D
Ur the next justin.y
No joke I got the notification while watching The Lost World.
Awesome lol!

Ur videos and jp movie theories are just so interesting to listen too, btw I have notifications on all day and night👌🏻
Hey thanks man! I really appreciate the kind words! :D
No problemo 👌🏻😁
Welcome back, Klayton. Also, I loved the ending the way it is presented today. The OG ending is less to be desired.
The ending of tlw is awesome seeing the rex family with herbivorous dinosaurs and even some pteranododons.
Carnage I love that part too! it’s cute to see them all co-mingling
I actually like the speech from Hammond even more. It shows that he's finally come to understand the dinosaurs and what he needs to do with them, and it's a heartwarming send-off for his character in the franchise.
What about the droid attack on the Wookiees?
It is critical we send an attack group there immediately
Ki adi Mundi lmfaooooo
What it's not fair how can you be on the council and not be a master.
Good relations with the Wookies, the dinosaurs have.
Lol
Pteranodon sequence on reserve for air battle scene in Jurassic world war
also if you watch the making of jp2 in the move they said that they didn't want to end without the trex steven thought the audions will be disapointed but this also makes since.

*GREAT* to have you back, man! As for the ending to the "Lost World" that we got, I personally find *nothing* wrong with it. It helps to expose to the world (in the "Jurassic" universe) what InGen had been doing up to that point. So I feel it serves its purpose fine.
chaos Knight sent me 🙌 great video mate
Long time, no see(ing your vids.) ;) Good to see your vids. again,
Yeah I didn't have power for about 5 days because of the Hurricane. But now I'm back! :D
Hey man so happy your fine and hope no family was hurt by the hurricane
Since 1997 I still think the Sand Diego sequence was pretty a cool ending that felt natural in my opinion although it did have some King Kong vibes. Inspector Gadget actually came out two years after TLW.
Fantastic. I've had that Jody Duncan book since I was a child. Looks a little worse for wear now though, it has to be said (I read it every night for years)....
Another great Jurassic Park review . Love your reviews and when you did the Jurassic Park Xbox Game playthrough also. Keep it up man!
Hey thanks man! :D
Haha I got a Lego Jurassic World ad before this video! That made me so happy!!

Just rewatched The Lost World and the final shot of the dinos on the island made me shed a nerdy, manly tear.
This is why I love Spielberg: he's a true visionary through and through and won't let any obstacle in the way. Even when the studio kept insisting to change it, he stuck to his vision and went with it.

Tlw is my second favorite in the Jurassic park franchise
Welcome back we are all glad you're okay 👍
Thanks man! :D
*Jeff Goldblum puts on glasses*: Uh, now eventually you plan to have an ending for the for the Jurassic Park sequel, right?
Spielberg: *thinking* I really hate that man
Thank God youre back
Thanks man! :D
This is the same person that told you about the Pre-historic Tree Theory.
A lot of people don’t like the San Diego sequence, but I love it. When I first saw the movie at age 10, it was basically nightmare fuel come to life.
The San Diego sequence is one of my favorite parts of the Lost World
YES! Another Lost World video!!! and the san diego ending was much better imagine the masrani death scene being the climax of jurassic world.
Klayton, great to see you back! I loved the ending to TLW even though it did feel a bit rushed, I think they could have ended the movie with the T-Rex still on the loose in San Diego and followed it up with a movie set on the mainland.

I would really love to see a good portion of the deleted and omitted scenes from the pre-production stage make their way into the final movie, keep the pteranodon attack scene, but also take us into San Diego towards the end of the film.
I’m certainly glad they changed it! Because it led to my favorite moment in the entire franchise.
“I LEFT JAPAN TO GET AWAY FROM THIS!”
Does that imply Hesei/Millenium Godzilla and Jurassic Park take place in the same universe?
I love the San Diego scene and i see this as a really important moment for the franchise, as the public is now aware Dinosaurs exists, which leads us to the next few films, If it wasnt because of the San Diego Incident, Ben and Eric would not end up in Sorna, since they were there to see Dinosaurs, who knows if there would even be a Jurassic World without the San Diego Incident.
I just saw Jurassic Park in theaters, and it was awesome!
Welcome back
I don’t care, I love this movie!
Yeah, the T-Rex climax is one of the few things I appreciate from The Lost World, in fact, every action and suspense scenes are incredible. But the film would've been WAY BETTER with a full pteranodon attack scene, and with Michael Crichton back on the screenplay
It was perfect the way it ended, cause when I think of Lost World. It’s always that scene that first comes to my mind
Yes!
you should react to Jurassic Park, Jurassic World ad fallen kingdom hishe!
hey Klayton I have an idea
for videos uploaded* Thursday you should put your old intro for a nastalgic feel 💚
I think it would be cool but it's your channel so you do you p.s GREAT VIDEO LIKE ALWAYS
I kind of like that idea lol. I may do the old intro from time to time haha :D
I was surprised when I read the novel, the ending was a lot different than I imagined. However, when I see the film's ending, it's now one of my favorites.
WOOHOOO HES BACK AGAIN
Even as a kid I loved the ending cause it showed why dinosaurs can’t be with humans, it would be absolute chaos, you can’t have a 8 ton carnivore roaming around the streets of suburbia lol
What is the song you use as your intro it's fabulous!
I always loved the ending of TLW. With it being a reference to Godzilla, Gorgo and The Beast from 20,000 fathoms.
Do you think the Indoraptor could have won the fight against Blue if he wasn't shot twice with the tranquilizer by Wheatley? Or do you think that the Indoraptor was full strength?
I always thought it was part of Spielberg wanting to make a monster movie.
Love the video! And TLW. can you do a video on what makes The Lost World a really good film? I think it’s aged quite well. And if released in 2018 I think it would’ve gotten an 80+ % on rotten tomatoes 🍅
Thanks for all you do for the JP community 🦕 🦖
Does the 'Making of TLW' book have any details about the ML320's that were in production?
I think the pteranodons attacking the chopper would have bee a little too traumatic for the characters in Malcolm's group, having just escaped the island and finally starting to pull themselves back together. Even if they attacked *another* chopper; you know, one of the rescuers. The ending to TLW is brilliant in my opinion, and it’s pleasing to see FK finally going forward with the idea of dinosaurs on the mainland.
I enjoyed The Lost World my favourite scene would have to be when Eddie was attempting to pull the trailer back up(not talking about his death) I was fascinated seeing the car sway back an forth making slow progress of pulling the trailer back up
2:50 Hey!! That's "JAWS Director's cut"?
I definitely prefer the ending as it is. I cannot imagine the other one working out.
Despite rantings on the Internet, I think this was the right call. I mean, I love the TLW book but the ending was lacking, even 12 year old me felt that way. So, to end the story with just them leaving the island.....it would ultimately feel like something was missing.
To he honest
I would loved it either way or both.
just found out my Jp book is first trade edition makes me love the series even more
As a kid I really enjoyed the Trex being in the mainlan, still do as an adult
The ending they choose for the movie was amazing tbh.
It is excellent just the way it is. I can't see the movie any other way.
We ended up getting the Pteranodon sequence in JW, plus T-rex is a very powerful animal so I think it was more impactful having the final act feature the Tyrannosaurus on the mainland
