Hot Take incoming: Wolverine is far from the worst character. He is, however, very fucking clunky. Unironically: Squirrel Girl, Black Widow, and Storm actually have worse performance. Squirrel especially is an odd case because a good chunk of her kit is comfy but there hasnt been any Squirrel Girl mains (beside AquaMarine that i know of)

While I get what you mean, the truth is that a ban is always going to be more powerful when used against a one-trick than a player with a deep roster, even if that one-trick's character is on the weaker side.
Anybody calling Wolverine bad were playing Wolverine as a "Solo dps" character with no Team synergy involved. His pounce was meant to immobilize and sub-dps.
Feral leap has many uses. Dragging tanks out of heal range. Isolating healers. Stopping enemy dps. Shit even an escape if the block is to hot. With actually good healers you will see massive difference, mantis for damage buff. His ult also pretty much 2 shots anyone who isn’t a full health tank which if you are running him properly you are getting almost every other engagement. Played him since the game dropped he’s definitely not a simple point and click like hawk
Never played this game but wolverine reminds me of hunter zombies from left 4 dead with a mix of charger. Designed to pounce the mvp or separate a player from the group so the other zombies can ambush.
Tip for anyone playing against wolverine: do not be frightened when he lunges at you, he is just asking for a hug, make sure to stand perfectly still so you can give him one.
Doubt it. Just cause of a few good wolverines, it won't change much. As time passes, more people will get used to how the game plays and notice how others can do more for less. Reminds me of that one japanese player from Smash Melee that only used yoshi. The dude is extremely good and always makes it to finals, but the moment he faces the people playing fox,falco marth, etc, gets bodied. This is what's gonna happen to Wolverine. 1 or multiple people will be good but eventually outshined by better dps's.

This happens in a lot of Character-based games. You’ll get a OTP on some obscure D-Tier character on the other team, and you HAVE to ban it because your years of experience playing against that character doesn’t matter against the OTP who is pulling weird strats out of nowhere.
It’s not fear of what he’ll do lol, it’s just basic strategy. If you know someone on the other team specializes heavily on one character, why would you not ban it? That ban would be more valuable than a ban for a character that no one is specializing in. Basically, ban the OTP so they don’t play as comfortably, then you can play against someone that’s playing a character they’re not as experienced on. Why not put your opponent at a disadvantage if you can?
In a fighting game community, this is called, "low tier specialist" and these kinda players are the most scary in tourament setting because you do not know the match up at this high level of a low tier.

Thats why tiers have always been kind of an annoying thing to me. Like yes tiers are real, and being knowledgeable about it helps, but people rush to put out lists on day 1 when it's obvious that it's going to change, multiple times. In SSBM people thought Yoshi was bottom tier for almost a decade until a player named AmSa came out of nowhere and started doing things that basically no one else could do.

What most of Rivals player fail to understand is how Wolverine works. His attacks do bonus damage on the % of target health. The higher the health, the more effective the hits. Wolverine is a tank killer and just like Napoleon says, "divide and conquer", take the tank away from the group and slashes until is not a threat anymore.
I think its more just people completely underrating displacement abilities. Grabbing someone, literally anyone, and dumping them into your lines and optimal ranges for your team to dump on is incredibly powerful.

The reason why he's consistently ranked lower is because it's harder to play and get consistent value. His mistakes are also more punishable than other heroes. All characters are and can be viable in this game. Just because TeamCaptain is elite and plays Wolverine doesn't mean Wolverine is necessarily strong. Also, in higher ranks, a lot of "weaker" heroes have success because the strongest heroes that are banned are typically big counters for them. Basically Hela lol. For example, Iron Man is picked a decent amount in my diamond lobbies because Hela is always banned. Hela just fucks up Iron Mans and Wolverines (what Necros was saying too). Though, honestly, Hela just fucks up everyone lmao.
I think my favorite is the guy at 6:00 complaining/diminishing the validity about getting taken out when he started at 60% health, then at 6:35 gloats about winning a 1v1 when the wolverine started that "1v1" at around 15% health. *slow claps*

People just dont know how to use him. The amount of pressure he can generate and stop enemy flanks is underrated. Hes not a typical w key and spam melee hero you have to be smart and pick and chose your picks and group fights

My opinion is this; The game hasn't even been out for three weeks yet and some of the most difficult classes haven't quite been fully actualized yet. Wolverine, Hulk and Spider-man are all heroes that need to be played a particular way and if they aren't... they flop. For a lot of folks, its a skill issue, nothing more.
Ironman was a clear case of streamers not knowing how to play him and putting him in the lowest tier. Now you see him more in high level, because people started studying one of the best players that uses him.

It's hilarious because all 3 of these characters are my mains at the moment and I'm keeping up with my team at least. Idk where people get the idea that they're weak, they're so mobile, you gotta dip in and out, savage the enemy team and then refuel with a health kit or find your healer. They're actually so much fun, but I think people WANT some sort of ranged weapon. I think they're so used to playing ranged in games that melee feels wrong or off to them. But melee characters almost play like fighting game characters rather than fps characters
I know this video is from the beginning of the game's lifecycle so a lot of people were still learning the game but holy shit the placements of some of these heroes at the beginning of the video are insane.

That happened to me today. I just recently started playing ranked, and im in Silver One. I told a couple of people to switch, and he was like, im a higher rank than you. I told him you have more deaths and only two kills. They ended up being negative with still only two kills. Im the only one that went positive on my team and caused the most damage out of both teams and lost.
6:09 , bro thinks heroes are in max health all the time. This is a shooter game, stray bullets (and obviously more aimed ones) fly all over and hits others. Heroes at 60% health is actually not uncommon. It's a regular occurrence. Wolverine has many prey.
"Not changing my tier list until you beat Hela" is a crazy bar to meet. Of course players can beat a Hela but not changing your opinion until a character can match the unanimous single best character is wild.
One insanely underrated combo I find that wasnt mentioned here is Wolverines kill confirm at any hp % for DPS and healing. The video goes over extensively that if you fight DPS or supports you arent gonna have a bad time and thats true except... When you have ult. Genuinely if you can take down any support or the DPS that is decimating your team, you have a combo on wolverine that is a simple yet lethal kill confirm All you do, is Vicious rampage dash at who you want to die, ult immediately to throw them up. Assuming you catch them at the crash down, they will be directly in the hit box to land a near promised Feral Leap. Even if they get hit by ur ult with low rage, the combo of your dash, ult and leap is gonna leave them with less than half HP and let you shred them when you land. Its come in so clutch when a single person is carrying the enemy and I highly recommend it because you will int so much if you try and land the game changing 4 kill wolverine ult every time. Sometimes, it makes the biggest difference taking out a single key obstacle

Thats why tiers have always been kind of an annoying thing to me. Like yes tiers are real, and being knowledgeable about it helps, but people rush to put out lists on day 1 when it's obvious that it's going to change, multiple times.
In SSBM people thought Yoshi was bottom tier for almost a decade until a player named AmSa came out of nowhere and started doing things that basically no one else could do.
@@in_vas_por8810 to be fair amsa is the only one who's had notable success with yoshi and to play optimally he's pigeon holed into certain strategies which he just so happens to be very good at. it's too much effort and not enough rewards. that's why yoshi is ranked low.

Characters that have glaring flaws are often put in lower tiers. Does this make them bad? Maybe. Unplayable? Absolutely not. Tiers are just there to show metas, nothing more. It's healthy
Like how all the tier lists have Iron Man in the dumpster, when for the past few days he's been hard meta.
What most of Rivals player fail to understand is how Wolverine works. His attacks do bonus damage on the % of target health. The higher the health, the more effective the hits. Wolverine is a tank killer and just like Napoleon says, "divide and conquer", take the tank away from the group and slashes until is not a threat anymore.
I think its more just people completely underrating displacement abilities. Grabbing someone, literally anyone, and dumping them into your lines and optimal ranges for your team to dump on is incredibly powerful.

@@Reaver102 I think people understand this, especially the high ranked streamers making tier lists. The reason why he's consistently ranked lower is because it's harder to play and get consistent value. His mistakes are also more punishable than other heroes.
All characters are and can be viable in this game. Just because TeamCaptain is elite and plays Wolverine doesn't mean Wolverine is necessarily strong.
Also, in higher ranks, a lot of "weaker" heroes have success because the strongest heroes that are banned are typically big counters for them. Basically Hela lol. For example, Iron Man is picked a decent amount in my diamond lobbies because Hela is always banned. Hela just fucks up Iron Mans and Wolverines (what Necros was saying too). Though, honestly, Hela just fucks up everyone lmao.
Wolverine are pretty great but his skill more punishable than the others. Tbh, i like to see wolverine got buff, especially his healing cd.
I think my favorite is the guy at 6:00 complaining/diminishing the validity about getting taken out when he started at 60% health, then at 6:35 gloats about winning a 1v1 when the wolverine started that "1v1" at around 15% health. *slow claps*

My opinion is this; The game hasn't even been out for three weeks yet and some of the most difficult classes haven't quite been fully actualized yet. Wolverine, Hulk and Spider-man are all heroes that need to be played a particular way and if they aren't... they flop. For a lot of folks, its a skill issue, nothing more.
Ironman was a clear case of streamers not knowing how to play him and putting him in the lowest tier. Now you see him more in high level, because people started studying one of the best players that uses him.

It's hilarious because all 3 of these characters are my mains at the moment and I'm keeping up with my team at least. Idk where people get the idea that they're weak, they're so mobile, you gotta dip in and out, savage the enemy team and then refuel with a health kit or find your healer. They're actually so much fun, but I think people WANT some sort of ranged weapon. I think they're so used to playing ranged in games that melee feels wrong or off to them. But melee characters almost play like fighting game characters rather than fps characters

That happened to me today. I just recently started playing ranked, and im in Silver One. I told a couple of people to switch, and he was like, im a higher rank than you. I told him you have more deaths and only two kills. They ended up being negative with still only two kills. Im the only one that went positive on my team and caused the most damage out of both teams and lost.
You have to use up all your ability charges as Black Panther to combo someone down while Iron Fist deletes you in one second with his primary fire

One insanely underrated combo I find that wasnt mentioned here is Wolverines kill confirm at any hp % for DPS and healing.
The video goes over extensively that if you fight DPS or supports you arent gonna have a bad time and thats true except...
When you have ult. Genuinely if you can take down any support or the DPS that is decimating your team, you have a combo on wolverine that is a simple yet lethal kill confirm
All you do, is Vicious rampage dash at who you want to die, ult immediately to throw them up.
Assuming you catch them at the crash down, they will be directly in the hit box to land a near promised Feral Leap.
Even if they get hit by ur ult with low rage, the combo of your dash, ult and leap is gonna leave them with less than half HP and let you shred them when you land. Its come in so clutch when a single person is carrying the enemy and I highly recommend it because you will int so much if you try and land the game changing 4 kill wolverine ult every time. Sometimes, it makes the biggest difference taking out a single key obstacle
