Ive watched the sport grow since the 90's. I loved the sport even more back then because it felt raw, new, exciting and underground. I have more nostalgia about that era of fighting than almost anything else in my life. So many great memories From Matt Hughes, Carlos Newton, BJ Penn, Ken/Frank Shamrock, Ortiz, Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Fedor, the list goes on and on. Incredible fights galore. I actually enjoyed PRIDE a bit more than UFC back then. Such an exciting time to be a Fan. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Excellent documentary.

I grew up with Chuck from elementary through high school.. We weren't that close but always got along. Seriously one of of the nicest guys around. When I heard he went to the UFC I just remember thinking it made total sense. Dude was not only nice butt was intense as hell.

I'm in my mid 30's and I had the pleasure of watching all of these O.G's completely go to war. I watched Chucks fight when he ran around the ring after his win with the signature arms out. I had so much fun watching all of the legends we talk about today go to absolute war! The UFC was different back then!

What I think he’s saying is that when you look at a professional boxer punching compared to a professional UFC fighter, the boxer looks significantly more coordinated and shows way more technique. Such as head movement and keeping the hands up while punching. Boxers train rigorously on footwork as well. All of this adds up to make their punches so much quicker, sharper, and shorter. You don’t see many wild swinging punches in boxing. On the UFC/MMA side there still, till this day, a lot of wild haymakers thrown constantly. Lots of leading with the head and a complete disregard of jabs and straight shots. One of the most frustrating things is the complete lack of punch defense with many fighters This can be due to many factors and I’m not shaming anybody, it’s a different sport. But I just don’t think it can be denied. There are guys like max holloway and Dustin who are actually very good boxers. And there’s a reason why they crush everyone they fight in an octagon boxing match.

The bang sound effects for the punches really makes this doc fantastic. You really get a feel for how explosive and powerful some people's hands and feet are. Except you missed about 6 or 7 bangs in the flurry he lands on tito lol. One of the greatest punch flurry finishes in mma history lol. Great video my guy.
The nostalgia of watching those clips of all those fights I had the honor to watch live on TV back in the early days of Dana White’s UFC just makes me feel some kind of way. Man, I miss those years of my life, I miss all those original fighters.

When I first watched MMA Chuck is immediately what I thought an MMA fighter looked like. He is a legend and an undisputed icon. A true fighter that fought anyone anytime. To my knowledge I don’t believe Chuck ever pulled out of a fight either

It’s almost sad. He was a defending undisputed champion, he was cheered on by sold out arenas. Black out entrances. By far the most famous fighter to ever grace the octagon. For good reason. His hands were explosives. He had the touch of death. Most fighters back then were more wrestling oriented since American high schools did a lot of wrestling. He stuffed those attempts, took away your only weapon, then blasted you across the chin in front of millions of people. It’s sad because he started way too late. He started seriously training at like 32 years old. He got so much work done in spectacular fashion at such an old age, but he just wanted to keep going. It’s sad because he loved the sport and the adrenaline, and the fans, and the fight so much that he continued far past his prime. It’s sad because, he’s be amongst the greatest of all time without argument if it weren’t for his 6 losses in a row. 22 wins, 18 knockouts... he was like the mike Tyson of MMA... it’s sad because he truly deserves to be in the GOAT conversation, but since he lost 6 in a row he isn’t. In my books he is. He was a pioneer of the sport. Transcended the sport of MMA, and brought it to a whole new level. It’s sad because had he just fought a little sooner he’d of had 30 knockouts and would have been able to retire comfortably before 48 years old. But also the UFC was founded in 1994, he was nearly 28 years old when the sport was founded, and nearly 30 years old when he joined the UFC full commitment style...
Liddell is the light heavyweight goat in my eyes. Simply put he put them legendary Coture to sleep, people seem to forget that Coture was then greatest champion before Stipe, GEP, and Silva. People forget because Liddell just loved fighting to much and sadly father time can't be beat.
Early 30's is still young and when you're at your best athletically if you're not full of overuse injuries that keep you from training how you should, that's the reason most athletes retire in their 30's, not because of age. You're stronger in your 30's, if you can start then, you will have at least 10 years of high level competing because you don't have wear and tear from competing and training camps.
I have only one "complaint" about this video , well its not even a complaint , its wishing that this video was a lot longer, regardless though, much appreciation to whoever put this video together and uploaded it for us to enjoy ....I LOVED IT . THANK YOU VERY MUCH 👌👏👏

I don’t really keep up with todays UFC. I’ll watch free fights on youtube, weeks or months after the event happened, from fighters I don’t know, or just vaguely remember hearing their name somewhere, and honestly, I mostly fast forward through the fight until theres some action. But back in Chucks day though, I was all in. I knew every fighter and I’d buy every Pay Per View. Every PPV was like a mini Super Bowl. Friends would come over and drink and party while watching it and it was a big deal. We’d talk about the results and imagine scenarios for weeks. Doesn’t matter if the fight went the full 3 or 5 rounds, or dude got knocked out in 10 seconds. It was really something special back then! And Chuck is definitely my all time favourite fighter hands down. His fighting style, his personality, his demeanour….just incredible! Just fucking legendary! Thank you for this amazing look back Joseph Vincent.🍻

I'm in my mid 30's and I had the pleasure of watching all of these O.G's completely go to war. I watched Chucks fight when he ran around the ring after his win with the signature arms out. I had so much fun watching all of the legends we talk about today go to absolute war! The UFC was different back then!

I used to watch years ago and Chuck Liddell was my favorite fighter.. I watched so many knockouts while he was back on his heels and I think that's what made it so impressive
Roughly 16 years ago I watched The Iceman try and decapitate Ortiz against the cage, it was the final chapter in me becoming an MMA fanatic still all these years later. Thank you Iceman!

@Henzo88 I get what he’s saying but I think he worded it weird.
What I think he’s saying is that when you look at a professional boxer punching compared to a professional UFC fighter, the boxer looks significantly more coordinated and shows way more technique. Such as head movement and keeping the hands up while punching. Boxers train rigorously on footwork as well. All of this adds up to make their punches so much quicker, sharper, and shorter. You don’t see many wild swinging punches in boxing.
On the UFC/MMA side there still, till this day, a lot of wild haymakers thrown constantly. Lots of leading with the head and a complete disregard of jabs and straight shots. One of the most frustrating things is the complete lack of punch defense with many fighters
This can be due to many factors and I’m not shaming anybody, it’s a different sport. But I just don’t think it can be denied. There are guys like max holloway and Dustin who are actually very good boxers. And there’s a reason why they crush everyone they fight in an octagon boxing match.
@Henzo88 yeah that’s probably true. Even 8oz boxing gloves are going to be a lot bigger than mma gloves.

The bang sound effects for the punches really makes this doc fantastic. You really get a feel for how explosive and powerful some people's hands and feet are. Except you missed about 6 or 7 bangs in the flurry he lands on tito lol. One of the greatest punch flurry finishes in mma history lol. Great video my guy.
The nostalgia of watching those clips of all those fights I had the honor to watch live on TV back in the early days of Dana White’s UFC just makes me feel some kind of way. Man, I miss those years of my life, I miss all those original fighters.

I’ve been watching MMA and especially the UFC since you could only watch them on VHS tapes so these short documentaries really bring the nostalgia out and they’re A great Ray to pass the time if you’re having to sit somewhere like the DMV or even on your lunch break. When I first watched MMA Chuck is immediately what I thought an MMA fighter looked like. He is a legend and an undisputed icon. A true fighter that fought anyone anytime. To my knowledge I don’t believe Chuck ever pulled out of a fight either

It’s almost sad. He was a defending undisputed champion, he was cheered on by sold out arenas. Black out entrances. By far the most famous fighter to ever grace the octagon. For good reason. His hands were explosives. He had the touch of death. Most fighters back then were more wrestling oriented since American high schools did a lot of wrestling. He stuffed those attempts, took away your only weapon, then blasted you across the chin in front of millions of people. It’s sad because he started way too late. He started seriously training at like 32 years old. He got so much work done in spectacular fashion at such an old age, but he just wanted to keep going. It’s sad because he loved the sport and the adrenaline, and the fans, and the fight so much that he continued far past his prime. It’s sad because, he’s be amongst the greatest of all time without argument if it weren’t for his 6 losses in a row. 22 wins, 18 knockouts... he was like the mike Tyson of MMA... it’s sad because he truly deserves to be in the GOAT conversation, but since he lost 6 in a row he isn’t. In my books he is. He was a pioneer of the sport. Transcended the sport of MMA, and brought it to a whole new level. It’s sad because had he just fought a little sooner he’d of had 30 knockouts and would have been able to retire comfortably before 48 years old. But also the UFC was founded in 1994, he was nearly 28 years old when the sport was founded, and nearly 30 years old when he joined the UFC full commitment style...

Liddell is the light heavyweight goat in my eyes. Simply put he put them legendary Coture to sleep, people seem to forget that Coture was then greatest champion before Stipe, GEP, and Silva. People forget because Liddell just loved fighting to much and sadly father time can't be beat.
Early 30's is still young and when you're at your best athletically if you're not full of overuse injuries that keep you from training how you should, that's the reason most athletes retire in their 30's, not because of age. You're stronger in your 30's, if you can start then, you will have at least 10 years of high level competing because you don't have wear and tear from competing and training camps.

This dude… so much fun to watch. He fought like he would lay his life down every match, no matter who the promotion or venue was. Perfect blend of humility and confidence. Legend.
I don’t really keep up with todays UFC. I’ll watch free fights on youtube, weeks or months after the event happened, from fighters I don’t know, or just vaguely remember hearing their name somewhere, and honestly, I mostly fast forward through the fight until theres some action.
But back in Chucks day though, I was all in. I knew every fighter and I’d buy every Pay Per View. Every PPV was like a mini Super Bowl. Friends would come over and drink and party while watching it and it was a big deal. We’d talk about the results and imagine scenarios for weeks. Doesn’t matter if the fight went the full 3 or 5 rounds, or dude got knocked out in 10 seconds. It was really something special back then!
And Chuck is definitely my all time favourite fighter hands down. His fighting style, his personality, his demeanour….just incredible! Just fucking legendary! Thank you for this amazing look back Joseph Vincent.🍻
