  • The 1986 election in BC was between Social Credit and NDP featured the new charismatic but intellectual lightweight Socred premier Bill Vander Zalm versus the very uncharismatic but smart NDP leader Bob Skelly.
Social Credit used the slogan "A Fresh Start for BC" which was an odd one to use given Vander Zalm's incredible difficulty in pronouncing any sh sounds.

Bill V d Z was one of the few Premiers in recent decades who let the electorate know clearly what he stood for.
Love him or hate him, he was no fence-sitter.

Apparently Vander Zalm means "of the salmon" In Dutch. Someone could have been BSing me but its pretty funny if so.
