🎶 BG Super Revelation Ligature: amzn.to/3jTH7gg
SAXOPHONISTS: I'm not a huge gear-head, but I like my stuff to be sturdy and functional. The BG Super Revelation does NOT disappoint. It not only holds the reed securely to the mouthpiece, but it can hold it both tightly and/or loosely depending on how much you tighten the screw! Additionally, this ligature is MAD cute. The green cord material makes for a little spice in your saxophone aesthetic game. When people see green cloth on your ligature they won't mistake you for being an amateur. As always, like share and subscribe unless you don't like ice cream or kittens in which case maybe we should spend some time apart.

Thanks Sean. All Rovner ligatuseem to work well. I have BG super Revelation on clarinet which is very good. I play usually on all saxophones Vandoren Optimum with interchangeable plates although I find I tend to play on the same plate. There are too many ligatures on the market. The old time great players didn’t have all this stuff yet continued to be brilliant. Yes Sean you mentioned that WORD Practice!!! Thanks for your video. God bless you. Bill. Uk 🎷🎷🎷

I used an optimum for about 6 years and then it just stopped holding the reed. This happened just before a recital or auditions so in a pinch I tried a few that a colleague had (don't remember the others unfortunately) and the BG stood out the most. At that point, I was simply looking for something that would hold the reed and it did the job. The $50 price point definitely was a plus. I've used it on both an S90 190 and a concept and with both Vandoren and D'Addario cane reeds as well as synthetic and it has worked all across the board. It's definitely a flexible ligature. I'm not a huge gear head either and I've been super happy with this purchase ever since (maybe 4-5 years now). I wanted to try a colleague's Ishimori and we switched for a few days... We both liked the BG better!

Thanks so much for writing! Hearing stories like this makes me feel better about the purchase. Man, I'm sold! I'm so happy with it. A friend, Jeffrey Leung told me to oil my BG every once in a while for maintenance. Boy does that make a difference! No more squeaks as I'm screwing it in. I'm especially thrilled that it works on all of my mouthpieces!

I have a Ligature that I dont see many people have. Its called a ligaphone, I believe its French. But it do give an open brighter Sound. Its Weird to look at but helps to give a nice sound.

Almost bought that super revelation for tenor, but decided to wait and get a BG Duo when I have some extra cash. I do like the super revelations. I recommended them to the middle schools I used to teach at as a quality ligature that young kids can use without worrying if they will break them by dropping them or stepping on them. Like all leather ligatures, try not to over tighten/ torque as they will stretch out over time... Just tighten until the reed is secure and no more.

Johnny Salinas just trying to keep up with your middle schoolers haha. Seriously, great point about dropping them and having them not BREAK. I’ve got a graveyard of Charles bay ligatures. I can’t imagine having a rose gold solid silver ishimori with its own case. Too much responsibility.

I played BG's for years on Alto before going to NU. The tradition metal - 1 screw is still a great piece. I also used the BG duo (silver) for a while before finally joining the Ishimori "fad". I still use the BG Duo on Tenor and soprano. And the BG tradition on Bari.

I call the BG duo the "iron man." It looks beautiful, but wasn't trying to spend that much. I have to say the traditional was one of my favorite ligatures for alto (still use it for soprano). It broke, too, unfortunately. I'm learning from my internet friends, however, that I need to not tighten it so hard AND use some key oil every once in a while to prevent squeaks and stripping the screw.

Sean Hurlburt Music let me guess, the screw threading stripped ?

Concert Saxophone Accompaniments you got it...right before a performance, too. Come on BG! Come on Vandoren! Why do I always keep coming back they abuse me like this?

@@seanhurlburtmusic3061 I went through 3 BG metals in college, screw breaking, whatever. Then, I went to the Winslow, because it was basically indestructible. Many of us at NU had them, as I'm sure you remember. But they were a major pain to adjust the reed on it....ah, memories :-)

@@ConcertSaxophoneAccompaniments I had the same love hate relationship with my winslow. What was your rubber configuration? I think I settled on a square...can't remember if I used 4 rubbers or 6 haha

I'm having a lot of success with Selmer's one-screw inverted ligature on my D'Addario D155. WWBW just lists it as "Selmer Paris Saxophone Ligature." It just seems to work...one screw, fits the contour of the spine really well, and hits the price point for a lot of players on a budget. I also really like the Vandoren M/O on Vandoren mouthpieces. Weiner erroneously had the pink gold plating the same price as the normal lacquer version for a while, so I snatched one up for alto. I use an Ishimori on my S90 bari.

Nice, Selmer is definitely a budget-lig I overlooked. I like the M/O, too, but like the optimum, mine broke on me. Never heard of Weiner...checking them out now. Also, ISHIMORI. If it was in the realm of possibility, I would have Ishimori everything: lig, reeds, mouthpiece, saxophone...beautiful products.

Sean Hurlburt Music Sorry, I meant I found the the pink gold Vandoren M/O ligature on Weiner at the same price as the normal lacquer.

BG ligature rubber sound. Better for classic music.

Would you recommend this ligature also now or is the a better one youve tested after this is this price category?

    • @seanhurlburtmusic3061
      @seanhurlburtmusic3061  3 роки тому

Honestly, I would go with something metal, or even a simpler leather design. I'm in the "ligatures don't matter that much" camp as it is, so maybe take my opinion with a grain of salt.

oh, man. I don't think of myself as a fast tonguer, but I'll take the compliment. Just work your sixteenth notes with a metronome everyday. Micah, do you think a video on the topic would be helpful?

nothing change, all of these tools are made to milk saxophone enthusiasts; i bought one too, and nothing change apart from the aesthetical/practical (1 screw) aspects... U like them? buy them; are these things a true game changer? Nope. I reccomend to invest more time reserching about mouthpieces and reeds, there is the true difference.
