hope some of the fairbrass bashers watch this and it might help change their negative unsubstantiated opinion of the man who’s done alot for carp angling and has the same passion and energy for the sport as the rest of us

Although I am little older than yourself Dan, your childhood fishing apprenticeship are a carbon copy of mine and probably many others. From cubing luncheon meat, the tackle, cycling to the lake with box and rods strapped on, to your early carp fishing experiences. Bought back so many fond memories. Nothing but admiration for the way Danny has built a successful business from humble beginnings. Just don’t understand the haters for someone who has done so much for carp fishing. Great podcast 👍

Brilliant, sounds like Danny has had a bit of a rough time of late. Not sure how it will go down with some of the younger lads but I could listen to that for hours. So many parralels with the younger fishing days too.

It was like listening to my younger days of fishing! Cycling miles to get to the lake, getting bollockings off my old man for getting home late at night! I wish I’d kept at it, just getting back into it now 🎣

listening to this brought back so many memories for me, I was a junior member of moor hall and bellhurs angling club in S Octendon in the early 70s as my uncle was the chairman. My Gran lived in colliers road romford and I did my early carp fishing in hainault park lake; I used to fish with 4 rods 2 sealy carpasters and 2 11 foot homemade rods both with mitchell 300s and 6lb platiil strong line. I used to freeline boiled egg size baits of a bread core surrounded with sausage meat/curry/flour/breadcrumbs on size 2 barbed hooks. I had 2 heron bite indicators and 2 'homemade indicators made using post office relays in perspex cases wired to a box with 4 buzzers. Indicators were washing up bottle tops on n
knitting needles. Used to catch virtually nothing but loved it. I had a 40 year break from fishing and came back to it 6 years ago. Its so easy now! I still use one of the 1.75lb TC fibrerglass rods for surface fishing. Happy days tight lines all

A big thank you to both Simon and Toby (the chuckle brothers ;-) for producing such brilliant podcasts. I could not listen for 3 hours (whilst walking) if these two guys weren't at the helm. It takes great skill to actually LISTEN, especially nowadays when so many people are judgmental and opinionated. In allowing space to breathe, the audience is left captivated, and are unknowingly drawn deeper into the anglers' life story. You then look at your watch and 3 hours have passed = Wow, who needs mindfulness.
Danny - I can't pick a favourite podcast, but I must say this one has really struck a chord. It wasn't hearing about your fishing or commercial successes, but more how your life story resonated with me. There were so many elements I could relate to that had me in stitches one minute and welling up the next, even your food mixer story. I can still hear my Mum in the 80's screaming the house down when she found out I had been using her expensive magimix food processor to grind down trout pellets, and in doing so I inadvertently snapped the blade ;-).
You also unknowingly helped me and my Dad share some quality time together on the bank. Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 05 and then two lots of skin cancer, long story short we successfully got him through and out the other side. During this time Dad was watching SKY as part of his recuperation, when out of the blue he suddenly said he would like to go fishing again. This was a love we hadn't shared together for 30 years. I asked why, and he mentioned a fishing programme he'd been watching, and kept saying "it's the bloke with the glasses" you know, to which I had no clue. However, the flame was lit, we purchased some gear and off we went for the next 12 years until his sad passing 4 years ago. If you're wondering what got him in the end, it wasn't the big C but bloody pneumonia. He did reach 86 and was happy till the very end, so always try and keep positive and be kind to yourself.
Since then I haven't been fishing for fear it would be too upsetting, but after hearing this podcast the flame has once again been lit. It's time to get my tackle down from the loft and start looking forward to the summer, when once again I will be in pursuit of that allusive 30 both me and my old man tried so hard to catch. So thanks once again, that's two matches I owe you ;-).

i enjoyed this podcast more than i ever imagined . I started carp fishing when flavours were made by geoff kemps and i could relate to so many of DFs stories . I also fished Mercers park( BIS water british industrial sands ) because i lived at my sisters in Coulsdon Surrey and you had to live within a certain radius to join the club . That was when i was around 20 yrs old, around 1983 , im now 57 yrs old . I fished Old Buryhill nr Dorking and remember Graham Roles comenting on my set up with my black and white painted mothers knitting needles with plastic rings as my indicators . Thanks guys my memories are racing now lol . Happy New Year .

We've got alot to thank Mr Fairbrass for especially in the future with all what he's done to keep the carp fishing going for my generations! I don't get what people's problems are with the Man!? Great podcast thanks so much!

Lovely stuff guys! Brought back a lot of memories of my own beginnings in carp fishing. Being of a similar age and starting carp fishing in the mid 80s in NW Kent (Horton Kirby, Sutton-at-Hone), when carp anglers where in the minority, can identify with saving every penny from Saturday jobs, Christmas and birthdays to buy the gear. All i could afford were second hand northwestern glass 11' 2.25 TC rods - weighed a ton and blanks were massive! Mitchell 300s, Delkim Optonics conversions. Used to take all my gear on the bus from S. London. First 20lber in 1987 when i was 17 (Viaduct lake, Horton Kirby), when 20s were big fish and 30s were massive and like hens' teeth!

Just a note on Tiger nuts, They are loaded with vitamins and nuturents but the fat is hard to digest ( We cant do it) It also gives a feeling of being full, so fish eat less but feel just a full. A great food in moderation and alot of anglers dont do moderation.

I know he gets a lot of stick 🦯 but my big introduction to carp fishing coincided with Korda bursting 💥 onto the scene. So all the early free dvds tips, tackle & tactics were fing awesome. And their kit is second to none. Yes a bit more expensive but I’ve never had any issues with it. The wide gapes & kaptor wide gapes were a game changer. From one Dan to another, top man! 👍👍👍
