🚨I don’t not sew on commission🚨 - Навчання та стиль
I wanted to tell you that your videos are what finally motivated me to conquer my sewing machine and start using it instead of torturing myself with hand sewing. I can do larger projects from scratch instead of just modifying bought garments. Your calm demeanor and very logical notes definitelly made the machine less scary
Omg I’m so so glad I could be helpful💕❤️ if you have the time to hand sew I know you will do fantastic on machine!
about a year ago I stumbled upon Serena's videos and she is what motivated me to finally follow through with the promises I made to myself to work on garment sewing, Ive been a quilter for 15 years and having solid sewing skills really did help alot, I bet you know more than you think you do!
Wow this took me back to sewing with my grandmother when I was young. It’s really a shame that sewing, cooking, and typing aren’t still offered at most high schools.
In my experience, learning these life skills early allows young adults to face the world with greater courage.
I actually have some belt buckles I purchased at a xhurch estate sale with you in mind when I got them. Believe they are from 1950-60's, 3 total, yellow, green, anyway they are packed from a move. I have been following you for a long time from a sewing group we both were a part of. Was thrilled when you created your own content, as I knew others would adore you too. Bama girl here. And have quite a few pair of gloves from same place, same time. These estates, I believe, are from Northern states, as the gloves were almost elbow length, kid leather in excellant condition. Always have loved shirt waist dresses even as a teenager. They flatter a multitude of figures. Peace, love and light to you!❤❤❤
I think covering the buckle makes the dress look very put together and unique.
Absolutely beautiful 😍 you look adorable in the dress 😘 I still remember my red shirtwaist dress from 1966 ❤️ I loved wearing that dress when I had a "waist" 😂
Shirtwaist dresses were awesome, especially when I had a waist!
When I was in 9th grade, we had to make a dress and model it at the Mothers Tea in the Spring. I still remember that dress and that I didn’t have to alter the pattern at all. Haha . Ah, the good old days. ....Even tho I don’t make clothes these days, I love watching these videos! They’re such fun and it’s a treat to watch the amazing talent that Sewrena has. She’s such a lovely young woman!
Thank you so much 💕🥰 so happy to have you
Oh that is SUPER cute!!! And yeah I would cover the buckle.
Thank you 🥰 I probably will. I finished the dress at 2am 😂 so I didn’t trust myself to do it then.
Your 1960's shirt dress reminded me of Donna Reed's plaid dresses she beautifully showcased during her show (1958 -1965). This time span was our golden age and your beautiful shirt dress captured this perfectly!! This was a popular style that many beautiful women/moms embraced in the early 1960s. So far, its one of my all time favorite dresses and is extremely flattering on you!! Its a flawless look that you pulled off so effortlessly, especially combined with your fabulous 60s hair!. You look so pretty, that it touched my heart!
I wish I had paid attention when I was young to learn how to sew. Sitting down at a sewing machine to make the dress you just made, it would be the same as giving me tools to build an airplane. You do beautiful work.
Thank you so much! I look at the patterns like a puzzle, and most things go together in similar ways.
I absolutely love this dress!!! I love EVERYTHING you make but this one just really caught me. You are fabulous and blessings to you and your family! Thank you for all the work you do! 🥰
Aww thanks so much💕❤️ I love a shirtwaist
In 1960 I made this dress in a Singer sewing class. I was 10 years old and had no clue as to what I was doing. The instructor did it all for me! You are fantastic and I really enjoy your sewing skills. BTW we did cover the belt buckle. My dress was turquoise and black rickrack .
Love your hilarious story about the same direction cuffs! I thought I was the only one who did that! I find it even funnier that you didn’t notice until after “Baby Brain” had faded a bit! 😂
Hahaha you are not the only one. Idk how i managed to wear it so many times and not notice
@@SewRena You had more important things to be paying attention to.
You do a wonderful job! I get so inspired that I want to start sewing dresses for myself. I wore this dress style for years but I’m 73 now and I’ve been ill for a long time and it has Shapeshifted my body. So now I need empire style dresses because I have nine fractures and developed osteoporosis, and two more fractured on 2 of the already. So I need empire. 😭 till I can get the pattern and find the energy to sew (so much pain) I’m in pajamas, high waisted pants and LL Bean shirts…just an old grandmother here. 😊
So fabulous! Another beautiful make!
Thank you 💕💕
I noticed your sewing machine it is a plain Jane no bells or whistles 😊My mom had one exactly like this she bought from a door-to-door sales man. It wasn’t named Kenmore but I can’t forget that design. I made homemade Barbie clothes 😂
Those linked buttons were such a find! I like patterned fabric like this because it can hide little “oops” situations that solid colored fabric does not! As a mom of two young kids, I’m pretty sure that you know what I mean! 😉
Yes!!! Busy fabric makes life so much easier
This style of dress really suits you! But then, everything you make suits you. You know your body; you know silhouettes, and you know your colors. I adore the french cuffs, and yes, absolutely, cover the buckle. But the orange belt is perfect, so I don't think you need a wider belt.
Absolutely gorgeous Sewena!!!! STUNNING!!
Im still learning, but ive taken to using a cotton like tracing interfacing material to copy the size of the pattern i want! Its either that or steal all my sisters patterns 😂!
Thank you 💕
Love it! Yes, cover the buckle.
Shirtwaist dress turned out so amazing! Showing how you eased in the sleeves was super helpful! The attached buttons was so cool to see perfect added touch ✨✨
A shirt I inherited had cuff link like buttons. You could reverse them so you had different buttons showing. Love the dress! Definitely something I’d wear often. I tend to wear a lot of dresses and skirts.
Thanks for sharing! I think I’ll make
Mine like that when I make some link buttons.
Perfect pattern for your cute figure, very flattering, nice work and excellent tutorial.
Everything you create is beyond gorgeous! Love your content💙🩵🩶🩷❤️❤️
I missed that live u are just an amazing person. Your like a teen Sweetheart lol so cute. With amazing roots. Hugs to grandma we ned a picture of her i dont think i sen. Have a blessed week
It's very pretty. While it would look good with the buckle covered in matching fabric, it equally looks good without - so I'd suggest leaving this one as it is for now and, if you find a wider buckle for a wider belt, then cover that to match instead.
Thanks that’s a good idea!
Adorable dress! I do remember my sisters’ dresses having covered buckles in the 60s.
Stunning and beautifully made. What a wonderful shirt dress! 😍
Shirtwaist dresses are so classic, even present day you see women here in Japan wearing this style, and truly the silhouette looks good on everyone. I love the linked button detail. I would leave the belt uncovered. Looks great for fall!
Thanks so much I genuinely believe a shirt waist looks lovely on everyone and it’s so simple 💕
Glad the wearable mockup turned out well
Thanks for sharing, beautiful dress 😊 10:21
Thank you so much 💕❤️
I really love this dress. Depending on the fabric and accessories, it can be super dressy or a house dress. Very versatile. Thanks.
So cute! My mom always covered her belt buckles. She bought metal buckles designed to be covered with the belting in a kit. I think Prym offered them.
I love how you covered your buckle. And your videos are so soothimg to watch...i have a cup of tea and sit down to enjoy them.
Interesting that that pattern instructed sleeves to on last ...i've made quite a few dresses, for both children and women, and any time a dress comes with a separate skirt, the instructions have always been to attach the sleeves to the bodice before attaching the skirt, and I've assumed its because its much easier to negotiate the fabric and the machine that way.
That is a lovely dress, and i am now inspired to start sewing for myself again....
Love the style and fabric. I think the belt would look good with a covered buckle ❤
another WOW DRESS, RENA makes it look so easy, great talent.
Thank you 💕❤️
Looks so pretty!! 🤩🫶 also looks amazing on you ❤
Thank you very much
@@SewRena you’re welcome ☺️
That dress is absolutely darling!
Thank you 💕💕
Just watched your video. Dress is adorable. The pleates seem like a lot of work n talent. But its perfection Always when u create it.
It's absolutely beautiful! 😍 Lovely style, delightful fabric. If it were me, I'd cover the belt buckle (not that I have the skill to do it! 😂). Thanks for sharing 🙏
I have a bunch of 'connected buttons' from a destash, I guess that's how to use them in future projects
I am with you! Sleeves are the most susceptible to mistakes so I like to have them cut and sewn before constructing the rest of the garmenr
Hahaha that’s not a bad idea at all.
Love the French cuffs!!!!!
You’ve mentioned ‘PATREON’ in several videos but I don’t know what that is. I love your videos. The style speaks to me since I grew up in the 50s and 60s.

Thanks so much it’s just an optional subscription service. For $4 a month I have extra content on there, and whenever possible I do early uploads, share direct links to my supplies/materials. Sneak peeks of upcoming projects. It’s just another way to help support the channel.
That's a great dress!
I thought i was seeing double! I own this pattern! I found it at an antique store for like $5, but i havent sewn it at all because i was quite overweight, but ive dropped 30 lbs and need another 20 to hit my goal weight of 130. I might still be too big for the largest pattern size (i dont even know if its been cut into or missing anything) so i also want to get my hands on pattern grading tools first before i give it a try. I definitely want some shirtwaist dresses in my wardobe because theyre so easy to wear. Getting glammed up to go get groceries is exhausting!
That dress is beautiful! You're so talented I luv vintage
fabulous dress
Very helpful thank you!!
I've never heard of the steam tape before.
Can't wait to check out more of your videos! ❤
Your work is so nice!
And, the environments and outfits you create are wonderful 🌻🦋💖👑
Thank you very much! It’s autumn, and I still can’t resist the floral print.
@@SewRena I wholeheartedly support you sewing whatever gives you the "most" {insert desired feeling/goal/other}. 🌻🌼🦋🧡
Woah, I've never seen linked buttons before. Neato
The first time I saw them was in a jar full of random vintage buttons.
This came together really nice. I like your choice of color in the belt and broach(?), makes the fit pop!
Yes! I always wear a spiderweb brooch before Halloween.
@@SewRena beautiful choice!
I just love this dress!
Thank you 💕. I need more in flannel I feel like I would be able to get away with wearing it without a coat for most of the winter.
Beautiful! And the print is lovely. I attempted this kind of dress last year, by Frankenstein-ing together a shirt pattern and a skirt pattern. Came out ok, but I definitely see the benefit in going with a proper pattern. So well made!
Having a pattern just saves time troubleshooting and I love skipping to the sewing💕 thank you
Lovely dress
I think that's very pretty
Just find your channel! I love it 🥰
Oh I just love this dress! I’m a little nervous to try a shirt dress but I bought a pattern so soon I’ll attempt it. I love the look and you look amazing in yours!
Looking gorgeous as always!
Thank you ❤️❤️
❤ if you cover the Buckle that would look nice. I like the pop of color in the belt
That came out lovely!
Thank you 💕
It is a beautiful dress! ❤😊
Thank you 💕❤️
I think a matching belt is needed here. The current one shown breaks the flow with too much contrast. Beautiful dress!
Super cute! 💕 I have a tank style dress I’m working on that is very similar.
This is so cute! I love the pattern of the fabric so much.
Thank you so much 💕💕
oh man it turned out so cute... maybe I do have to grade mine. I had no idea what the linked buttons were for; I think I even have some in my stash.
Thanks so much! They are so cute. I actually designed my Gertie SewRena collection to have French cuffs on one of the views. You can get really cute novelty shank buttons and make your own linked buttons like little charms. On the demo I used thimble buttons
Very nice!
Beautiful ❤️
Very nice.
Your 2 hour q&a was darling. I love watching all of your videos! and WHERE did you get your aspic pattern weights??
Thanks so much I made them
Beaut project!
Not sure about the centre front large button, though.
It sort of looks out of place.
🦘
Thanks
I remember my mother wearing dresses like these when i was a little girl❤. My grandma and mother had the sewing gene, I didnt get it. I wished I'd paid more attention when they were sewing. Is there a crinolin under this dress?
Gorgeous ---❤❤❤❤❤❤💃💃💃💃💃💃🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷
Thank you 💕
Very pretty! Just my style
You did a lovely job on this dress. I love this style of dress. Where would you find the pattern?
Google the pattern number to see if any copies are for sale right now
Liked, shared and commented!
Thank you so so much I really appreciate it 💕💕
@@SewRena You do fantastic work. I always share (and tag!) on tumblr as well as my family Discord. We have a craft table room.
💜💜💜💜
So darling 💖 but don't bother covering your buttons because the pattern is too small. You might want different color buttons. 😀😉
Thanks so much I was talking about covering the belt buckle.
