Seryu was insane, period. This is what extremism looks like, and why justice is and should be a balance. I’d argue she is also a victim of the system but who isn’t? It’s just that her choices led to an obsession and her naïveté of only seeing black and white caused her spiraling into twistedness.
Akame was also part of the system for most of her life until she saw the truth. Esdeath literally wants to starts wars for fighting strong opponents and feels all the weak should die. Seryu never got to see the true darkness of the empire, the evil people around her always had their nice faces with her. Like Aria with Tatsumi in the first chapter, she looked sweet, turned out to be a total pyscho bitch that if it wasn't for Night Raid, he probably wold have spent a while with her and her family. Lets not forget that we as the viewers have front seats to the evil characters true nature, some of the characters of the show, like Seryu, don't. Also I think it was said somewhere that Seryu's character was tragic as each loss she has to deal with push her further into her insanity, first her father, then Captain Ogre, then Stylish. It just makes her even more more unhinged and sad. She got fed propagantia all her life and never got to leave that corrupt system, like a lot of people probably, so. Kind of hard to know when everything is done to blind you to it.
And the night raid destroyed the country, and if the author of the manga had not montaged the revolution, this would have led to a civil war and war with other countries, in short, senseless bloodshed, then the revolutionaries would have been treated like real villains, but the mangaka decided to create a stupid delusional fairy tale, not when the revolution didn't lead to anything good.

Don't really know who to support in this anime in general. Both the villains and the justice side had their reasons. It's just they're looking into their own perspective as the perceived "correct."

I notice as seemingly cathartic the death of Seryu at Mine's hands is for viewers, the series both the manga and anime- especially the latter, start to take a significant dip in quality. In the case of the latter, fights and story beats are rushed- leading to a convoluted mess by the end. In the case of the former, it leads to the seeds of what would really define the author going forward- lewdness for the sake of fanservice. In AGK, it was supposed to be a portray of how vile the next enemies truly are, but since they almost all prove inept, it's more gratituous depravity for the sake of it. In the prequel- Zero and the Sequel- two notable villains are defined by their lewdness as their unique trait, which feel out of place for how usually serious both series tend to be, with the lewdness being added to characters for the sake of fanservice. And more a serious note, despite the enemies faced are somewhat tougher, even when the heroes die, it doesn't feel like the stakes are rising since it's following the same beats as the anime ending except extended with grosser visuals as well as Esdeath transforming from a somewhat likable, but still a dangerous villain to take down to a completely raving lunatic who is solely defined by her OP powers with any nuance being stripped from her. And the ending itsef has some very squicky implications on Mine/Tatsumi's relationship and the inconculisive nature of the sequel makes everything seem pointless. Seryu migth've done horrible things, but she was ironically the element that caused AGK to become a more engaging story than its previously depraved sociopath of the week plotline with a crazy, but understandable character raised on the propaganda of the Empire. She was the middle ground between the irreedeemable members and the human members of the Jaegers, being a group that had diversity and someone to follow alongside the Night Raid group. She could've been developed further to allow something unique- maybe finding redemption and realizing the errors of her ways- either dying as atonement in a more realistic light or finding salvation. Instead, she is wasted to be used alongside Suzuka to give the same duo dynamic as the previous two Rakshasa as well as resolve the whole Mine revenge plotline. While it does lead to that revenge been settled, it's more of a setup for a somewhat controversial ship of Mine/Tatsumi and Suzuka either just dying easily as a villain of the week (anime) or being a very clingy cockroach who got off far too easy for all of the sins she committed. It never felt like an organic setup and more like happening because of convenience.
I honestly dont know why everybody hated seryu. She was just doing her job and honest to heck believed to her very fiber of her being she was on the good guys team and she was making the evil people pay and stopping them from hurting others like when her parents got offed by rebels. Not only was she lied to all her life her mentors were corrupt. She was nice and genuine to every single person in the Yeagers and empire. Cut her some slack.
Okay so we're just going to ignore Seryu laughing maniacally and killing innocent people? I'm not saying Esdeath is any better, don't get me wrong, but Seryu does not deserve any slack at all. The only member of the Jeagers that deserves any form of sympathy is Wave. Edit: Bols was alright too

Thanks Doctor Stylish for that. That Maniac Doctor really modify Seiryu's body into a weapon. People usually just mentioned Captain Ogre about Seiryu, but there is 1 other person who really influence Seiryu; That is Dr Stylish. Captain Ogre is like a Teacher for Seiryu, while Dr Stylish is like a Father Figure for her. Seiryu even cried after Dr Stylish death. Imagine you grow up with those 2 crazy people... No wonder Seiryu sense of Justice is really twisted like that.
All this time I thought Tatsumi was the protagonist, but it's actually Akame, it's literally on the title name "Akame Ga Kill." I thought I was gonna love this anime, but at the end I hated it. If only there was a season 2, and show that they are reincarnated or resurrected.
it was very rushed and the pace went all over the place after susano'o death, since at the time the source material itself wasn't finished yet. lookin at it again, they should've waited it to finish than mop it up it like that. the manga got better ending

Just want to Correct 1 thing : Seiryu is not the one who killed Chelsea. That's Kurome. But after Kurome killed Chelsea, Seiryu asked Kurome to give her Chelsea's Corpse, and asked Hecatonheir to eat Chelsea's body, and showed Chelsea's head to the public. So yeah, eventhough the one who killed Chelsea is Kurome, but what Seiryu do is worse.

Who with good intentions wouldn't want that? Now, do I condone what she did as right? No. She became the very thing she wanted to destroy because her twisted mindset was both fed into her and emerged from her. Which is all more tragic. Am I siding with her? Also, no, I'm just acknowledging a fundamental piece of her character that most fans of Akame Ga Kill don't want to.

Glad Mine gets hers in the end but sad that in the end the greatest hero, Esdeath, also falls. *FUN FACT:* Seryu's beliefs are closer to true justice than anyone in Night Raid even by Night Raid's own admission. They are not heroes & are not good by any measure whereas Seryu is at least slightly good & somewhat heroic even if her behavior in combat is super aggressive.

In AGK, it was supposed to be a portray of how vile the next enemies truly are, but since they almost all prove inept, it's more gratituous depravity for the sake of it. In the prequel- Zero and the Sequel- two notable villains are defined by their lewdness as their unique trait, which feel out of place for how usually serious both series tend to be, with the lewdness being added to characters for the sake of fanservice. And more a serious note, despite the enemies faced are somewhat tougher, even when the heroes die, it doesn't feel like the stakes are rising since it's following the same beats as the anime ending except extended with grosser visuals as well as Esdeath transforming from a somewhat likable, but still a dangerous villain to take down to a completely raving lunatic who is solely defined by her OP powers with any nuance being stripped from her. And the ending itsef has some very squicky implications on Mine/Tatsumi's relationship and the inconculisive nature of the sequel makes everything seem pointless.
Seryu migth've done horrible things, but she was ironically the element that caused AGK to become a more engaging story than its previously depraved sociopath of the week plotline with a crazy, but understandable character raised on the propaganda of the Empire. She was the middle ground between the irreedeemable members and the human members of the Jaegers, being a group that had diversity and someone to follow alongside the Night Raid group. She could've been developed further to allow something unique- maybe finding redemption and realizing the errors of her ways- either dying as atonement in a more realistic light or finding salvation.
Instead, she is wasted to be used alongside Suzuka to give the same duo dynamic as the previous two Rakshasa as well as resolve the whole Mine revenge plotline. While it does lead to that revenge been settled, it's more of a setup for a somewhat controversial ship of Mine/Tatsumi and Suzuka either just dying easily as a villain of the week (anime) or being a very clingy cockroach who got off far too easy for all of the sins she committed. It never felt like an organic setup and more like happening because of convenience.
I honestly dont know why everybody hated seryu. She was just doing her job and honest to heck believed to her very fiber of her being she was on the good guys team and she was making the evil people pay and stopping them from hurting others like when her parents got offed by rebels. Not only was she lied to all her life her mentors were corrupt. She was nice and genuine to every single person in the Yeagers and empire. Cut her some slack.
Okay so we're just going to ignore Seryu laughing maniacally and killing innocent people? I'm not saying Esdeath is any better, don't get me wrong, but Seryu does not deserve any slack at all. The only member of the Jeagers that deserves any form of sympathy is Wave.

People usually just mentioned Captain Ogre about Seiryu, but there is 1 other person who really influence Seiryu; That is Dr Stylish. Captain Ogre is like a Teacher for Seiryu, while Dr Stylish is like a Father Figure for her. Seiryu even cried after Dr Stylish death. Imagine you grow up with those 2 crazy people... No wonder Seiryu sense of Justice is really twisted like that.

All this time I thought Tatsumi was the protagonist, but it's actually Akame, it's literally on the title name "Akame Ga Kill." I thought I was gonna love this anime, but at the end I hated it. If only there was a season 2, and show that they are reincarnated or resurrected.
it was very rushed and the pace went all over the place after susano'o death, since at the time the source material itself wasn't finished yet. lookin at it again, they should've waited it to finish than mop it up it like that. the manga got better ending

@@Archedgar well, indeed wildhunt is the worst part, you can ignore their existence and it wouldn't affect the plot by much, they were just there to adds the brutality which is unnecessary, ruining things. But I meant as better here was the story pace and how it concluded, the anime just went too fast.

Just want to Correct 1 thing : Seiryu is not the one who killed Chelsea. That's Kurome. But after Kurome killed Chelsea, Seiryu asked Kurome to give her Chelsea's Corpse, and asked Hecatonheir to eat Chelsea's body, and showed Chelsea's head to the public.
So yeah, eventhough the one who killed Chelsea is Kurome, but what Seiryu do is worse.

Bols regreted, Wave regreted, Ran regreted, even Esdeath knew the Empire was corrupted to the core. But Esdeath's menace is even less scary than Seryu's distorted faith and her pet.
Oh and she is not equal to any other Jeagers at all because unlike them, she DID NOT REGRET what she had done.

By the time the series begins, she's already all the way down at the bottom of the rabbit hole of hatred, which is what makes her that much more tragic of a character. In the end, yes, she did have good intentions. It was just buried six feet under her hatred and brainwashing. She wanted to protect people and bring justice to those who hurt others. Who with good intentions wouldn't want that?
Now, do I condone what she did as right? No. She became the very thing she wanted to destroy because her twisted mindset was both fed into her and emerged from her. Which is all more tragic. Am I siding with her? Also, no, I'm just acknowledging a fundamental piece of her character that most fans of Akame Ga Kill don't want to.

*FUN FACT:* Seryu's beliefs are closer to true justice than anyone in Night Raid even by Night Raid's own admission. They are not heroes & are not good by any measure whereas Seryu is at least slightly good & somewhat heroic even if her behavior in combat is super aggressive.
