Hey Lana! It's really good to have a quick look at popular scams in places and then you are prepared a little. When we were in Turkey we only had time in Istanbul and it felt like a big city in many ways in terms of how people deal with foreigners. But my dad went somewhere else and he also talked a lot about how kind and lovely local people are and up for a chat and a cup of tea together etc. So lovely to hear. Meeting wonderful people always makes a place more special! :)
Hey! Yes for sure. It’s definitely always good to do some research before going anywhere. Istanbul felt so big, it was like there were so many tiny towns inside one big city. Very diverse! Oh nice! Where did your dad visit in Turkey? We’ve noticed a much more relaxed vibe where we are now compared to Istanbul, although people in Istanbul were nice too. Hope you guys are doing well 😊.

I have been travelling to Turkey for over 30 years . I have been to remote regions of the country, tourist areas too. I have never had any problem finding people who speak English to a very high standard . They are highly educated people and are among the kindest and helpful people I have met . Another tip , learn some basic Turkish phrases , I have made so many Turks laugh , when I massacre their language .... I’m thinking of doing some standup comedy . When you decide what you are about order in a restaurant , make sure they see you Writing your order and the price of each dish on a wee notepad. If they ask you why you’re doing it , tell them you write for a travel magazine. I’ve had so many free coffees , teas even beers from blagging the truth. I can’t wait to get back there late this year. Chill and enjoy the rest of your travels .
Very true! Learning a bit of the local language always goes a far way. Great tip on the menu prices. We usually just take a photo of the menu, but I like your idea better 😂🙌🏼. Thanks for the very informative comment! I hope you have a great time on your next trip to Turkey 🇹🇷
Kia Ora, thanks for this great video and good to know you are a Kiwi. We live in Queenstown and were going to visit Turkey this year but Covid stopped us unfortunately. Hope to go soon.
Hello Lana! Talking to Peter and Yen, they told us you were here in Istanbul as well. Great to know another youtuber is here like we are! Nice to visually meet you!
There's an order from the government not to sell masks, just to give them for free to everyone who asks. Where are you guys? We are in Kadikoy Love how much they care about the animals here 😍😍
Oh yeah we wondered about that, if it was free for us too? Good to know. Oh we loved Kadikoy, we were saying that if we stayed in Istanbul we would stay there because it was nice and quiet compared to the European side.
We love the pets too! It’s something we missed so much while travelling, glad we get to see pets all the time here 🙌🏼. Oh cool! Well if you come to Bodrum it would be nice to meet up in person 😊.

We are visiting late February for two weeks. I am from Sydney and wish to find out right place when we decide to relocate. Could you please tell me which cities should we travel to find out the acceptable place to live. I trust Antalya would be our first stop.
Thank you! Yes, there’s heaps of videos about scams on UA-cam. And they usually do the scams in the touristy parts of town, so it’s not like that everywhere.
Hey Lana, it's a nise video with good information. My experience was very bad I had visited last month stayed for 10 days, it's difficult if you don't know their language. Once you are recognized as a tourist you are ripped off every where you are charged double or even triple. I wish I had seen your video before I left my country.
Hello! Thanks for watching! I’m sorry to hear about your experience in Turkey 🇹🇷. It can be hard as a tourist sometimes if you don’t have all the information. I highly recommend going to less touristy areas I aways have better experiences in local neighbourhoods it feels more authentic and you don’t get ripped off there. I know the feeling of being ripped off it can leave a sour taste in your mouth of a place, but I hope you will get to experience Turkey again another time. I have some videos coming soon of some less touristy neighbourhoods to visit in Istanbul so if you do plan to come back anytime you could add them to your list ☺️
I read a lot of travel blogs and they say that the man harass women and touch them in appropriately or try to get into the hotel room at night is this true because I would like to go visit but I am kind of nervous
Couple guys tried to do the shoeshine scam to me and my son in Istanbul, fortunately I realized what they were trying to do to us and acted really quick, retrieved the money they took from my son and walked quickly far from them. It happened in my last day in Istanbul, even though I got shocked by this experience, my vacation in Turkey was one I will always remember, one regret: not knowing the language.
@@marisabelv4879 They don’t have bad intentions actually. They want 5$ max for their service but scam is scam. I am not defending them. Hope you had a great experience
Girl lie correct, I’m from Ankara Turkey but I live in Australia, but I know for a fact that people do smoke a lot there, and Istanbul is really crowded, so that’s why I would stay in Ankara rather than living in Istanbul
Lana Tiare well first off, thanks for the doing well wish I’m doing fine here, but in Ankara there is so many things to do, like going to theme parks, eating at buffet, going on picnics, and the best thing is eating so much kebabs😂😂 so I hope when you do visit Ankara you have a wonderful time there😁❤️
btshiteu Oh wow Ankara sounds like a awesome place. I love eating the kebabs here in Turkey 🇹🇷😋. And theme parks and buffet sounds good also! Thanks for all the recommendations 😊🙏. Have a great weekend!
I would like to add to this that as a single woman I do not recommend Istanbul alone (particularly Sultanahmet area - locked in a restaurant, groped in a taxi and also groped in sunglasses store just a small sample of delights). You get harassed, stalked and groped constantly, it is really not nice to be dealing with that every day at all. I was recommended to cover my hair and wear fake wedding ring, which is probably really good advice but shouldn't have to be like that. I spent a whole month in Istanbul. Perhaps it is a better experience on the Eastern side, I do not know I was just so done with the place I wanted completely away. I am now in Alanya, in the south of Turkey, and the experience is so much better. The people are much more chilled and I have been given no problems here. I love it so much I would like to stay a lot longer.
So sorry to hear your experience was like this in Istanbul. I am happy to hear that you are in a place where you feel more comfortable now. Travelling as females we definitely have to be more in guard. Please take care! And thank you for sharing your story here ❤️
It's all those south asian illegal immigrants & sometimes syrian refugees (& kurds who moved to Istanbul from the south) that do that kind of thing. It really annoys me that they do such things to not only local women but also our guests. can't wait till Erdogan sends them back, at least the men (the females are good & they never cause problems)
I think giving the prices as USD wont help for those who wants to move to Turkey and earn Turkish Liras. (which i dont think there is anyone lol) Thanks for your beautiful video
I'm moving to Turkey as well but only because I earn my income in Australian dollars. Otherwise I don't think I would move to Turkey despite being born there
I wanted to come to live in Turkey but could not because of the smoking. I have asthma and smelling it can put me in hospital. Even Europe I can’t visit for same reason. I can only be in country like USA because of smoking So sad I wanted to be in Turkey
yes, and if you are entering the country with a personal computer/phone you can be charged a large fee for bringing it into the country. but like most laws in turkey this is a rule on paper but is generally not enforced. however there is also a large free (which is always being increased) to "register" a foreign phone for use with turkish providers, so it's cheaper to buy a phone when you get there.
that large fee is only for phones, that are bought outside of turkey and if you want to use local sim card from turkey (not roaming). btw the phone will still work around 2-3 months after the entry, after that time, this fee should be paid for further use.
Wow surprising it's so cheap for smokes!! Do they also put all the ugly as pictures on the packaging like they do in NZ? 😅 I'm gonna guess not lol. We don't smoke or drink btw. That's interesting the scams! I remember you mentioned the shoe scam in a previous video lol 😂 That's sooo nice the guy gave you face masks for free! ❤️ The fruit and veges do look amazing! The cats and pup are so cute! They do look really well looked after. Food looks amazing, am sure we'd love it too 🤤 Lol yoghurt addiction 😂 I was like that in China of all places lol.. their yoghurt drinks were real yum I'd have one almost daily! Other dairy not that nice though lol. Thanks for this pros and cons list, it was nice to hear your perspective as a seasoned traveler 🙂
Yes it’s very cheap, and yeah they do put the pictures on it from what I’ve seen. Yes! They’re so kind 😆. They really take care of each other and will even go to lengths to drop off essential items to the elderly, etc. It’s so heartwarming ☺️. Oh nice! We love the yoghurt here because it’s not sweetened 😋. Would love to try the Chinese one now 😅. Thanks for watching ☺️.
@@LanaTiare the Chinese yogurt drinks were sweet and creamy though so you might not like it and could be why I did hahah 😆 I'm sure it's very different to the Turkish ones! That's awesome the care they show there 💕 glad you're both doing well!
Peter and Yen Sorry I only just saw this now. Not sure why. Sounds sweet haha I’d still be willing to give it a try. The yoghurt ones here in Turkey can be sour. Thanks! Glad you guys are too!
Hello Tarim, we haven’t had much of a chance to explore many cities in Turkey. So it depends what you like, there are many nice beach cities or you can live in a big city like Istanbul or Ankara.

Could you please tell me which cities should we travel to find out the acceptable place to live.
I trust Antalya would be our first stop.
Nice and informative video. I am coming in November .
Hope you enjoy your time there 😊

Informative
Thank you 🙏
Very informative. Turkey has been on my list for a while so it's good to know about the scams and things to look out for xx
Thank you! Yes, there’s heaps of videos about scams on UA-cam. And they usually do the scams in the touristy parts of town, so it’s not like that everywhere.
@@LanaTiare - correct, definitely not like that everywhere.
i would literally die for turkey even though I am American
Awesome to hear that you love Turkey too! 😊🥰
@@LanaTiare Thanks Lana, so nise of you to reply back. Will keep an eye on your videos. Do watch my channel as well.

My wife and I are travelling to Turkey soon. Which 3 of these 4 cities (Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye and Izmir) are the nicest to live?
Please visit Bombay u will know what crowd means
Why all youtubers who make Turkey videos use this stupid intro music that has nothing to do with Turkey..
To us alcohol is cheap compared to the NYC or the US in general, but not compare to where I (Maria) am from, Spain
Yes true! It’s reasonable for sure compared to the USA! But not other European countries.
I read a lot of travel blogs and they say that the man harass women and touch them in appropriately or try to get into the hotel room at night is this true because I would like to go visit but I am kind of nervous
How safe is Turkey??
Just came across you whilst looking into Turkey. Good video. New subscriber here 😊
Hello!!! Nice to meet you! ☺️☺️

Yay! Thank you for watching 🇹🇷❤️
Where would you recommend a person stay in Bodrum?
If you report those scams they'll be shut down immediately
Couple guys tried to do the shoeshine scam to me and my son in Istanbul, fortunately I realized what they were trying to do to us and acted really quick, retrieved the money they took from my son and walked quickly far from them. It happened in my last day in Istanbul, even though I got shocked by this experience, my vacation in Turkey was one I will always remember, one regret: not knowing the language.
@@marisabelv4879 They don’t have bad intentions actually. They want 5$ max for their service but scam is scam. I am not defending them. Hope you had a great experience
are you guys still in Instabul ? sounds like a good place to be under lockdown
Yes it seems like it, but we spent our lockdown in Muğla 😊
@@LanaTiare how's the Wifi there? planning on coming out to Turkey as they ease travel restrictions
Remote365 Wifi here is okay. We did have some outages occasionally. Just make sure to buy a SIM card with data as back up 😊

So, I'm a student from Bangladesh and want to settle in Turkey, what's down for me?
Oh cool! You will have an awesome time there! Lots of culture, tasty food and friendly people 😊
Lana those scammers are ruthless and get us too. I am from Ankara and they did it twice to me when I visited Istanbul....
Yes definitely something to watch out for in Turkey. We’re very grateful we didn’t experience anything too bad but we have seen and heard about it.
Girl lie correct, I’m from Ankara Turkey but I live in Australia, but I know for a fact that people do smoke a lot there, and Istanbul is really crowded, so that’s why I would stay in Ankara rather than living in Istanbul
We are yet to visit Ankara. What are your favourite things to do in Ankara? Hope you’re doing well in Australia 😊.
Lana Tiare your welcome have a great weekend to!😁
btshiteu Thank you ☺️🙏
Could you tell us about accommodation costs etc..?? Been thinking of moving to turkey for a bit.
Very different from place to place. You really gotta narrow it down lol.
Turkey is the best n cheap place to visit n live but be careful from the scammer, especially near Taksim
Yes Turkey is a great place to live! 😊🇹🇷 Thanks for your comments!
I think giving the prices as USD wont help for those who wants to move to Turkey and earn Turkish Liras. (which i dont think there is anyone lol) Thanks for your beautiful video
I'm moving to Turkey as well but only because I earn my income in Australian dollars. Otherwise I don't think I would move to Turkey despite being born there
Good morning Lana ...
HI BÜYÜK İYİDİR
I paid £33 for a small meal, but I don't know if I got over charged. Yep ppl couldn't really speak English
I wanted to come to live in Turkey but could not because of the smoking. I have asthma and smelling it can put me in hospital. Even Europe I can’t visit for same reason. I can only be in country like USA because of smoking
So sad
I wanted to be in Turkey
Yes, a lot of people smoke in Europe I was quite surprised. I hope you still get a chance to go to Turkey someday
Dont come
i am shocked that u liked kokorec, i took 1 bite of that sandwitch and i gagged, almost vomited , other wise everything else was fantastic.
I LOVE ❤ T.U.R.K.E.Y. 🛡 🤟
Turkey 🇹🇷🇹🇷🙌🏼🙌🏼😍😍
Please list the food names as your accent is challenging to catch. Thanks for info
Hi,

Aha ok sweet like Bosfowrow in Limonada and such Lana Taire lovely girl that can travel whatever she love to travel and so on and again ..... Techno .
iPhones are very expensive in turkey
I think American products are banned in Turkey
yes, and if you are entering the country with a personal computer/phone you can be charged a large fee for bringing it into the country. but like most laws in turkey this is a rule on paper but is generally not enforced. however there is also a large free (which is always being increased) to "register" a foreign phone for use with turkish providers, so it's cheaper to buy a phone when you get there.
that large fee is only for phones, that are bought outside of turkey and if you want to use local sim card from turkey (not roaming). btw the phone will still work around 2-3 months after the entry, after that time, this fee should be paid for further use.
Wow surprising it's so cheap for smokes!! Do they also put all the ugly as pictures on the packaging like they do in NZ? 😅 I'm gonna guess not lol. We don't smoke or drink btw. That's interesting the scams! I remember you mentioned the shoe scam in a previous video lol 😂
That's sooo nice the guy gave you face masks for free!
Nice
Are there many people to speak english in Turkey?
Shoe shine case is not a scam. It is a fool permitting a service from a stranger occur before establishing price unequivocally.
Lana which place is perfect in Turky for a retirement home
Hello Tarim, we haven’t had much of a chance to explore many cities in Turkey. So it depends what you like, there are many nice beach cities or you can live in a big city like Istanbul or Ankara.
Hi Tariq, any west coast seaside city is good for retirement I guess. People are more or less able to speak English there, comparing to the east.
Anywhere along the coast between Izmir and Alanya.
Is it safe? Can you walk around without feeling scare?
I felt safe to walk around. I just make sure I’m aware of my surroundings and choose to walk in places that seem safer. I never walk at night time alone.
In Istanbul there was more people understanding German than English
Oh interesting!
Makes sense since population of Germany is 60 percent Turkish
As a turk my pros and cons
pros: Beatuful to vist.
Cons: Hell to live.
Hehe. Like most places in the world!😅
Hey thanks a stack for this clip dear.
I am intending to settle in Turkey and Istanbul is definitely not an option.
I'd probably look at Alanya, Bodrum, Izmir and those less populated areas.
Thank you, yes those places sound great to settle down.
Thank you for your nice and critical views, I agree with you, Istanbul is a crowded city, keep your purse and wallet well if you go there, otherwise your money will be stolen I will end the comment with a Turkish smile "hgfhgfhghghgfhhfg" TwT I have a bad english, sorry
Hello! Thank you, yes Istanbul can be crowded but it’s always an amazing experience there ☺️ Thank you for your tip, definitely need to be more aware of belongings in crowded places. Hehe yay! A Turkish smile! Thank you for the comment ☺️ Don’t apologise I understand you just fine 😄
