Very true. This is the only ending to hit the right tone of what is happening in the show. Ainz and co. aren't heroes. They are villains, and with them comes the end of days.
It’s a deep and silent night 何も聴こえない 永遠(とわ)に眠れ 嘆き、怒り、渦を巻き 轟いた叫びも 闇に迷い 声も無く 消えていった 騙し合いも 裏切りさえ 無意味だった 何も残さず It’s a deep and silent night 何も聴こえない 全てが眠った そして世界は また繰り返す 無慈悲な幻想(ゆめ)
0:54 All of the guardians really do look like villains, well, I guess that’s because they are. Still, nonetheless it really reminds you about the fact that we’re all cheering for the villains’ side. It’s always so refreshing looking at things from another POV.
Not gonna lie, the first time I watched this ED, I was afraid Enri and Nphirea would die this season. The way they were being focused on, the black threads slowlying reaching towards them... Other then that, I just felt really... taken aback by this ED. Mainly, when the Guardians show up. All these Seasons, despite knowing how bad they were, I still couldn't help but see them all in a loving fashion. They were NPCs, they were characters following their settings and they were abandoned. That must've been horrible for them, so no wonder they clinged to Ainz! In short, I always saw them as puppies. As these little animals, full with their flaws and all, but who I just couldn't help but wish to protect and teach. But then... That picture in the ED... I think it was a great reminder that, no. They may all be charming, they may all be loveable in their own way, we may love them all for all sorts of reasons... But we must never forget... *how **_evil_** they all trully are.* Those glowing eyes... it felt like a hint to what their true nature was like. It was a bit of a shocker. I've grown so used to all of them and came to care for them all so much, that I forgot that, deep down, those characters are supposed to be evil. I was just forgetting to see it from a different perspective. I think through the story made that feeling hit home the hardest with Lupusregina. Somehow, she scares me more then Entoma, Solution or Narberal. Something about her sadism... no, something about the way she acts when she drops her pretenses... It feels unnerving that a creature that wise, smart and cunning could actually be plotting your suffering. And then, to hit the nail in the coffin of this entire ED... After having that intimidating display of the Guardians, we see Ainz *in tears,* tears of *blood,* reaching out and trying to get into *the light.* My God, if ever there was "sending a message through visuals alone", that was it. Ainz' lat bit of humanity desperately trying to cling into the light, crawl out of the darkness... *but it fails.* I guess this is all just testament to how memorable this ED trully is. And how much it left an impression on me. Don't get me wrong, this ED is still beautiful. Hell, maybe the most beautiful out of the three! But it definitelly sets an atmosphere that contradicts the prievious two. The first one mostly showed Albedo's crazy love and, in a way, it was kinda cute. You looked forward to see where the hell that would lead to. The second one had this little melancholic tone to it, but it was still full of energy and made you feel hopeful to see how things would unfold. But the third one feels nihilistic. It's like it's showing a dark, opressive world and then just saying "This is how the world is, deal with it There is no hope. Struggle all you want, it is futile." To quote Linkin Park, "In the end, it doesn't even matter."
There are many details on this ending, everytime I see it, I discover something new. For example, when the Guardians appear, the only one bathed in light is Albedo, besides being the one deepest in the dsrkness. This may signifies that she IS the hope, the happiness and the unconditional love that Momonga is searching for in the new world, but his own sense of shame and guilt makes him unable to realize about that. The thing you look the most, is the one nearest to you. In the end, that Momonga may be his last bit of humanity, but may be too his sense of responsibility for all the lives he had take, that blood may be the countless souls he consumed on his search for love, his search for not feeling lonely. He already has that right nex to him, but his lack of a wider view will only consume everything he already has, and everything else he turns his eyes to.
@@32inquisidor for me he's losing his humanity, the more the show goes on and the more he's becoming the "overlord" that he is supposed too be and i think he don't even realise it that's why he is searching for light but in fact turn into darkness...
Well, the openning shows the events that'll happen on the seasson. The ending, on the other hand, with both its art and lyrics, tells you the story of the entire Overlord series, adding to the mix how the darkness that is Ainz himself consumes everything. Not even the purest characters (Nfirea and Enri) were safe.
The Art have meaning, like how Ainz was wrap around darkness because hes about to unleash something dark and powerful that will consume the light(Kingdom) Then about Enri looking around panicking meaning that the village will be in dire crisis, and they showed two goblins horns meaning the second one is about to release the true power of the goblins horn. Then we see climb and the rest of the crew about to face something and we all know who there gonna face. The art are some what mini spoilers to be exact
Stephanie the ending is more about his feelings and about his guild mates from the past. When he remembers something, it always get suppress. Or the other meaning that he’s slowly loosing his humanity.
+Spexs FT Appreciate you clarifying lol. I’ve just been trying to find time to read the LN with school going on and having to read school books :/ can’t wait tho
Stephanie You’re into a treat. The light novel is more Detail than the anime and even Darker. When you’re done with a volume the author puts side stories, so the readers could have picture on what is gonna happen in the future.
So-bin's art is just fucking iconic, and iconic to Overlord. Such a loose, painterly style that he has adapted to work with anime so flawlessly and emotionally. The techniques and the way he uses light are more akin to the more expressive high art of old.
Deep down all the isekai and dark fantasy elements of this series, this is a story of a man who struggles to keep his humanity even as he's forced to do every horrible atrocity imaginable, but is ultimately hopeless, for that he's trapped with no exit inside a hellhole, completely alone and without the friends he made in life to accompany him. That's why Ainz is shown to cry blood in the last artwork of this ending. Although he's by this point a brutal undead with no constraints left, very small traces of his original human self as Satoru still remain, showing just how lonely this poor man is.
I love how some of the ending sequences implies that Ainz is certainly losing all of his humanity. He is basically the character he is playing as, whatever is left of the dude that was playing a game is long gone.
So-bin is a masterful artist. He also does the illustrations for the novels and you can see how his art progresses with each tome or volume of the series. :D
So-bin art is just unbeatable. I buy all overlord light novel and showcase it on a highlighted shelf in my living room, the cover art is just sooooo amazingly done. I believe overlord has THE best artstyle in light novel ever
That opening art of Ainz with the start of this song gives me chills every time. Perfect ending for the arc where Ainz indisputably sheds the last shred of his humanity.

The art is always amazing from the light novels and its awesome to see that brought to the anime because as the series has progressed and gotten better, so too has the artist.
I like all of the detail put into this ending like how in the start of it ainz seems to be the source of the darkness and everyone looks to be affected by it and a drop of this darkness creates the guardians and at the end ainz tries to grab the humanity he once had but fails. Top 10 endings of all time
The way I look at this ending is that Ainz is slowly falling further into darkness, and in doing so is dragging everyone around him into it with him. The Floor Guardians themselves are all covered in varying shades of darkness, showing just how good or evil they really are depending on how much covers them. It’s actually haunting when you think about it that way.
One interesting thing I noticed about the part with all the floor guardians is that they all face the screen or at least at looking back at it (cocyotus) but Sebas is not, he is looking away, I’m not too sure what it could mean (or if it even means anything) but considering he is the only guardian with compassion for humanity and the only guardian with a positive karma rating it could be perhaps foreshadowing him starting to really think for himself and not just follow ainz, maybe even him turning to the side of humanity, although that’s just a wild theory, it’s still pretty intriguing regardless
Yeah it’s quite sad. Sebas and Cocytus are only two of very few NPCs in Nazarick to have positive Karma ratings. Sebas is actually really high too at 300 making him Good Aligned not just Neutral-Good like Cocytus at 50. Sebas’ thoughts conflict a lot of the time with his undying loyalty when carrying out Ainz’s less than moral orders. I don’t think he will betray Ainz but I do think he will try a lot to weave his way around Ainz’s orders enough to save as many innocents as possible. That is what his creator Lord Touch Me created him to be like, save the innocents which conflicted with much of Ainz Oal Gown’s members role-play as the villains. Also that shot in the ending of Sebas and Cocytus looking away( in my opinion which was influenced by someone else who posted a really popular comment interpreting the ending) symbolizes their actions of willfully turning their backs and playing ignorant to the Evil Actions of Ainz(who is influenced by Demiurge who is shown in the ED to be more sinister than all the other guardians cause of his EXTREME evil nature at -500 karma score, also known as Extreme Evil).
I view it more as willful ignorance. The dark and black strings in the art represent ainz, his influence and the dark nature of nazarick itself, while the light represents humanity/compassion. Sebas is shown enveloped by the dark like demiurge, but his back is turned to the camera unlike his colleagues, with his face in the light. This shows that while he does have his morals, he's capable of turning a blind eye towards "necessary evil", ie the other gaurdians and ainz himself. Cocytus is shown fully in the light to show how his morals rule him. Honour first, everything else second. Demiurge is shown enshrouded in darkness to represent the pure evil of his blacked heart. There is nothing he won't do. And fluder shown earlier, is also enshrouded, representing how ainz has him enthralled. At least, that's my take.
Caught in an endless void of nothingness filled with despair and longing to break free from the nightmare he has awoken too. With no other way to move forward but to claim his place as a supreme being, he has no other choice but to spread darkness while the light within him slowly dissipates and eats away at his humanity. It’s really powerful how this ending captures Ainz torment. Good job to the artist.
I see this song as about much more than just Overlord. It's about anyone who arrives at a position of power, and then slowly loses their humanity as they do what the position demands.
This whole ending just makes me and my creative mind go wild it’s like the darkness first consumed ains (the darkness being Yggdrasil) and as he goes through the darkness it corrupts normal beings and turns them to its side with the most powerful beings the ones who are the most far gone (the guardians) truly is the peak of Isekai
That end with Lord Ainz reaching out speaks volumes about how he's wanting to go back to the way things were when him and his online friends were in a game living normal lives outside of it, but now he's an all-powerful ruler who can show no mercy to those that would dare defy his ruling and disrespect the treasure him and his comrades worked so hard to obtain in the grey lining of it all he's breaking down mentally and seeking answers to help him understand how did it all come to this.
In the last shot, you can see Ainz crying blood as he raises his hand to show that he's losing his humanity in the nightmare of a world he's trapped in, forced to pretend to be someone he's not when all he wants is to find out how to get out. Truly is heartbreaking...almost just as bad as Aqua's tragic story from Kingdom Hearts...😥
@@Universum1997 He does still miss his gaming friends so Nazarick and everyone in it means a lot to him. I wonder how he would react if it was all taken away from him? My guess is a killing spree of death. Somebody is going to come along and actually give them a threat. I just know it

Very true. This is the only ending to hit the right tone of what is happening in the show. Ainz and co. aren't heroes. They are villains, and with them comes the end of days.
Even after three years this is still fire

I come here every so and then and still one of the best endings ever in an anime. The music with the arts just hits right
OxT are just godlike with this song! The art and music suit so well!!! Overlord just have the best openings and ending you JUST don’t want to skip!!!

*how **_evil_** they all trully are.*
Those glowing eyes... it felt like a hint to what their true nature was like.
After having that intimidating display of the Guardians, we see Ainz *in tears,* tears of *blood,* reaching out and trying to get into *the light.*
My God, if ever there was "sending a message through visuals alone", that was it. Ainz' lat bit of humanity desperately trying to cling into the light, crawl out of the darkness... *but it fails.*
I guess this is all just testament to how memorable this ED trully is.
They are so Many details that i learn in this ED with poeple like you it's so impressive, i don't know how you guys can do that ^^
Ok
This dude wrote an essay
Honestly the ending is better than the opening, who else is with me?
I love the OP, but the ED has so much weight to it... so much emotion/tragedy...
It definitelly stays on your mind more.
Op2 the best and ed 3 the best

Then about Enri looking around panicking meaning that the village will be in dire crisis, and they showed two goblins horns meaning the second one is about to release the true power of the goblins horn.

Favorite part is 0:53 the art is so cool.
I loved the transition from the episodes ending, and it would show the current episodes main focus.
0:54 - 1:11 THAT would be the best wallpaper

All of the overlord songs are sooooo badass it really does feel like they are superior by the way the Art was done
What I like about Overlord endings and openings is how recognizable they are like you know if a song is related to Overlord or not.
The final time this played after you know what gave me chills, love the production and OST of Overlord, top top anime
Director : « don’t go too fancy its just an ending nobody watch those »
Singer and illustrator : « sure….sure… »
overlord intro and outro’s are insane
I love it
One interesting thing I noticed about the part with all the floor guardians is that they all face the screen or at least at looking back at it (cocyotus) but Sebas is not, he is looking away, I’m not too sure what it could mean (or if it even means anything) but considering he is the only guardian with compassion for humanity and the only guardian with a positive karma rating it could be perhaps foreshadowing him starting to really think for himself and not just follow ainz, maybe even him turning to the side of humanity, although that’s just a wild theory, it’s still pretty intriguing regardless

Yup!!
Today, I just finished season 3 of Overlord. My response to this series: Awesome as HELL. *Pun intended*
Can't wait for its season 4
studios gotta do eds like these more, i had this on repeat when i first watched it years ago and my addiction still hasn't worn off
I see this song as about much more than just Overlord. It's about anyone who arrives at a position of power, and then slowly loses their humanity as they do what the position demands.
Que nostalgia me da este ending... Recuerdo cuando lo vi en emisión en el 2018
The ending of this song always gives me goosebumps... makes you feel like this is only the end of the beginning... Fricken beautiful
