Thanks David. Having crash tested three helmets over the past fifteen years, I will never again purchase a helmet without MIPs. I will maximize as many factors as possible in my favor. FWIW, and purely anecdotal, the score now is 1) one non MIPs helmet totaled, TBI and other injuries resulting. 2) two MIPs helmets totaled, zero brain injuries, other injuries resulting. Now each crash was different and I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to form a coherent thought, but again, it's all about me and that means MIPs. It's available in Virginia Tech reviewed helmets for significantly less money than the Kask.
And if you're going to spend that kind of money then the Prevail 3 is the obvious choice in my opinion. Not only saying that because I just bought one, but it's got amazing ventilation and from a safety standpoint it's the #1 road / #2 overall bike helmet per VT's ratings.
The Fizik shoes are a great fit for my narrow feet. However, I found that I can't mount cleats far enough back, they feel like they are under my toes. (size 46)
have you had a professional bike fit /cleat adjustment? My Fizik shoes are 47 and even afterj adjusting it to the back, that's kind of in the middle of the adjustment range...
Thanks so much for the review. I will definitely get a pair of the fizik shoes. Keep uploading all of the excellent content. I look forward to your videos.
I bought the Icon helmet but had to return it as the micro adjustment wheel fell to bits the first time i tried to use it, apparently this is a known problem with this helmet, bought the old protone instead no issues with it.
You said the shoes were a size 45. What is the length of your feet (heel to toe), I suppose you measured it sometime. Just trying to make sense of various size charts. Thanks in advance.
What do you do with those glasses at night? Do you always have to carry day and night glasses? I will never understand why cyclists wear glasses with dark lenses. Photochromic glasses are the only way to go IMO.
I just bought the out going kask protone for $145. Even that price is too much for it! It’s too much for any helmet! £245 is scandalous for the new one. I had to cut the end of the strap off as there is nowhere to tuck the remainder. Pretty poor for a supposed top end helmet.
personally i would pass on all three but that is both physical and environmentally related. i live in florida and both the protone and the sutro lite are the devil in the heat and humidity. fizik shoes are just too narrow and cleat placement is limiting but to be fair i haven't tried that exact pair.
Like a lot of a people here, I’m passing on any Kask helmet. Why would anyone choose a sub standard helmet with such a large range of options that have been independently tested? 🤷♂️ Re: Fizik shoes - why would anyone want white on their off-road shoes?
Nice sunglasses but again nothing for the person who requires prescription lenses. You can double that price or even higher even if they do prescription lenses in that style.

Agreed. At this point MIPS has been very well proven to make helmets safer, don't know why any brand would not try to work with them by now.
Have ridden my Pit Vipers for years. Timeless and very comfortable shades. Protects eyes very well.
I have the exact same problem with the protone strap - it does get annoying sometimes but overall the best helmet I’ve had

David, FYI... the chapter headers for the helmet and sunglasses are switched...
Thanks Fred, have swapped them around :)
Had a white protone....can highly recommend coz had crash & definitely saved me from being badly injured!!
Thanks so much for the review. I will definitely get a pair of the fizik shoes. Keep uploading all of the excellent content. I look forward to your videos.
I had the previous protone for a few years, terrible at funnelling sweat into my eyes. Have they improved it that much ?
Didn't find it an issue on this one but guess we're all different in how much we sweat ?
The problem still have

Yes kask has a recall on ut
Great product video 👍👍
Thank you 👍
Love my protone icon excellent fit and venting
245 for hemet without mips...?
But it passes the WG11 safety standard, which means it can provide a certain degree of rotational impact protection.
As a casual/recreational rider there is no way I am getting a helmet without mips.
Don't understand why Kask is using an internal standard instead of a nationally or internationally recognised one.
Great video, Thanks for that. Pairs well with my morning coffee.
Perfect!

How well do sunglasses dock on the Protone?

Hi Dave.. How are the Sutro Lite for misting? They don’t seem to have any obvious venting? Kind regards Grant
Not a hint of misting to report with them so far in a wide range of conditions Grant
Why would anyone buy an expensive "high end" helmet that doesn't have the latest safety technology when there are so many comparable helmets that do?
I cannot imagine those sand and mud particles stuck on the velcro.
Kask protone icon has a recall 🤦♂️
The fiziK shoes look very narrow. Other wish id get some
I can vouch that they aren't narrow at all, although they may look it at first.
Love the shoes but being a size 50 is quite restricting the only shoes that fit me well are shimano
just buy some cheap bike shoes, throw out the shoes and use the boxes instead!! 😂😂
Them is big feet!!
There's a fourth item.... a good pair of gloves!

Like everyone else says, no mips is a deal breaker. And the price is therefore absurd.
I bought wireless hydraulic rim brakes and don't regret my purchase at all..

Re: Fizik shoes - why would anyone want white on their off-road shoes?
😂 the strap is one of the best features on Kask helmets. I won’t buy until price comes down and they fix the qc issues with the micro adjuster.
The strap is the worst thing about it IMO.
I like the strap well enough, I don't even think about it really. It looks cool - thats the important thing.
@@BikeLife154 Kask leather helmet straps are fiddly to adjust.
An actual weight for the helmet would have been good

Tried contact lenses? I made that switch a million years ago and best thing I ever did
@@davidarthur Hi David yes I have and could nit get on with them. Several times. But thanks for the reply.
£245 for helmet, £300 for shoes. Sure, I could afford them but I don’t consider myself to be stupid.
It would be nice to provide reviews on products the average cyclist would purchase.
Give me a list of products you want reviewed then
@@davidarthur Couple of suggestions David: Carnac (PlanetX) stuff, especially helmets, and Siroko eyewear.
