4:12 She says "öll keðjan sekkur" which means "the whole chain (or links) sinks" Then after she says "taktu eftir ástin, þjáningin er búin, öll búin" Which means "Taking notice sweetheart, the suffering is over, all over" Ástin is such a nice word "ást" means love in icelandic and "ástin" is a word that is said to a loved one, usually by mothers to their child, thats also the way she says it in the song, like she is talking to her child. Such a nice song, it always melts my heart
I have been through so much pressure until yesterday, and now it's all over. This song always heals me from all the stressful and dificult moments. So when I read the meaning of "taktu eftir ástin, þjáningin er búin, öll búin" I started crying all over again... It elevates all the meaning this song has to me, so thank you very much for this. However, I keep trying to somehow understand the meaning of what she started singing at 3:35. I would love to know.
This is my #1 favorite live performance. To me, the first time I saw this whole concert it was a religious experience. Second and Third favorite concert albums are Portishead live in Roseland NY; and the Talking Heads “Stop Making Sense”. But I also loved Voltaic; and Biophilia.
@@lazybelphegore6748 I like portishead too. Third is a cracking album. I havent seen them live I'll check them out. I also really love bjork Iive in cambridge 1998 it's not quite as good as this because there are no songs from Vespertine. This concert brings tears to my eyes and I've seen it many times.
this song calms me down in the most real way. it understands without being preachy. it's beyond perfect and sublime.. i listen to this when i'm freaking out about having to do something epicly important... "it's not meant to be a strife" is such a nice reminder of the way things in the natural world operate around us. "you're trying too hard. surrender".. such simple elegance.
+ovhni Yes, this song hits me like a wave and never fails to make me emotional. I listen to it outside in a snowfall and the stillness is magnified and the cold becomes clear, meditative and disarming. We are often taught to "hold on" all the time in life, and this song says, "let go." I love how receptive this song is... I was thinking before, I would gladly "go" to this song.
the opening lines to this song made me cry on several occasions. I have no problem admitting that---this song is as stunning as it is beautiful , and contains the most kindest and caring messages of hope ever given to mankind and woman kind alike. Thank you Bjork , I truly love you ....
I love how the trombone stands out in the end of the climax, it's so epic... The live version of Undo is probably the best arrangements; I can't wait to hear a recording of the arrangements for the current tour!
Vespertine tour is probably my favorite iteration of Björk live, the Greenland chorus and live strings were amazing and on top of that feaking Matmos supporting the show.
I had very hard and sad times when I was 15, and especially the last lyrics of this song always allowed for a release of emotion, from a place where I otherwise felt so little I hurt myself to feel. So "if you're bleeding, undo, if you're sweating, undo, if you're crying darling, undo," those words always allowed me to feel something.
It reminds me of a very good friend who passed away a couple of weeks ago after struggling with breast cancer. I just can imagine how she was able to detach herself from her body and leave everything behind to set herself free. I close my eyes feeling Björk's last sentences and my friend about to die to finally rest in peace: 4:50 . I've always liked this song in difficult times and now I like it more than ever.
Oh-I finally understand the significance of the outfit she’s wearing in the first half. “Bjork” means Birch in Icelandic. Her pants and boots look like Birch Tree bark; and her dress is made of paper that also resembles Birch bark.
sometimes while i watch this performances (live) my tears just go out from my eyes, i can't contain, a few days for the presentation of Bjork in Mexico, its my first time, i can't wait very excited
I had the same wish for over 25 years and the dream came true yesterday. I thougt i would be overy excited and jump around, but I could only sit quietly and tears came out just endlessly. It didnt feel like a concert but a ceremony...
I often cry for the poor people of Chechnya ---they have been through so much...and i want all of them to know that i love them and love their spirit...God and religion to me are intertwined with compassion . Figure out what compassion is and you will also figure out the very nature of that which is called God. That is all ,thank you good night and God bless Bjork (..and all peoples of Chechnya)
Watched the movie once...ripped my heart out...had to take a long walk after the movie to deal with the emotions...Saint Selma...Bjork is one of the greatest artists ever, either in front of a mike or a camera...bought Dancer in the Dark recently out of sheer respect although I will need a lot of courage watching it again someday...may never watch it again, and it will be my favorite movie of all time...tremendous selfless love and sacrifice...Saint Selma.
Same here .can't describe the Gorgeous, graceful, inspiring Power of this Bjork song..It got me thru Alot of hard times..Probly fav from her..Vespertine is the shitzo! Just wish she sang the really hi note on "Darling-Undo" at the end..like orign vrsn..❤️👍still profoundly sublime .."Ooahhwahh"😉
this is for sure the type of song a person can come to after a hard day and find a warm peace (of the kindness kind...! ) it's in that way that music is so powerful, calming and healing .... where would we all be on this planet without music your guess is as good as mine .... i have nothing but total respect for Bjork perhaps people get sick of reading my unending comments about Bjork but what can i say? i absolutely adore her so i am sorry if i have pissed people off ...
Woke up one morning in very early spring time of 1987.Was waiting my turn in the kitchen, while children and mothers were using the kitchen .Staring at the floor is clarity of sight space for the first time! What a blast! Realised there and then who had that same clarity,in my life. So when I came across these people I knew, of like mindedness ...there was no solidarity.NZ. Felt like a stranger in astrange land. When I found myself in Oz, had no compulsion to go back....There was a woman in NZ I’d had relations with before Australia. If I was wise then like I am now,I would have stayed with her...There is nothing else like her....
I saw the HBO special at Riverside Church when it was first broadcast 2001. I was entranced then and now still love her music. I am 70 now. Long time fan.
4:30 i. You're in the middle of the ocean and you were caught in this unforgiving storm that made you miserable, and 4:30 is the moment the storm ends. Still you don't want to believe something good would happen to you just like you didn't believe something as bad as that storm would have happened to you before it happened. But they do, both bad and good. You have dignity and the right to feel good so allow yourself to this clear sky, to easy, to good.
@@jose.a9215 she has an extraordinary way of putting these things that are hard to explain to the core of her compositions. Not just lyrics wise but as a whole. Her music captures you by the right place. She always uses these phrases in her songs: trust in it, give yourself in, surrender... I kind of like to think of our emotions as an ocean. When you want to swim the more you struggle, the harder for you to float. You kind of have to let it be. That's the thing about water, you cannot fight with it, it is already trying to carry you. Life is like that too. Don't try to fight life. We don't swim we just live and the more we struggle to stay floated, the easier we drown... We should do something when things moves us like this song does. It's great to know there is a person somewhere that comes to this performance at last. :)
Extraordinary piece of music. Though I prefer how the Studio version puts her to the back a bit more, so you can hear the arrangement & choir much more.
=00 thank you......one of the very best Bjork performance i have seen here on youtube! i love the little bouncing dance she does at the begining!!..have a nice one everybody...
she can make me cry like no one does
The ending of this performance always brings me to tears. So beautiful.
And if you're bleeeeding, darling 😭

This royal opera house performance is the greatest live film I've ever seen. It's magical. Bjork was at her peak here.

Riverside Church performance is also very good😊👍❤️🇬🇧
Riverside Church was Magic 1.0
It is not meant to be a strife
It is not meant to be a struggle uphill
Bu bir çekişme değil
Bu zorlu bir uğraş demek değil
Cok haklisin abi
Truly one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
X2 🥺
This is one of those special live performances that the mainstream doesn't really know about that stays with you forever.

This song is like the beautiful dissolution of the body to give way to the gentle release of the soul within...

I feel blessed to live in the same time period as this amazing woman
So true

this song feels like a warm, comforting hug
Proof that Heaven exists and it’s pure Love.
The last minutes has always been my favorite part of this song

Vespertine tour is probably my favorite iteration of Björk live, the Greenland chorus and live strings were amazing and on top of that feaking Matmos supporting the show.
I used to not think there was such a thing as perfection. Having watched this performance over and over these past years, I believe I've found it.
Bjork has lots of wisdom.
Her lyrics resonate with truth. It's not meant to be a struggle uphill.
You're trying too hard.
Surrender.
Wow! Just wow!! I just quit my job because my boss was verbally abusive and I needed this!

Orchestration (especially strings) in this song is so beautiful I am speechless. Pure art, beauty and perfection.
Music like this keeps me breathing and alive, the comedy and tragedy that life is, everyone should discover this..
