What exactly did Napolean do that was so bad? I know he imposed his nation-state system on Europe but beyond that didn't he usher in more modern practices? (By the way I'm not a Napolean stan I just don't know a ton beyond textbook stuff and I find Atun's position interesting)
Executed POWs, left his men behind in Palestine, lied to get the French people to support him against the 7th coalition, lied to the various peoples of Palestine to get their suport against the British. Essentially he didn't give a rat's ass about anyone's wellbeing if it hampered his selfish ambitions
@Usahnaym He did plenty bad things, some neccessery, some not. His treatment of Haiti will forever be a stain on his legacy. Yet, if you we judge all of his accomplishments, you have to agree he did more good than bad. He brought revolutionary, enlightment values to many parts of europe like Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, Croatia. His napoleonic code is a foundament of continental law system and vast improvement upon absolutist or even feudal laws that were present before in countries he conquered. He helped abolish serfdom not only in parts of europe he controlled but also pressured other countries like for example Prussia to do the same. He spread liberal and egalitarian values through out europe which endured even after his defeat. He was not a bloodthirsty warlord as british propaganda portaited him, contrary the only war he started in europe was the russian invasion of 1812, although even there he had reasonable casus belli, because russian Tzar broken the treaty of Tilsit by opening trade with the british who were the real warmongers of Napoleonic era. Also, for some nations like Italy and especially Poland, he was a liberator and is very popular to this day. Even in countries that didn't appreciate his army's presence, he advised soldiers not to abuse the populace, like in an order to his army in Egypt, when he told his soldiers to be tolerant to local muslims, not offending their customs and treating them equal to christians or jews. @@anthonyhayes1267 So he lied? Like every other politician ever. What a monster.
I thought the 21st century had taught us that trying to export your allegedly more enlightened political system to unwilling parties through highly destructive wars is not a good idea
I totally understand the "NO" in response to Napoleon. Think about it: without Napoleon there is no German unification or a weakening of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. There is also no nationalism movement of 1848 and Metternich, et al. Without any of that that there is none of the political and military chess that led to The Great War. AND of course The Great War gave us WWII, and WWII gives us the Cold War and all of our problems we have now. But of course there would have been no Napoleon without the French Revolution.... but that's wouldn't have happened if King Louis hadn't blown the French treasury on the American War of Independence...and he wouldn't have done that if the Seven Years War hadn't left a sour taste in the Bourbon's mouths...and the Seven Year's War wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for a 22 year old Virginian too cocky for his own good who overstepped his governor's orders and shot a French ambassador dead in a small glen in The Laurel Highlands on the American frontier. So George Washington is to blame for the last 266 years of western history.
Prequels had "Duel of the fates" Tbh I like the prequel movies and love the prequels lore. Clone Wars tv show definitely made me appreicate the smaller things going on during ep.2 and 3. Plus always gotta love the prequel memes.
That mention of a Californian column immediately made me recall a really strange tidbit of Australian history trivia; in 1854 during the gold rush here in Victoria we had one of our few instances of outright rebellion against Crown authority, basically, the Crown taxed the miners too much and it turned into a heated gamer moment. The reason why the Californians sparked my memory, was that there was a heap of Cali goldminers who gleefully joined the rebellion and organised themselves into a unit of "dragoons" and it's terribly amusing imagining a heap of cowboys armed with Colt revolvers facing off against the redcoats in the Strayan bush.
I went to the Philippines around Christmas and I’ve gotta tell you, driving around in a country with poor infrastructure REALLY makes you appreciate those American highways

That's why is debatable Germany today is a great nation as far as world war one goes I blame everyone. but Napoleon did bring the ideas of liberalism that affected Nations long after he was going but I'm afraid this debate is way too complicated to debate in this matter. it's one of those debates I love to argue without having a firm stand on anything. there might not be a correct answer he did good he did bad he did Inn between
You're correct about no World War World War II no Cold War but we don't know it could have been worse the first world war ended many royal families and brought about Democratic systems
Clearest example is imo is his brandon f video, but also union and confederate soldier def got somethin on the side lol. Maybe its just that i imagine as many possible gay undertones as possible
You should do a video about how truly awesome and underrated president Grant was, and how he’s unfairly portrayed by lost cause people as drunk, butcher, and corrupt. Grant is a truly incredible person.
The American revolution (specifically the aftermath of the revolution) is certainly an outlier in history in how peaceful the new country was after the revolution. Certainly it was because the social order remained largely unchanged for the vast majority of the population, but that was at least initially true for most revolutions in Latin America 30-40 years later, as well. I suppose the United States could very easily have gone down the same path as Colombia or Mexico. Compared to other violent revolutions like in Russia, Haiti, China, or France, where the social order was completely overturned it only ever seemed to lead to even more bloodshed and misery. I feel unqualified to give on opinion on the argument of "revolution vs. reform," because in those revolutions, the social order WAS completely broken. The people (legitimately) felt they had no other recourse than the violent overthrow of their oppressors. Maybe there was no other option. But then you have situations like Canada, in which they just kind of gradually chipped away at their independence through reform over a long period of time, and look at where they are today. It's an argument that doesn't have a simple answer. Canadians were never starving in the streets or being massacred wholesale, though independence movements certainly grew massively after each World War. Even then, though, they just didn't want the Monarchy deciding their foreign policy; they were totally fine being left in the Commonwealth.
Saying the social order remained unchanged is really bold considering something like 5% of the population, mostly upper class but not wholly, were expelled as Loyalists at the end of the war. Some 100k people were chased out to settle in Canada or Britain or elsewhere. It's one thing to say the American Revolution was the victory of one faction of the elite over another, but the Loyalists were definitely a pretty high social position group of people in general and they were overwhelmingly chased out for good.
For a great historical workplace comedy, Id reccomend Plebs, a British sitcom about clerks and a slave in Rome. Some of the comedy is like the Flintstones ( How did ancient people do otherwise modern things?) but much of the comedy stems from Roman society, religion, economy, and fashion.
When I started term paper in high school World History class, my topic was "Why Napoleon was bad for Europe." After doing the research, I changed my topic to "Why Napoleon was good for Europe."

I really have high hopes for this channel man I haven’t been watching it for thaattttttt long but it’s grown so much so quickly I remember it being like 47k yesterday and today it’s 48!!!!! And when I first subbed it was like 39k I believe but I love this channel and it’s so great to have another history UA-cam channel that is actually likeable so I hope your channel goes high, thank you.
No Napolean, then who knows how long the the HRE lingers on.
Extra value with that gem segment at the end.
Would love to hear your take on WW2 reenacting. I imagine there will be the same comments about 300 lb soldiers with iphones.
Ww2 is junk

3:33 dodging the question like Dumbledore did about looking into the mirror
Snefru's bent pyramid has been my favourite ever since I built it in Pharaoh 😆

o.k.
I love that you use Spyro the Dragon music in your videos!
Prequels had "Duel of the fates"
Tbh I like the prequel movies and love the prequels lore. Clone Wars tv show definitely made me appreicate the smaller things going on during ep.2 and 3.
Plus always gotta love the prequel memes.
Thanks!

"Athens or Sparta?"
What if you choose Macedon?
Macedon is best Greece. Screw the Byzantines, screw Sparta, screw the Mycenaeans, Alexander is number one,
You have to edit the game file first if you want to play Macedon.
Aw dude that Napoleon response was such a tease.
Man I am staying here on earth even if it kills me, Mars is just Nevada without blue skies
I think your next video should be talking about certain historical riots, love your content so glad I found you!
I'm not saying Napoleon was necessary a good guy but I think you could debate the changes that happened because of him we're positive

This channel reminds me of Scott the Woz or Smosh except with history instead of video games. I love it.
Now I have to re-watch all the videos and keep meticulous records of all the homoerotic content - for science! (and for the Witchfinder General..)
Clearest example is imo is his brandon f video, but also union and confederate soldier def got somethin on the side lol. Maybe its just that i imagine as many possible gay undertones as possible
3:32 with subtitles is an often asked question.
Just here to feed the algorithm
Just going to say this. I've been thoroughly entertained by you content. It randomly showed up in my recommendations and I'm glad it did.
Damn! That’s a great Bernie impression!
My favourite star wars movie was the last 4 episodes of The Clone Wars.
When I started term paper in high school World History class, my topic was "Why Napoleon was bad for Europe." After doing the research, I changed my topic to "Why Napoleon was good for Europe."
I agree i've read a lot about the master of Europe and it is indeed sad how he propagandized by the English into this monster.
Wow that ended up sounding way more aggressive. Will there be an iTunes release of your dope cover? Would love to request it at a wedding.
I'm impressed you know about the Bent Pyramid. The Meidum Pyramid was an even better of them figuring out how to build Pyramids for Snefru.
I'd love to see 40 year old you doing Checkmate Lincolnites.
I honestly didn't expect such a response to my question! Thanks so much
Why is it we Americans never really mention the korean war and glance over it in history books
Usually because in most US history classes the Vietnam war is the next thing you learn and you can imagine that teachers would take a-lot of time teaching that
I mean shit in like 20-30 years. I wonder what what things will have to get cut out to fit late 20th & early 21st century stuff for American history.
Because the Korean war has not yet ended. It is only a cease fire.
Saints fan, Mr plinkett fan, historian, anti-'great man', this is the best channel I have discovered in years

SMH! Buy him books , send him to school and oh look a squirrel...
I adore your videos. You and I would surely disagree on many topics, mostly politically, but in the end we’re on the same side. Truth. History. Caring about people. Keep making your videos I’ll keep watching.
So about the History Channel's Grant miniseries that just released...
Didn’t know I needed that rendition in my life, but all the better for it.
