ඉතින් මාතලේ පහුකරන් නාඋල පැත්තට යද්දී මට හමුවුනා බොහෝම ලස්සනට විවිධ ලී කැටයම් කරන තැනක්.ඉතින් මම ගිහින් බැලුවා.ඉතින් අපි බලමු මොකක්ද මේ සම්මාන පිට සම්මාන ගත්තු තැන කියලා.
පුරාණ ලී කැටයම්

ඓතිහාසික හා පුරාවිද්‍යාත්මක සාධක හමුවේ ශ‍්‍රී ලංකාව තුල කලා නිර්මාණ ව්‍යාප්තිය සිදු වීම මහින්දාගමනයෙන් පසුව බව විශ්වාසයි. එහිදී චිත‍්‍ර කලාව මුර්ති කලාව කැටයම් කලාව ආදිය වශයෙන් කලා නිර්මාණ බිහි වුණී.මේ අතරින් කැපී පෙනෙන කලවක් ලෙස දැව කැටයම් කලාව පේනවා දිය හැකිය. කිසියම් ඝන ද්‍රව්‍යක කුඩා කොටස් ඉවත් කිරීමෙන් එක්තරා රුපාකරයකට හැඩ ගැස්වීම ”කැටයම් කිරීම” යනුවෙන් හැදින්වේ. මෙම ඝන ද්‍රව්‍ය ගල් නම් එම ශිල්පය ”ගල් කැටයම්” යනුවෙන්ද, ඝන ද්‍රව්‍ය ඇත දත් වූ විට ශිල්පය ”ඇත් දත් කැටයම්” යනුවෙන්ද, ඝන ද්‍රව්‍ය දැව වූ විට ශිල්පය දැව කැටයම් වශයෙන්ද හදුන්වනු ලැබේ. කැටයම් කිරීමෙන් කිසියම් සැරසිල්ලක් කිරීම හෝ කලාත්ම අදහසක් පිළිබිඹු කිරීම හෝ කරනු ලැබේ.
කැටයම් කිරීමේ කලාව එතරම් පහසුකර ශිල්පයක් නොවේ. එයට ප්රධාන හේතුව වනුයේ වරක් වැරදුන හෝ අනවශ්‍ය ආකාරයට කැටයම් වුනු දෙයක් නැවත සකස් කල නොහැකි වීමයි. පලූද්දක් හෝ වැරදුන ස්ථානයක් වසා සකස් කිරීම, සන්ධි කිරීම ආදිය කැටයමේ අගය අඩු කරන හෙතුන්ය. බොහෝ විට හුදු රසාස්වාදය සදහා අදහස් ප‍්‍රකාශ කරන කැටයම් ගෙවල මෙන්ම පොදු ස්ථාන වලද ප‍්‍රදර්ශනය කෙරේ.තවද ආගමික පුජනිය ස්ථානවල ආගමික සිද්ධීන් පිළිබිඹු කිරීමට ද ලී කැටයම් යොදා ගනු ලැබේ. බිත්ති, උළුවහු, දොරවල්,ගෘහභාණ්ඩ ආදිය සිත් ගන්නා සුළු පෙනුමකින් සරසා තැබීමටද දැව කැටයම් උපයෝගී කර ගනී. බර අඩුකම, කැඩි බිදී කිලිටි වී යාම අඩුකම නිසා දව කැටයම් භාණ්ඩ පහසුකම් රාශියක් සපයයි.ශ‍්‍රී ලංකේය ඓතිහාසික ගෘහ නිර්මාණ ශිල්පයේ දැව උපයෝගිත්වයෙන් නිර්මාණය ලද නිර්මාණයෝ බොහෝ වෙති. රාජකීය හා පුජනිය ගොඩනැගිලි ඉදි කිරීම සදහා ශිල්පීහු දැව උපයෝගී කර ගැනීම ඈත අතීතයේ සිටම දක්නට ලැබේ.අප රටෙහි පමණක් නොව අනෙක් සෑම රටකම පාහේ දැව කැටයම් කලාවේ ඉතිහාසය බොහෝ දුරාතිතයේ සිටම අධ්‍යනය කිරීමට තරම් ජීවමාන සාක්ෂි ඉතිරි වී නොමැත.ඊට හේතුව ඉතා පුරාණයේ දැව කැටයම් කලාව නොතිබීම නොව දැව ඉතා ඉකමනින් ක්ෂය වන ද්‍රව්‍යක් නිසාවෙනි.

ලී කැටයම් කලාවේදී නැතුවම බැරි මෙවලම් කිහිපයක්ම වේ. පැතලි නියන, බොකු නියන, වී නියන, අතකොලුව, රාස්කුව, පුල්ලෝරම, කියත, මුලු මට්ටම, මල් ඇණය, බුරුමය, මැගිලිය, පීර ඒ අතර වැදගත්.

Ancient wood carvings

In the light of historical and archeological evidence, it is believed that the spread of art in Sri Lanka took place after the arrival of Mahinda Rajapaksa. There, works of art such as painting, sculpture and carving were created. Among these, wood carving can be seen as a prominent art. The process of removing small parts of a solid into a shape is called "engraving". If the solid material is stone, the craft is called "stone carving", when the solid material is tooth, the craft is called "ivory carving", and when the solid material is wood, the craft is called wood carving. Engraving is the act of making a decoration or reflecting an artistic idea.
The art of carving is not an easy craft. The main reason for this is that something that was once wrong or unnecessarily engraved cannot be recreated. Closing or repairing a fault or misalignment, etc., will reduce the value of the carving. Carvings are often displayed in homes as well as in public places for mere enjoyment, and wood carvings are also used to reflect religious events in religious shrines. Wood carvings are also used to decorate walls, tiles, doors, furniture, etc. in an attractive way. Due to its light weight and low fragility, it offers a wide range of material carvings. The use of wood by craftsmen for the construction of royal and sacred buildings can be traced back to ancient times. But not because the wood decomposes so quickly.
