Did you know that "La Brea" means "The Tar" in Spanish, so The La Brea Tar Pits means literally "The The Tar Tar Pits".
Same as people calling DC as DC Comics (Detective comics comics)
@@worlds3061 or chai tea
Is it a large tar pit? Or more of a mini taur tar?
FedEx Express as well
“The Tar Tar Pits” are one of my favorite bands 😉🤣
She came out to LA to become an actress but got caught in a sticky situation.
🤣😂😜
She jumped off the sign...
LOL!!!
That's basically the plot of Mulholland Drive.
@@gyozakeynsianism can’t even imagine what the Silencio scene would look like in prehistoric times
I spent a lot of time thinking about this when I worked there. I've always thought that she wasn't local and that that explained both her diet and the fact that she was trapped in the first place. It seems locals avoided being trapped in the seeps, possibly due to familiarity with them. If she wasn't a local it would explain why she wasn't familiar enough with the phenomenon to avoid it and why her diet wasn't typical of the region. As far as the stuff found near her, the churning within the site means that proximity is absolutely meaningless for fossils found within the seeps so it's not really worth exploring as related. I do wonder if more human remains have been found and just not identified. We would get a lot of fragments that we could identify and even piece back together in the fossil lab there, but we would also get a lot we could not identify beyond mammalian, avian, etc. DNA can't be extracted from La Brea bones, so we are reliant on taxonomic and morphologic identification techniques. Why can't we get DNA from the bones? That was still an active mystery last time I checked... is it the asphalt? Is it cleaning and preservation techniques in the lab? Other environmental conditions? The jury is still out on that one.
Aren't tar pits really hot? Can heat break down dna?
Would it have been from stumbling too close to the tar shore? Or was there unstable ground that made it easy to get stuck? I have long thought that the animals got stuck due to running from danger or trying to get to food that's already stuck. And maybe Hominin intelligence kept em from getting stuck after seeing the fate of other animals
Maybe she was a sacrifice of some kind I've been to the Tar pit Museum many many times throughout my life and I appreciate the work you people have done their honestly thank you
thank you so much. no big deal - just the facts, which, in these circumstances, make a lot of sense. :) 🌷🌱
Never have I started listening to a podcast faster.
Teach me more, magic knowledge man
Just followed y’all’s podcast! Your stuff is the perfect format for it.
The podcast was a really interesting listen!
I will be listening to it today!
So excited for this podcast!
Where can i listen to it
I don’t often check out people’s podcasts but your channel is primed for it so it feels natural
When he said "The first episode of our new podcast" I found the podcast on Spotify and followed it instantly lol
how does one even begin to excavate stuff from tar pits?!?
Try to find a video of the process, it’s so cool!
If you go to the actual La Brea tar pits museum they often have a live excavation you can watch. I’m not sure if they still do it as I haven’t been in almost a decade. It was quite the spectacle, though.
@@sIimepoop aw I want to go now that sounds awesome! I hope they still do that
You have to pull really hard, then clean off afterwards.
The suck the tar out with big straws /j
We'll be posting short form videos like this from time to time but if you are looking for longer-form content from the Eons team, don't worry! We're still posting our normal UA-cam videos (a new one will be up next week!) and you can even head over to your favorite podcast app and subscribe to our podcast "Eons: Mysteries of Deep Time" where Blake, Michelle and Kallie will focus in on the greatest mysteries of natural history.
Nothing beats the longer, more comprehensive videos.
Can you upload your podcast on UA-cam? That's were some people (like me) listen to them. Thanks ✌
can you upload the Podcast on google podcast please 😊
I would love to listen to it
Do PBS Shorts channel for this content
I guess "hidden" dislikes are working as intended
@@ImRandomDude Yeah, I agree, I'm unsubbing cause I don't want my sub feed to be clogged up with these "from time to time" shorts.
"She's known as Cindy and she slipped."
^ true story ^
The first podcast episode was great, looking forward to more! Hope you'll do some longer ones too, I'm sure there are some topics that would fit much better in a longer podcast rather than a UA-cam video.
Lol, I did know that! Because I've been to the LA Brea Tarpits!
Same... because I used to work there.
Yay - glad you’ll be posting videos! I really enjoy the visuals that come with the information. Thanks - looking forward to the next UA-cam videos!!
Just the sound quality: *chef's kiss*
now I'm just gonna UA-cam search "LA Brea Tar Woman" and find a video that explains the story in 10 mins or less
DID YOU FIND ONE??? IF SO LET ME KNOW... I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR OVER AN HOUR.... IDK IF ITS MY UA-cam ALGORITHM THATS BEING DIFFICULT OR IF THE VIDEOS JUST DONT EXSIST..... OYE
Is he ok? He looks like someone socked him right in the eye
Was gonna comment this if I didn't see it
Lack of makeup probably
It's probably speep deprivation. I always look like him.
lighting maybe
He was the one who killed the lady in the tar pits. She tried to fight back.
He's just saying it's been debunked, because he wants to get away with it.
This guy never misses with his facts bruh i swear
Awesome! I immediately added the podcast!! Appreciate you 😊
I found myself be able to follow thing better with podcast It really is the perfect format and It is a fun story thank you guys!
They are also on Spotify 🙂
Thanks for the Pod
Glad to see that I can now find the podcast on Google podcasts!
UA-cam has changed the layout of these shorts so badly that they're unwatchable on PC. No volume, full screen or quality controls. What is going on...
I agree, I also hate that change. However, luckily, there's a fix! You can just change the URL from /short/videoID to /watch?v=videoID, and voilà, old layout.
I suggest installing some kind of redirector plugin for your browser that automatically redirects you, so you don't have to change the URL manually all the time. It's what I did, and it's working beautifully so far.
I think UA-cam wants to mimic Tiktok somehow.
@@pixelmaster98 Oh! That is useful thanks, I hope they enable some setting for it tho. But otherwise I guess someone will make an addon.
@@Ninjaananas old news
Idk they are fine on a phone 📱...
I'm not seeing it as an option on Google Podcasts
Me either.
@geoffj3191 its seems he left an apple podcast link in the description.
I could not find it at first either on google podcasts but I just checked again and it popped up no problems when I searched "eons mysteries of deep time" 👍🏻
Loved the first episode of the podcast and can’t wait for more!
I listened to your podcast on my walk to work. What a great way to start the day. I loved it.
Tar pit? More like forbidden swimming pool, amiright?
My indigenous people where here for a good minute .
Okay now I have to listen the podcast.
Had us in the first half
Bruh listened to a UA-cam shirt just for the answer to be an advertisement
Humans, being smarter than mammoths, short-faced bears, and sloths, proved to be pretty adept at avoiding smelly tar pits full of dead animals. Except Eunice.
Not Cindy though.
“Immmm siiiinnnkkiiiinnn in the la brea tar pits”
Yes! This is exactly the type of podcast I’ve been looking for.
I didn't know about the podcast. Following on Spotify now. Thanks!
I think the "La Brea woman" may be a kindred spirit. She's yet another person who died trying to pet an animal only to fall victim to misadventure. 😆
Just what I need. Another podcast. All right fine!
Great content, wouldn't expect any less from pbs, keepit up👍
“How did she die” Suffocation
I would really love to listen to this podcast any chance you can post it on you tube?
Yes please. Make it easy on us please. You don't have to use fancy images, just set a background and upload it.
I hope they don't do that. The official UA-cam app on phones doesn't even allow audio playback in the background.
How would that be better than a podcast in any way? I'm honestly curious if there is a compelling reason.
@@Kerbezena mostly because it shows up in UA-cam feeds. When I want this sort of content, I go looking on UA-cam. I don't want to check a bunch of individual sites. Out of sight, out of mind
@@Kerbezena if you open it in a web browser you can play in the background
Loving the shorts.
Not the only human pulled out of the tar pits though, thanks to David Mascarenas.
I’ve already listen to the first podcast and it is absolutely the best podcast ever,
I didn't know about your podcast. I do now and I'm gonna listen to them tomorrow at work. Ta.
Where do people get podcasts?!
Link is in the description.
Podcast shop
Really enjoyed the first episode of the podcast. I think you can even experiment and go for a longer format. A lot of science podcasts are now at 40/45 even 55 mins.
I listen to some at work, since my job is kinda of repetitive I listen to a lot of podcasts the longer the better, I listen to some that are almost 2 hours long 😊
Is the podcast on yt?
I can't find this on Google podcast :(
Same here, if anybody knows a trick to find it, please let me know!
Try looking it up on Spotify! The podcast is there :))

What's really cool is that because Metro is tunneling for the Purple line extension in that area, there have been more fossil discoveries within the last year!
I downloaded and listen to stitcher for the first time in 6 years JUST to listen to your podcast. You guys rock, and you’re one of my favorite channels on YT! TYSM for making this content 💜
Great podcast really worth the listen
Love the podcast! I enjoy that format for driving. Can’t wait for more!
Love the podcast!
I've seen her. The museum had her on display back in the 90's.
There was a very famous tv show
Just listened to the podcast, and it was great! Really looking forward to more!
Just listened to the podcast, it's an eerily interesting series of theories.
Only found one body eh? Glad my plan has been working out swimmingly.
Hope u make a video about her too with animation and all, not just podcast. Would love to see that .
The La Brea woman terrified me as a child. I remember being puzzled by this reconstruction of a woman's face among all these animal remains. I wandered over just as the face faded away to reveal a human skull. I might have shrieked.
I just listened to that today , i was very much enjoying it
more Eons content. LETS GOO!
Can we pleaaase get back to regular videos?
Debunking a murder mystery AND Science? A dangerous offer, my friends.
Absolutely loved it! Can’t wait for the next one. Hello to Missoula people from Bozeman!
his voice sounds so like smooth? nice? mysterious???!
Wonder if she'll show up as a charater in LA Brea show.
This video proves how men look MUCH better with makeup. He’s soooo handsome with the make-up.
What the heck happened?!
Love these shorts..

I really loved the podcast, i really felt i was there with those sound effects, i hope to find a lot more podcast episodes from you guys:)
I have heard a lot of people throw murder weapons and stuff in there though so there might be more people who got thrown in there recently that they just haven't found yet...

Thanks, Blake! I instantly subbed to the podcast.
Smart Blake!
Even back then, the locals knew enough to avoid LA.
Just listened to it now u got me thinking
I've been there before it's just a couple of tar pits
this guy seems like a generic movie villain
how much you wanna bet he did it as a dare?
I don’t believe it. Not that this man is lying, but these finds of humans have been top secret.
I don't know who you are.
But you got me interested old man (sir).
