I’ve yet to run it yet but after going through the core set I have to say it feels a touch incomplete to me. I think the classes need more to distinguish themselves from each other, one feat doesn’t feel like enough. I’m ok with hard and challenging combat but I think the action economy is a little lopsided Feat options on paper don’t feel like they’re anything special. There needs to be drastically more loot/treasure options. The core set just feels like a beginner box instead of a fully fleshed out game. After my criticism I am excited to actually run a session in the hope my initial skepticism is turned to elation. To put my gaming experience into context I already play AD&D, OSR, and call of Cthulhu.
I can agree with that a bit. but after playing twice now I feel that combat is smooth, brutal and very tactical! But again that is my experience and I can see where others might not feel the same. Thanks for watching and the comment Travis and have fun gaming!
@@MrMeanSpeaks I’m good with tactical combat, that can be deadly. I just think it’s a bit too lopsided. Thematically Dragonbane presents itself as a game to have epic adventures but when everything can one shot a character whether it’s session 1 or session 10, the balance feels off. A game I love is shadow of the demon lord. Combat is definitely dangerous but it feels more balanced. Perhaps after I have ran a session or two my opinion will change. But I do feel that for this game to have great success, in what’s now a very saturated market, it’s going to need to expand on its content very soon.
@@TravisWilliams_ Agreed but like I said I have ran it and think its ok, not perfect but good, the pc's "felt" heroic but not godlike as in some games! Let me know what you think once you get it on the table...I do agree they need to get some supplements out asap!
I'm suspicious of this one. A couple years ago Riotminds released a game called Ruin Masters, like Dragonbane it was also a Swedish RPG inspired by Drakar och Demoner. Riotminds' game has the exact same interior artwork, even though I recall Free League claiming Egerkrans' work was being specially designed for use with Dragonbane, though I might be wrong. Then there's the similarities between this and Forbidden Lands. Also, as confusing as the nostalgic renaissance of Swedish roleplaying seems to be, upon closer inspection it appears that the original game, Drakar och Demoner, is a hodgepodge of Runequest and Dungeons & Dragons with artwork, "Borrowed" from various fantasy publications. It's like the legacy of Swedish RPG's comes from some Swedes having random books from multiple systems and just making it all work out. From that we get nostalgia for a Frankenstein's monster of a classic game. It obviously works, but it looks like they're still adding parts to the creature, as Dragonbane clearly swipes 5e rules as well. Sure, this is odd stuff, but it is an interesting game. It does feel like it's part of this new wave of RPG's which are influenced by people who hopped onto the RPG bandwagon, but what they really want to play are board games or LARPs. Instead of going in either of those other directions they're trying to force tabletop roleplaying games to adopt aspects of the others. This might work for some people, but I can definitely understand why this particular mutation does not seem to be catching on with a lot of us older gaming hobbyists. The hobby has always been about experimentation, though. It will be interesting to see what new stuff crawls forth from the tabletop laboratory in the coming years.
I agree as well but having ran it twice now, it does not feel like 5e, and not having access to the Swedish version (original) I can't say, but it was fun to run! Thanks so much for the comment and watxhing!
Hey there. I just zapped my comment. For whatever issues i may have, it's no reason to bring negativity here or be a dick in the comments. I apologize for that.
Love Dragonbane - Free League my fav RPG company
They pretty cool! But not as cool as Pick Pocket Press!
haha you're a good man@@MrMeanSpeaks
It was a blast! BBEG are really dangerous, combat choices are important! Fun game for sure Mr Mean.
Thanks Larry I am glad you had a fun time!
I will pick it up sooner or later
Thanks Superbeast! You will enjoy it!
Savage Worlds has been around since the early 2000's and it uses cards for initiative. Nothing new or trendy, IMO.
Agree'd and I am a big fan of SW...

I need to know, how did it make you feel more engaged as the GM? Was it a specific mechanics or is it just how the game is written?
I spoke about it in the video! 😛

All good man I did not take it that way! You like what you like! Or don't. It's allowed 😁
Promo sm 🌟
Not sure what Promo sm means, bit thanks for the comment and watching!
I'm seeing a trend of using gimmicky mechanics, like cards, and game designers just need to stop.
yea but sometimes it works! In this case I think it works...
Then game on! @@MrMeanSpeaks
Im thinking cards could maybe be used in a boss fight. But not everytimr
I really need card initiative to go away. I hate it so much. Why are we even doing initiative anymore?
If I ever ran it I would get rid of the Initiative cards and the death saves.
I can see that!
