- Do you want to know what it is like to buy koi in Japan for you fish pond? Join Koi Partner as we travel to Japan for our koi buying trip. In this movie I invite you to go on a trip with me to the world of Koi.
Hidden away in the mountains of a Japanese prefecture lies a small village called Yamakoshi. When the autumn makes his entry, hundreds of people from all over the world travel to Japan to find that one specific potential champion Koi.
Each of those treasure hunters are hoping to buy that one extraordinary, Unique and one-of-a-kind, swimming juwel.
But finding and buying that one specific koi Isn't quite easy. As a matter of fact, it's one of the hardest of most excited things that belong to our hobby.
Sometimes it takes years before you see the difference in quality
well, where should you pay attention to as a Koi hobbyist.
And what is it like to buy a potential champion? I recently returned from my fifth Koi trip to Japan and this year
I've learned more than ever before. In this movie I take you with me on a journey to the Land of the Rising Sun Japan..
Doing business in Japan is different than in the rest of the world
Flying to Japan with a big bag of money and buying the best koi for your pond is not how to Japanese breeders do business. In fact, they attach a lot of value to a strong and long relationship
One of the advantages associated with a good relationship is the hospitality of the breeders.
We start a first day at the Yagenji koi farm, located high in Yamakoshi Mountains where we are invited to join a two-year-old koi harvest.
Each breeder has his own mud ponds in the mountains some larger breeders have more than hundreds of those ponds a mud pond is a natural pond full of minerals and natural nutrients for the koi.
By allowing the fish to swim in a mud pond during this summer. They grow big by natural way

Only started keeping Koi a few years ago, really enjoyed your video. Some beautiful fish here but this makes you appreciate how much hard work goes into producing these fish. Thanks for sharing
These fish are simply magnificent. They are so bold and so calm in the water. They have been a favorite of mine since I was around 12 years old. I had a 30 Gallon tank with 2 big Goldies and 14 Comet Feeder Goldfish from the festival in town for many years and some turned Platinum-Brass-Gold.
Wonderful video. I have truly developed a keen interest in Koi now. I look forward to your future videos. I was an Interior Designer for many years so my love of beautiful tings has always turned my head towards Koi. I even created a fake Koi pond out of my living room table with small ceramic Koi under a glass top swimming through a silvery base. A client saw it and wanted it so badly I sold it to him. I should do another and make the fish more individualized now that. You’ve taught me more about types and skins. Thank you again for sharing your wisdom. I love it.

Absolutely breath taking! I was distracted slightly by the boy pretending to throw that poor dog in the water. Despite my impaired attention span, the pond and entire set up is jaw dropping. I love Brian’s passion for plants not only the found and falls.

I have a pond , it’s about 4000 gal 3 feet deep the pond is 21 years old now , and I still have some of the original koi , all tho my fish are not like the ones on the video, but I still love them anyway . They have brought me joy over the years , they are my pets and there all named lol I love the video and wish there were more about koi on u tube beautiful, beautiful koi ... thank you for the video🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

Thank you! Love your video! Waiting for our pool to be finished so we can rebuild our koi pond! Have had our pups in 3 hardshell pools since end of September, 2018. It is difficult to keep the algae under control in Arizona, but the fish are doing well.
I had one black & white koi with scales that we called Macrema, however he busted out of the pool in November...I could not revive him. I was so sad! Thank you for the lesson on specific subspecies of koi, also.

my eyes just see beauty in all Koi that I see, the heron that visits my pond feels the same way, he always steals my best one's.

Koi here are so gentle and not splashing like other big fish. They are like little pet.. so cute.
Exactly. They almost look sedated. None of the wild carps I have caught was so well-behaved. These noble koi carps are incredibly tame.

I already have 28 butterfly koi in my pond and I really enjoy watching them but they are about 2-4 yrs old and not this big in my 9 meter pond😑😤 I guess its about the genes.

I grew up with the koi at the Ala Moana Shopping Center on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. As they got bigger, I got bigger, and I'd "visit" with them, recognizing different ones. Maybe they recognized me.
