  • In this video, we visit the Tuckerton Seaport in Tuckerton, Ocean County, Southern New Jersey. Tuckerton has a rich maritime history and industries like clamming, crabbing, pound fishing, lumber milling, and others were vibrant here. Originally settled in 1698 by Quakers, Tuckerton was not officially independently incorporated until 1901. The town was named for Ebenezer Tucker, an early collector (customs and trade) in the area and a notable local Revolutionary War Patriot. Today, the seaport features a small museum that is a replica of the 1848 Tuckerton lighthouse that was once on nearby Tuckers Island (the original lighthouse and island have largely ceased to currently exist due to erosion).

    Book description:
"In the present sense, America is engulfed in a serious political divide. Tensions are high, and it appears that divisive political issues have become commonplace in every aspect of ordinary life. During a nearly unprecedented time of polarization, logic and reason must prevail over emotion. The first steps at addressing these divisions require a candid discussion about the problems the nation faces and to identify the cultural origins of these issues. This work, the first by a young writer, historian, and educator from New Jersey, attempts to frankly discuss reasons for the cultural decline that has been experienced in the United States over several decades and propose possible solutions to this decline. In this political and social commentary, Laik Green engages in a robust and bold discussion, presenting the foundational principles of American culture, the national founding, and connecting the past to the present. This work, an opinion-based narrative heavily supported by data and historical research, attempts to frankly discuss the serious decline in American culture and community life that the nation has experienced since the 1960s, in a broad, open fashion. This work is offered in the hopes that the reader, with an open mind, may better understand the individual citizens role as part of the collective body of citizenry in the community, state, and nation, and to work towards the creation of a national cultural restoration that is so desperately needed in America today."
